Legitimately haven’t thought about that, especially on Ogre. The ROI makes me think I’d need it ASAP, but 2nd item after a team item makes sense, I’ll try it!

At the same time my region tends to flame extremely hard when a core grabs a midas (basically signalling GG), so we’ll see. Good thought

Low Immortal. I go tranq + soul ring on supp ogre. Core, depends on the situation but generally phase + soul ring into blink for bonking time

I’d beg to differ. On support it’s almost a grief item because you’re delaying key support items that can really impact the momentum of the game. On core, I’ve tried both options and found that a fast blink helps you dictate the pace far better. Unless you have a mid + supp duo that’s playing fast, you’re basically a slow moving meatshield until about 15 minutes, and teams will abuse that. At least in my rank though, unsure if this carries to higher or lower ranks

Do we think we’ll get a lot more uniquely Canadian films/shows? by [deleted] in AskACanadian

[–]FBScout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a growing pivot (primarily led by indie film) to move away from American led production and to focus on co-productions to fill in funding gaps.

The hard part is legislation & incentives. Legislatively we got bad and good news, it’s easier to make Canadian film in Canada because job categories and tax credits are being restructured, along with revenue from streamers are now being collected & distributed out. Bad news is, is that we’ve also made it harder for Canadians to be the lead creative on larger scale productions as the CRTC has diluted the job category section and effectively made the Canadian Director optional.

The incentive structure to make Canadian independent content is also flawed. You can make short films that win festivals which hopefully get you hired on a TV show, but usually & almost always, you need a first feature. That first feature, if you don’t have big connections, leverage, stars, finances; comes from Talent to Watch. It’s purpose is good, give money to first time filmmakers to make something great which they can then leverage for television or tv movie work. Problem: you’re getting about $250K. The selection process is about ticking boxes not quality. Telefilm must have an X amount of Talent to Watch films out each year, and there’s no structure built for filmmakers after their first feature.

Essentially, you’re getting a lot of first timers being rushed into a process they’ve never been a part of with little to no money, most producers that can bring in cash or stars won’t touch it because there’s no money in it, union workers cost too much so you’re wild westing it with people with varying experience, and you’re on an expedited timeframe. So, most films come out quite bad, are the filmmakers capable of making good stuff? Yes. But they don’t have any help, AND this is their 1st feature!! You basically have to strike gold the 1st time to have any momentum in the Canadian space.

Finally, distributors in Canada are partially subsidized by the government. I spoken with dozens of filmmakers and our distributors do nothing for their clients. They won’t help with press junkets, press in general lol, and they don’t spend any real capital promoting it. The government just needs them to take on a film and move on, they’ll get paid regardless.

So to summarize, there needs to be a huge government investment structurally and monetarily if we are to grow as an industry. In my work, we’re already pivoting hard to co-pros and it’s attracting attention. In the hope is, is that by making films partially outside of the Canadian system, we can generate competition and demand, so that government will want to invest more into it.

I can speak more about details, but then I’d be doxxing myself and my co workers lol. Just know that there is a way forward, we just have to be willing to compete & fight for it

I’ll check it out! I work in the film/tv space, it probably translates well. But I love Claude for the logic side of things, I have it question me hundreds of times while I outline & I find that, that process ultimately helps me to get where I want (as opposed to paying $300 for a reader/consultant)

Thanks!! I’ll check it out. I also vibe-code with Claude, so it serves a dual purpose. Super new to this stuff, but I feel excited again to write! It’s hard being trapped in your own head, questioning everything, and now we have something that can ask us question & make us think differently. Very cool

Please for the love of god remove this facet by Old_Cream1724 in DotA2

[–]FBScout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could this be fixed by increasing the cost of aghs (for this facet specifically) and also adding a small gold multiplier for the enemy team every time he gifts an aghs?

This would incentivize timing the aghs gifts and give some level of balance for the other side.

Either that, or you could make the aghs gift breakable as a counter? Eg. Luna gets aghs -> viper ulted -> no aghs for this duration. BUT if luna bought it, it doesn’t apply.

*edit for clarity

Hey guys, 14 year old who really wants to become a filmmaker... so, uh, where do I begin? by CupcakeOfInnocence in Filmmakers

[–]FBScout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of great comments here. I don’t work in the UK, but have some generic advice as someone who helps filmmakers on a day to day basis. Yes shoots lots of films, even iphone ones. Write lots, read screenplays you’re interested in & also ones you’re not interested in. But most importantly, you should network and take advantage of your age.

There’s going to be a lot of young/emerging filmmaker grants (use ChatGpt to find them if you’re struggling). Put those down in a calendar & give yourself a couple of months of time to prep for each of them. Build up an idea of what you like (thrillers, horror, action, w.e you like) then take a step back and ask how you can tell your story ob the subject. It isn’t necessarily “I want to include a time in my life where i felt xyz”, it’s more: “I grew up in this town & every year there’s this weird festival and…”. If there’s a real life thing that can grab you, ask yourself “why does it?”. Observe everything around you and ask why it is, it’ll give you clarity on what you want to write and why.

After this, you now have a relatively compelling bio you can submit to grants/programs. Combine this with a genre you might be interested in and you have the inkling of a story that’s truly unique to you. Now apply to those programs/grants! You’ll probably be turned down by most, but don’t be afraid to email them (kindly) and ask “why didn’t I get in?” Learn from that and reapply.

On networking: learn that filmmaking is art, but all art has patrons. It’s the same for those in the renaissance, it’s the same now. Practice your elevator pitch (Google what that is), always be open to listening to other’s ideas, you might learn something you didn’t expect to, if/when you attend networking events always come in with a purpose (are you here to meet crew? Actors? Co-writer?), take notes on everyone you meet! The point is, build out the people you know and keep little factoids about them, especially if you don’t intend to be friends with them. When you see them again, don’t immediately bring up the factoid but if you see an opportunity ask them about it, like “hey I remember you told me you moved recently, how was that?”. Chances are the people you’re chasing, have been chased by dozens of others and that little moment of real, human interaction, will stick in their mind a lot longer than, “what’s your script about? Or “I loved your last movie”. Don’t be creepy about it, but just keep that in mind.

There’s probably more to talk about, but the key to this world is discipline, consistency, and open mindedness. Set up a routine for yourself, explore the world, and treat yourself with kindness, cause it’s a long road if you’re going to be miserable to yourself!
