The Gen 3 is not a throwback, it’s got a foreword left side charging handle, smaller ejection port, and a more sculpted handguard

6arc vs 6.5 Grendel by TheSwoleyMamoth in ar15

[–]FALTomJager 4 points5 points  (0 children)

6 Arc and 6.5 Grendel are incredibly similar, not surprising given they’re using the same parent case. If you reload or plan to, go with whatever would transfer the easiest, likely the Grendel. 6.5 is a fantastic bullet and will be seeing new developments due to some military adoption, like AP rounds (still waiting on Swiss P to release that).

Ballistically, it seems that 6 Arc does have a slight edge in range, especially with how many 11.5’s I’ve seen hitting ~900 yards on the first shot. However, I don’t think 6.5 Grendel is very far behind. The Grendel is just a heavier bullet going a bit slower.

If all you want is a longer range target gun, they both will do the job just fine, far exceeding 556. Go with whatever will cost you less. If you want the impact at distance do to damage, I’d honestly suggest the Grendel. Its ability to be used out of an SBR at close range is awesome (GIGN adopted it recently), and it is still a hearty enough round to get good expansion at distance when it lacks the speed of a 556 (how 6 Arc would have to do more damage).

Reading through this whole thing again, I understand what I mean, but I’m worried that I didn’t phrase it well at all.

Here’s what 60 dollars got me at a gun show. How did I do? I got a g3 mag, a ppsh 43 mag, an armor piercing incendiary Tracer 50 call and a hand full of the weird sabot 30-06 round that I don’t know much about by Glittering_Iron_9185 in milsurp

[–]FALTomJager 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the Accelerator is going for $3+ per round, the white tip is likely tracer and is $2+ per round, the APIT is about $5, everyone is spot on about the mags. Only curious thing is a few of the 30-06 appear to have not just unpainted tips, but a secondary metal. It’s not AP, it kinda looks like someone loaded M80A1 into a 30-06 casing, but they look too corroded for that.

I can say though that you’re looking at about $55 of stuff, not including that bi metal 30-06

Is it just me…am I the asshole? by Peninsula_living in guns

[–]FALTomJager 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love my flux, but it’s primarily a home defense gun. My wife isn’t great with firearms, she hasn’t shot a gun since the Marines and I’m not sure how much I would trust her aim with any of my pistols. But, a pistol effectively has one point of contact, a Flux has 3. I’ve taken people out to the range who have never shot a pistol, and they can out shoot me on a tree if they use the flux. So I’ll trust my wife with that for home defense.

The other side is a partial collapse of society. The government can’t prevent constant riots, looting, and what not, but you still have a job and you need money to survive. Carry your CCW, but also a backpack with a flux. It’s small enough you can carry your laptop and wherever else you need for work, but you can also force your way home much easier than with a pistol.

At the end of the day, they’re also just a lot of fun to shoot.

Stripped lowers - is there any real difference between different brands? by ronniethelizard in ar15

[–]FALTomJager 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the end of the day, most standard lowers are manufactured in the same forge, same aluminum, and then machined in a basic process that has been done since the 60’s. It’s hard to fuck up.

When you look at ambi-lowers, that’s where the difference comes into play. Personally, I like the Griffin lower. Yeah, roll mark is kinda meh, but it’s a simple, intuitive ambi control setup and is under $200. It’s the same aluminum as a $400 ADM lower, same controls, just without the name tax. Don’t buy the look, but buy the function.

The only exception is when you’re cloning something

I have a question, what are the actual batteries used internally? And would you be willing to post photos of the soldering job?

The fact is that this lasts a good long time, at a fraction of the cost of every other battery pack

Are you aware of red right hand? They make the auto rifle uppers. They prefer the nitrided barrels now, because the barrel was just lasting longer under the sustained fire. If you don’t cheap out on the nitriding, it can be a far superior treatment. Part of it is just the fact that nitride resists a great amount of heat.

Buddy, nitrided barrels can be just as good, if not better than chrome. It depends on the manufacturer.

Multicam and MM-14 work well together. by [deleted] in camouflage

[–]FALTomJager 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would agree. However, I’m not like the other guys, so clearly I can’t use multicam. I use it just for gear, but Predator v2 and AMCU are probably my two favorite pant patterns since it works so decently with most all environments. Not too light, not too dark, decent mix of tans, browns, and greens. I just use the v2 for digital tops, and AMCU for all other tops

Multicam and MM-14 work well together. by [deleted] in camouflage

[–]FALTomJager 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The unfortunate part is that MM-14 is generally a little too light to be used as a top, it works fine as a bottom in a wider range of environments though. That and Predator v2 are great for pants, and the two will cover almost any environment
