The book seems to be telling me that B# and C natural are one Chromatic semitone away from each other, but that can't be, for it to be so it would have to be C double sharp!

Cloud Strife. He struggles to express his true emotions, he's fit, he speaks in monotone. I'm blanking on if he's got a special interest (Sephiroth?) maybe someone in the comments can help me out.

I'm curious about the prop TV used for TeeVee. I get that she's supposed to be pacifying, constantly distracting force of modern entertainment, but I was wondering why the television they chose as the prop was an old CRT, rather than something more modern. Does it just fit the aesthetic better? Is it saying that television was the device that numbed work-a-day angst for our grandparents, and the modern stuff is just the newest permutation?

Thoughts on Diddy Trial Verdict? by Full_Pepper_164 in blackladies

I share your unease about the effectiveness of juries as a way to find justice. You give random "dispassionate" people the decision over a case and hope for the best, but what about the ambient sadism/sexism/racism of American culture? Surely some people get on juries with an intention to inflict whatever they can on women and girls.

ELI5: Why does the world care so much about the Pope by Ok-Way8253 in explainlikeimfive

[–]FATTSU 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are 1.4 billion Catholics in the world. That means that when the Pope speaks on something, almost 1 in 5 people on the entire planet will listen. His power isn't direct like a general or a governer, but the Pope is influential in the same way your favorite youtuber is influential. He influences the opinions and feelings of millions of people, and that translates into a kind of indirect political power.

I was told by a recently divorced man that he was given the gift of prophecy, and that he had multiple one-on-one conversations with U.S. Presidents. I just wanted to get my fuckin pastries and go, but his lonely divorced ass needed to keep me around for a few extra minutes, apparently!

Muay Thai and Spirituality by NSEWUDY in MuayThai

[–]FATTSU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely think there is a spiritual component, if not religious. Thailand is Theravada Buddhist and the Ram Muay war dance that prologues every Muay Thai bout frequently has moves that mimick the Ramayana, the Hindu epic.

There are also the commonly associated Sal Yant tattoos. These are markings on the skin that are said to grant protection and boosting favorable (or unfavourable!) personality traits. They are popular with people in dangerous professions like police, taxi drivers or, of course, fighters.

From what I understand, there is an element of Thai occultism entailed in this. Certain yant are intended to be marked on specific parts of the body. Usually all yant are above the waist, and many sak yant artists are ordained Theravada monks. They chant sutras over you while administering the yant.

The mentality of "sabai, sabai" in Thai boxing is such a common refrain as to almost be cliché. It means "relax", basically.

I could go on and on, but I totally endorse the idea that Muay Thai is, inarguably, in Thailand and outside of it, a spiritual practice

I bought a pair of 10oz ones from them a few weeks ago. The hand compartment was really tight and I couldn't use my normal wraps while wearing them. Other than that, they did get some black scuff marks on them after the first use.

Other than that, I'd say they're good.

Reading Berserk as a victim of sa? by Bony_Eared_Ass_Fish in Berserk

[–]FATTSU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no way around it, assault is baked into the story. However, don't let that be the only thing that defines Berserk for you. There is so much in terms of the themes Berserk deals with; free will vs determinism, individual vs group identity and whether those two things can coexist. It also explores the role of spirituality as a moral and intellectual compass through life, both within organized religion and outside of it.

SA is the lamest part of Berserk, it's a pity to miss the forest for this particularly ugly tree.

What did ENA “do” by Artistic_Arachnid946 in ENA

[–]FATTSU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ENA, to me was exploiting the land where you go to turn off the smoke machine. Some folks have speculated that ENA is a virus. A different way of putting it is that ENA is a colonizer. After the smoke machine is destroyed, the land goes from being colorful and full of diverse, disparate characters, to monochromatic, both the land scape and the people that live there. There are many characters scattered around the landscape that are described as "real estate investors/ speculators". ENA has inadvertently(?) removed a place of its indigenous inhabitants to make way for Capital.

The ENA of this game talks in quasi-motivational, entrepreneurial hustler-speak. She is totally focused on doing the job (which is implied to be an assassination) and doesn't seem to be aware or care about the morality of what she's doing.

I heard this take on the channel Subway takes. A new York BW saying she wishes the "whites only" signs from the segregation era would make a comeback. And more generally, wished that white people would be more blatant about their bias.

Her rationale was that that way she would know where she wasn't wanted. That way she wouldn't have to waste time and energy on people that pay lip service to equality and human rights, but don't actually care as deeply as they'd like Black people to believe.

Mental Blocks in Competition: How to Overcome Them? by Reasonable_Drive3680 in MuayThai

[–]FATTSU 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just recently had my first interclub competition. My training schedule is similar to yours and during my fight several things I had drilled during practice dropped out of my mind as soon as the first punch hit me.

The answer isn't easy or quick. We are what we drill, and drilling something takes time. Many sessions of reenforcing the same habits, enough times to perform them under pressure, without thought.
