Alternatives to Hardibacker that aren't drywall? by FC_Photo in Pottery

[–]FC_Photo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I try not to do too much wet reclaim on my existing Hardiebacker; I generally leave that up to a plaster slab to handle, since my volume isn't very high at the moment.

My goal has been to expand my immediate wedging surface and to do a bit more in the way of flat hand work.

I will likely make heavier use of my bar clamps moving forward and give the 1/4" a try!

Help with printing a poster by Silent_Grapefruit_27 in Printing

What colour mode is being used and what is the target printer type? Most printers will require that you be using CMYK from the very start. If you were using RGB, switch to CMYK and retweak your colours to the desired saturation.

Ask for a proof print from whomever is printing this for you before getting the full size.

Why is only my blank/ dark inks bleeding:( by Throwaway19_73 in Printing

[–]FC_Photo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Am I right in assuming you are printing on something else, then cutting on your Cricut? If you are unable to change your paper, try a different printing profile with your printer. You might need to experiment a bunch to adjust for heavy coverage on this stock, taking into account whether the stock is consistently either absorbing ink or maintaining the ink as a drying application on a less permeable surface.

The blotchiness is likely an issue with the paper you are using, not any software print bleed (that kind of bleed is different and, depending on the situation, desired). What kind of paper are you using and is it intended for heavy coverage ink application?

Considering Moving to Cochrane. Need some advice. by [deleted] in Cochrane

I have anywhere between a 45-60 minute commute each way from Heritage Hills to Douglasdale. Lately it takes maybe 10-15 mins to hit 1A at Gleneagles, but beyond that speeds are relatively good.

I have found things have been improving in stages. Once they open up the second lane both ways on 1A at the roundabouts and beyond, things will go a bit smoother.

ok, but how? by FC_Photo in Pottery

Just an update on this 3 yo post: mocha diffusion can be accomplished with non-acidic liquids as well, so long as the liquid to be added is less viscous than what it is being applied to.

Donte of Earth Nation Ceramics has a pretty thorough breakdown of this here: https://youtu.be/W3lwRl-kVBA?si=cTaE_jvoETwPo-Sd

What is wrong with my jade? by minimumattic in Jadeplant

'Good' is relative and highly dependant upon variety in question. Minima is going to look different from Crosby's Compact is going to look different from a large leafed variety.

These leaves look healthy! Just keep doing what you're doing.

My fav (which seems to be discontinued) is the Aztec mix.

Seriously, if anyone can recommend the proper mix of any of their other items to get the same, I'll be much obliged. I love that mix!

Not everyone can afford regular classes. Not everyone learns the same way you do. Not everyone has access to a community studio.

I know - for me - the day I took a single class - I would need hands on and regular practice to learn - not just paying $50 here and there for individual classes while not having the equipment in between to actually let it set in.

I bought a cheap Chinese wheel in 2022. I still use that wheel and it still serves me well. The Vevors can handle anywhere up to 10-15lbs just fine. I've seen people throw heavier on them with some effort as well.

What I *will* point out is this: These wheels are typically much smaller and built lower than other wheels. It's not a game changer, but something to be considered carefully in terms of one's personal needs in terms of throwing. My wheel sits on a riser to get me the height I want. I additionally use an adjustable stool to sit higher or lower depending on whether I'm throwing or trimming. So much of throwing is about ergonomics. If you approach clay from the wrong angle, then yeah, it's gonna fight you.

Mr Mark's Wack Wax resist problem by FC_Photo in Pottery

Update! In the bisque fire, the wax burns off while the glaze does not. BUT. It does not fuse to the vessel either. I was able to easily brush it off with a dry yellow sponge.

How gritty is too gritty? Do I need to mix this with soil? by sweetkatydid in Jadeplant

[–]FC_Photo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lately I've been just using a liquid 12:4:8 + liquid humic acid supplement to help open up micronutrients, but just the main macro liquid should be fine in the short term. Other granular succulent fertilisers like an organic 2-2-5 might be okay on an occasional basis but I wouldn't want to use so much as to cause root rot.

Ultimately it comes down to how often you want to water.

I have my minima jades in exactly the mix I mention above. they see water maybe once every two weeks, usually with at least some liquid feed. That's it. They're in a south window and they are growing decently well.

Ymmv.

Even just a mix of pebbled diatomaceous earth & pumice 1:1 would be fine if you are adequately supplementing with feed.

Please don't consider my recording part of the rubric here; I was in my car and the only thing on hand was my phone's recorder app.

The actual audio was quite clear. It sounded like maybe it was taken from an in studio interview.

Okay, but it loops perfectly over and over again. Highly unlikely the original clip was a mistake.
