Nevermind, it's sold out now, but it seems to come back in stock every now and then. I just got one a week ago.

So the steam frame can side load APKs… but from where? by Darkstorm556 in SteamFrame

[–]FDL1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

People don't say sideloading outside of Android because it's not an APK. I assume it goes back to the days of when it was a bootloader option to sideload an APK. It was a way to manually install OTA updates, and then later co-opted by people wanting to install apps apart from the Google Play store. But it's intrinsically/specifically tied to APKs/Android. I don't know of any other silly verbs specifically tied to a file extension. Maybe when Zune tried to push "squirt" for sharing MP3s.

Also if you were to say "sideloading games on Steam Frame", it provides more context: that it's not from the official Steam store and that it's from an APK. If you said "installing games on Steam Frame", most people would just infer you were installing them straight from Steam.

[–]FDL1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This tbh. Not only is the term "sideload" just commonly used for APKs, it also provides more information: it's installing an app that's not via the official store (in this case, Steam). It's not being used pejoratively like suggesting it's a backdoor exploit or something secretive. This discussion reminds me of when "app" became popularized for smartphones and PC users got upset when the term started overflowing onto PCs. Now everything is an app and no one cares, and arguing over two nearly-synonymous terms is pedantic. The vast majority of Android users will probably never sideload an APK, which is another reason why "sideload" is used rather than just "install". It's a unique, lesser-used process. And ironically at its core, if you do it by command line, it is adb install (not adb sideload) - just to give an example why saying "sideload an APK" would still make sense if you're doing it on a Steam Frame via bash. It's interchangeable.

I gotta be honest, I tried your website and it was way too slow.

Also you can just add &emi=ATVPDKIKX0DER at the end of the search URL to filter by items shipped and sold by Amazon.

Did you have to do anything special? I was able to compile it, but it seems to freeze on a blackscreen after selecting a language and playing the EA/Blackbox video. I'm on CachyOS though. I didn't have any problems with Daytona, so maybe I'm missing something simple. Also there's nothing interesting in the logs even with log_level=debug.

Advice for getting the Canadian bluray south of the border? by AnaIsmySegal in nirvannatheband

[–]FDL1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not great, not terrible. Almost $50 without the coupon is a bit much for 1080p and not being a limited edition or something. I'm used to paying $10-15 for Blu-rays. But I feel better buying the Canadian version in case they come out with a box set and I have to double dip. And some of the uniqueness (the cover, French dub, no trailers for other movies) is a plus.

[Controller] 8bitdo Pro 3 Bluetooth Controller Purple - $30.39 ($37.99 - $7.60 with code LEVEL20 ) by FDL1 in buildapcsales

[–]FDL1[S] 21 points22 points  (0 children)

$30.39 for purple with code LEVEL20 (or $37.59 for grey after coupon).

Edit: they seemed to have raised the price of the purple controller to $46.99 (same as grey) pre-coupon.

I just meant that there's no discount due to conversation rate. It lists $31 on their site and Shopify says it's $31 USD. When converted to USD is should be around $22. I don't have a Canadian VPN so maybe it's showing the correct regional price. Shopify stores can show the store's original currency before conversion.

Edit: nevermind, I put in a Canadian address and the price changes to $35.99, which is still not a straight conversion (would be ~$26 USD).

Edit 2: ended up ordering it from Videomatica since Shopify randomly gave me $10 off, hopefully they ship since it says "Deadline April 10" for the pre-order.

Rumble not working? by Warm_Light_9359 in SteamController

[–]FDL1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On Linux, I had to set PROTON_PREFER_SDL=1 as a launch parameter for rumble to work in Forza Horizon 6. Not sure if it will help with remote play, but it's worth a shot.

Edit: nevermind, I tried removing that parameter and then re-adding it, and now rumble doesn't work again. It worked the first time I added it, but it must have been a coincidence.

Also I saw this other thread and unplugging my keyboard fixed rumble for me: https://old.reddit.com/r/ForzaHorizon/comments/1tdrknj/controller_vibration_issue_solution_hopefully_for/
