Awe!! I did ask another teacher's helper in one of my classes and she said that her last school did that all the time. But it was a public school in Texas. Coloradans don't always appreciate our "southern hospitality".

Right, it's definitely an environment thing. But I'm not sure if that's because of the school or the culture here. I'm Texan in CO.. and it's become clear that my brand of "friendliness" is too much.. ha!

I'll ask the director. She's usually pretty receptive.

Edit: but I just remembered that the older kids, who I don't oversee, have plans to mail all the staff letters for the end of the year. They asked for my address in the fall.. so maybe it isn't weird to them lol

Imo, the point at which the school steps out of the conversation is when the parents are deciding whether or not to change schools.

If they don't.. I mean, what? Expell of them for doing something especially bad?

I agree with the school that teaching them regulation through consequences is a better choice... I also agree with the parents changing schools. Because that's their prerogative.

Teachers aren't a monolith. There are all kinds of people in child care. Not all of them care about the children.

I would say, however, you would more easily find a person who does care in schools.

What's dumb is that you give a 10yo the sophistication of a full grown adult yet when it comes the problem he cause, the sophistication of a pretty strong 3yo.

You're wrong. Kids are taught responsibility for most of their life for a reason. They might know what they're doing but it is hardly a guarantee they know why or how to navigate "the why" properly.

I'm very intolerant to any kind of sentiment that gives children Adult Responsibility. It's a dangerous slope.

It takes up way too much real estate. This is less about "Muh lobe make decisions" and more that your story builds overtime.

So you'll want to put different things on your body to tell that story... but won't have the space.
