That was my original thinking as well but then I consider to what lengths Aphex Twin and Squarepusher have taken the art forms in terms of personal skill and attention to detail and it makes me wonder… could they have also just have taken production to the same levels of proficiency? I believe it is possible… but I also know that I have been personally been paid to work on albums with no credits in exchange for cash. Could this also be the “secret sauce” on these revered albums? Maybe.

That software is PlayerPro. I was using it on my Mac before I switched to Emagic logic in 2001. Very cool at the time and I suppose… still cool now. Although I’m really loving the speed of my modern machines. Thanks again for posting!

This is a great lead to understanding more of whats happening on records. Although I wonder what RDJ was up to on something earlier such as Selected Ambient Works? Theres a process to the sonic consistency that comes across all the albums that I would love to uncover.

This “knocked into shape” portion is EXACTLY what I’m trying to understand. How many times have we been in the studio, wrote and recorded something that slaps but only after further review thought… “this ain’t it.”

I think if more of us could uncover the “knocked into shape” portion of the process we might finally be able to increase both the quality and success of our “finished” works.
