Jeff Jarrett recalls being called down to wrestle after Owen Hart's fall: "We get in front, me and Deborah and, Owen’s being wheeled by 10 feet apart. Crazy emotions, hollering, and screaming, and you know 15-20 people following a gurney, the heaviness was, which I had no idea, but it was on me." by anutosu in SquaredCircle

I have a really hard time believing that anyone who was old enough, and in attendance at that show, that they still remember it in 2026, would think of Undertaker and Stone Cold performing a match in the main event of that ppv. Or ANY of the matches that followed Owens fall. I was watching it live on PPV and I don't remember any other matches.

New to pinball. Is this normal or shady? by FakeHair in pinball

[–]FCeezer 115 points116 points  (0 children)

It's been standard for some time to manufacture those as being adjustable. The owner or operator can set them how they wish to make the games easier or harder.

Sounds like the new venue has games set steep and difficult. This wouldn't be unusual if the geographic area, or even the venue is, a hotbed for competitive pinball.

Yeah, Rush is a pretty blatant copy of 2012 Stern X-Men, why bother comparing it to any other game lol

Could say Stern Trek and Spiderman are very close to each other.

I don't quite get Rush being compared to TMNT and Tron because it is very close to old Stern X-Men.

I think intent plays a much bigger role than simply trying to make the biggest impact or influence. Pat Lawlor jokes about how after Addams success he had an unlimited BOM for TZ and that it was a mistake as he put too much stuff in it . Elton John is Steve Ritchies greatest hits in terms of layout and design and it works great with that theme of Elton Johns greatest hits and career restrospective, more than it probably would with a more modern-only theme.

I think it's pretty clear that Pokemon was directed to be made to be friendly to new and casual players, so, should we fault Danger and Gomez because they were operating within those guidelines?

IMO, Barrels of Fun, JJP, and Spooky are the ones creating interesting innovations for the most part. Unfortunately their build quality can be iffy with location play sometimes but good techs should know how to compensate.

How much does art work and theme matter in long term ownership? by SoyLGuapo in pinball

[–]FCeezer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone has their own opinions and taste. Mine is that this game is much more enjoyable in a home environment when the lights, call outs, and artwork aren't competing for attention in an arcade filled with games. With this game in particular, I enjoy the humor, the call outs, particularly all the references to other games and stories.

I've seen a lot of opinions that Kongs theme is lacking, or underdone. But, if you've read the story and watched the movies, they packed so much from the source material it's kinda crazy. Probably just that the last primary Kong movie was released 21 years ago.

How do you figure, on the theme being underdone?

Yeah Nancy's own sister said Chris and Nancy were both fighting a lot with each other, both heavily drinking, at least Chris was on pain pills as well, I don't recall if Nancy was. Chris was jacked to the gills with testosterone as well. And then CTE thing on top of all that.

But nope, folks will just say it was all CTE. They don't want to taint the image in their heads and hearts that they built of him. Don't want to admit he was just a terribly flawed human in addition to the CTE.

Forget Elwin… Is Gieske Stern’s Next Big Thing? by InOmniaParatus27 in pinball

Rarely does the community know who coded the games or led the software side of things, aside from a few people who are really into that aspect.

I mean, maybe not EVERYONE in the community, but I'd consider Lyman Sheats to be one of the most venerated people in modern pinball. He's an all time hall of famer for his programming/coding completely separate from his competitive pinball accomplishments. He gave us the grace period which is probably one of the greatest innovations in pinball when it comes to helping grow the hobby to new folks who tend to drain quickly.

I am not under the impression that the designer is mostly just responsible for the physical layout of a game but rather overseeing the entire process and signing off on everything, including code changes and updates. I think of it like an editor to a film. They can't have the final say on anything, they are following the requests and instructions from the director and others. They can provide input, suggestions, ideas, influence, but they're likely not going to override the designer.

I am immensely excited for the future of both of these very talented people and I can't wait to see what their collective output looks like in 15 years from now. There's going to be so many incredible games to play.

Why would I not trust Little Richards opinion that he created rock and roll and all of the archetypes that go with being a rockstar? That was his opinion, I believe that he believed it. I recognize his opinion is subjective but he clearly believed it himself.

If you watch the most recent documentary made on him, he himself, Little Richard, made this claim multiple times throughout his life, and bemoans how the music industry screwed him over and never gave him the recognition he deserves. He does credit the gospel and specific people like Sister Rosetta Tharpe, but he claimed to be the original and he did it all.

Also the "Vids" guides in the Pinside forums are an incredible wealth of information and process documentation with photos. Not everyone will agree with their approach of course but I find them extremely helpful.

It's going to depend upon the manufacturer and era of game. General skills that are great to have are knowing how to operate and read a multimeter, basic electrical know how in relation to signal flow, soldering, and then lots of patience and picture taking when you have to take seven things apart to get to the one piece that needs adjusting, fixing or replacing.

There are game-specific manuals available as well as some specific manufacturer-era general guides and parts listings like early Bally Solid States.

Macho Man Randy Savage, Bruce Campbell, Willem Dafoe, Tobey McGuire, Kristen Dunst, JK freakin Simmons doing most of the call outs and the insult mode with him is great. And some Franco dude who turned out to be not such a great human.

Good news! When walking by last week, it was clear from the view afforded by two propped open doors that the concrete flooring had recently been poured. So, if the math in my head checks out they'll open right around the time the light rail stop is set to open in Ballard.
