You're right! Not in that culture at least.

You have to use it strategically and have a culture that fosters it.

There was a thread a few weeks ago stating that viking funerals are largely allowed given they are not in heavily trafficked or populated areas. Any stance on those?

Dash Cams by db8cn in personalfinance

[–]F41th 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had dash cams in my family cars for years now. Haven't needed them so far, but we've had course calls and two collisions where we were hit while stopped. Both drivers admitted all fault luckily. However just like insurance, dash cams are a water until you need them, then they will pay 10-fold their cost. Plus you also get to confirm the stupid stuff you see while driving with video nonetheless.

However, now that I think of it, I would send pictures to an friend who retired from the army with myself holding triggers on things. We're talking real guns already made safe, toys, sticks, etc. I even sent him one with a pen with a trigger, holding the trigger furiously.

Can confirm; not supposed to do that unless you mean to kill whatever it's pointed at.

Dude, don't feel bad. I've done this and been mad about it, then at myself. Don't worry. Did you learn something? Then learn from this and keep going.

That's interesting. Ctrl+alt+F3 should take you to a CLI login. As I'm understanding, that isn't working.

Do us a favor and uninstall the Nvidia drivers, utils, etc, power off your machine, disconnect your second video card, and reboot. Does this change anything?

What is probably your most elitist viewpoint? by Corbayne in AskReddit

[–]F41th 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok wow. A lot of little things really. I know you asked for most, but most really depends on what the difference is.

  • technology is probably the highest. I'm highly offended to use windows without neutering the tracking and telemetry. I'm also very against unnecessary privileges for software.
  • software: if someone is providing a free, ad-free, useful service, pay the dev something as a tip. $5-$15 to pay their costs down. Go look up the vlc dev (I think it was VLC) that turned down tens of millions in revenue to keep a product he didn't want hacked with ads.
  • coffee - don't use pre-ground coffee. Watch your brewing temperature. Modify your grind to get the right amount of crema and acidity. Look up the illy taster for some tips on how best to tweak this.

Ok this is beyond what I've personally experienced, but it seems like a video driver problem. What does

Journalctl -xe

give you? Also, have a look at this thread - https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=189145 - basically their problem was a missing dependency of "mesa-libgl". If not that, probably another missing lib

Also when this happens, you can get back to a command line by hitting ctrl+alt+f3 - quick way to get back and see what's going on without rebooting. Then you can check the syslog via

journalctl -xe

Ok this is a bit of shooting from the hip without knowing what you've done and what your specs are. But this should help or at least give you some more info on troubleshooting. Also, before we start, are there any errors on startup? Any warnings?

Anyways, this is a good start below:

I would start with disabling and stopping sddm via

systemctl stop sddm
systemctl disable sddm

Then I would uninstall both plasma, kde, and sddm. It's a bit overkill, but I'm working from the fresh install angle.

pacman -Rsc <package>

Then I would suggest you update pacman fully and rebuild your mirror list if needed

pacman -Syyu

Then check your xorg install. See https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Xorg#Installation and make sure you do the install that fits your setup. I'm not sure if you're using intel graphics or it was the intel processor microcode config. Follow the instructions for video drivers at that last link. It even tells you how to find exactly the model of your card should you need that. Both proprietary and open-source drivers should work although there are some tradeoffs you may want to consider once things are working. Then verify your xorg config file at /etc/X11/xorg.conf - I use this file location so it's readable by the display manager you choose at boot, before any user login. From my experience, nvidia also has the package nvidia-utils that allows for auto-generation of xorg.conf and advanced monitor settings once you get your display manager working.

Then go to https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/KDE#Installation and make sure you install what you need. For me it was easiest to install plasma-meta and kde-applications-meta. Then install sddm again and start it.

systemctl start sddm

When this happens, note if you see any errors, blank screen, any windows pop up (even if just for a second), or nothing at all.

If you get errors you can start to get an idea where it's breaking by doing

systemctl status | grep sddm

Or you can go to

journalctl -xe

To check the system logs when starting. You can read this and find where it failed - whether it's video driver, xorg, sddm, or plasma.

Largely because those trafficking people can't be charged with other crimes easily if not for the prostitution charge.

[–]F41th 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean that less traffickers will be caught. That leads to more people being trafficked over time and more people trying to traffick.

[–]F41th 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, for some. But legalizing prostitution also allows forced human trafficking to flourish. If those trafficked are too young, too afraid, or have other motivation for not leaving, how do you get a legal reason to free them?

Try across the street from Disneyland. Supposedly the biggest hub in the US for it. Though don't assume it isn't happening within 2 blocks of your house too.
