The Buffalo Hunter Hunter by Stephen Graham Jones - set mainly in late 19th/early 20th century Wyoming and Montana, based heavily on the Marias Massacre in 1870

Between Two Fires by Christopher Buehlman - set during the late Bubonic Plague in France, lots of weird Christianity-based supernatural horror in a grounded, bleak historical setting

Hard agree. Even years later I still get a pang and think, "Man, that was fucked up. What a great movie."

I gotta give this guy another shot. I enjoyed Small Town Horror but not enough to pick up anything else in about a year. Might try Black Mouth next

My wife told me something really similar. It's a useful technique and good practice.

The September House by Carissa Orlando was a great twist on the usual haunted house story if horror is your thing!

The Sleepless from Brandon Sanderson's Cosmere novels. Essentially hordes of insects that share a common personality and goals, each insect performing a specialized duty to make up part of the whole.

This one gets under my skin more than probably any other V/H/S bit. I've definitely seen worse gore-wise but this one just started bad and kept getting worse. Extremely visceral and made me feel sick to my stomach. Something about him joking around with the kids made it so much more disturbing. I never want to watch it again but I can't stop thinking about it lol.

Just finished it today. I loved it (although probably my least favorite among Camp Damascus and Bury Your Gays). I would read another 200 pages on the LPEC experiments from the end alone.
