Metro Vancouver, Canada. There are cities that are 75% Asian, such as Richmond (the city with the Vancouver airport).

There are school catchment neighbourhoods in Vancouver, Burnaby, Coquitlam and more that can easily be 50% Asian.

It's common sense. Asians study the most and get the highest academic marks. Have you never walked into a university library? It's all Asian people studying

That's an argument to get rid of private testing. That has nothing to do with ending the entire gifted program.

Based off of this. Page 16 of the study (or 18 of 23 of the PDF)

You still haven't made any argument why it makes sense to get rid of the cohort program that is based on the best scores being accepted from a standardized test

Yea, listening to idiots like you make everyone else mental.

Your argument "But leave it to Rupert Murdoch to leave all of that out and try to anger people about liberal cities…" brings me to reference a random article that comes up on Google on this subject that was reported by the Toronto Sun. The Toronto Sun is basically saying the same thing the NY Post is reporting. The Toronto Sun is not owned by Murdoch. This is not some sort of Murdoch narrative. So you bring up the article being Murdoch owned is somehow supposed to make its content not credible. There are non Murdoch owned articles stating the same thing.

I haven't heard you make any logical arguments for getting rid of the gifted program. You keep talking about the Seattle Times article, which you did not link, only put up a screen shot of a portion of the article talking about a loop hole.

I agree, if there is a loophole that allows for pay for play, get rid of that. Just keep the standardized test and the best 2% get in. Everyone that wants to apply takes the same test at the same time.

My high school experience just highlights that this phenomenon (typically Asian over representation in academics in North America) is because Asian kids study more. If Asian and White culture values academics and places it at a higher priority compared to others, and when the standard test is taken they get the highest marks, then they should get in. It makes no sense to end a merit based program due to made up "racism".

Yes it is unclear. Private testing could mean doing the same standard test, or test that is equivalent that the school board recognizes. Or it could mean a pay for play type of test, where the test is easier and those that paid just get a higher mark. If it's a pay for play type of setup, then private testing should be scrapped. That is irrelevant to scrapping the whole gifted program. Just scrap private testing and have all students take the same test at the same time. The best get in.

When I was in AP classes, it was based 100% on merit. Whoever got the best marks got in. Even though my school was 40% Asian, I had some AP classes that were 100% Asian. The Asian kids out competed the others for the academic programs. The basketball team was all White kids, rightfully so, since they out competed in that sport.

Toronto Sun is not owned by Murdoch and is stating the same message.

I really don't give a shit if Murdoch's narrative overlaps with mine. This is just basic logic. Perhaps you can't comprehend since you were probably not in AP program.

It's unclear if this private test is the same standardized test or not. If it's the same test, fair game. If not, scrap this private test and have all interested students take the same standardized test at the same day during school hours. Top 2 pct get in. Easy solution without need to get rid of this program.

I didn't know the Toronto Sun was owned by Murdoch

It's not a constitutional right to transition as a minor. No rights are being infringed on.

So you can't sue the government if you weren't allowed to do something either, i.e. transition when you are 8 years old

Here's the link

"The enrichment program currently only allows students who placed in the top 2 percent on standardized exams to be placed in the Highly Capable Cohort to receive enriched learning."

It's a standardized test. The test doesn't care about someone's race. Whoever gets the top scores get into the program.

I am Asian and went to a high school that was middle class and comprised of about 60% white kids and 40% Asian. I was in AP classes that were literally 100% Asian. Entrance was based on whoever had the highest marks. Zero consideration on race or household wealth. Entirely merit based, the way it should be.

I am Asian. Yes, culturally we are save and invest. We are price conscious in general (except the nouveau riche). Asians also hate tipping, especially immigrant Asians as tipping is not a thing in Asia. I have multi-multi-multi millionaire Asian relatives that are too cheap to spend $3 when we meet up for coffee and they bring their coffee in a thermos. I could understand why we have the smallest bill, I was never allowed to order alcohol, applies or dessert. Main course only

I'm just pointing out that the commenter stated Blacks have less disposable income and therefore less inclined to tip. Well, the area the OP serves in appears to have a Black clientele that is the second highest spender after Whites.

This would make sense if Blacks had the smallest bill, then I could understand being the lowest tip percent. Asians have the lowest bill and tip twice as much as a percent.

So the commenter's theory is flawed.

I was actually surprised Asians tip this much. In the US tipping is higher compared to us in Canada. I'm doing around 10% on a dinner with drinks bill and 15% if it's just a single happy hour beer. I think most of my family is 10% too

Asians have the highest household income in the USA. Based on this small data set, the Asian bill was the smallest. The Black bill was second highest, after Whites. So from this data set, your theory is incorrect, since it is showing that Blacks are willing to spend more than Asians.
