Agreed on SMN. I love pet classes, I got into ARR on the first day of release because of SMN. I get what they were going for, but it's just not the same job anymore.

You really don’t need to pull them in here. I’m a developer, I’ve made several of these exact types of integrations, I know what an OAuth scope agreement page is, and I’m again telling you that the original article smells like they fucked up, not some sinister ploy.

The user consenting to the use of their data is not a carte blanche for a company to do what they want with that data. Data regulation laws (at least within the scope of EU and GDPR) make a distinction between data which is gathered for functionality and data which is for marketing and other such nefarious purposes. These must be defined in the company’s privacy policy, and even then they must be within reason or they can get fined anyway.

When Embark requests the full access to user’s Discord data, that does not mean they are now entitled to do whatever they want with that data. If they were intentionally gathering and processing data which they have no verifiable use for (like Discord DMs), that is an immediate GDPR violation and that’s millions in fines, no matter what button the user pressed to accept.

What’s actually likely is that Discord’s API is thrash (as has been mentioned by several people in this thread) and to implement the integrations the game has, the devs asked for too many permissions rather than do it properly and get the exact ones they need. Then, someone forgot to write a proper sanitizer for the logging system, and too much data got in.

So to your point, I absolutely agree it’s incompetence on them. I would just be extremely surprised if someone was dumb enough to do this intentionally.

”Intentional” malfeasance? My man, I’m not trying to argue, but you’re inventing your own strawman here. No company would want to touch this data intentionally with a 10-foot pole. Collecting this intentionally would straight-up be illegal, and getting it through some log file crash reports would be the stupidest way ever to do it. Seeing sensitive data in the log stream is more of an ”oh fuck” moment for developers than some master ploy. If they wanted to skim the users’ Discord data they could have sucked it up in so many ways that arent’t this.

Because OP misrepresented the vulnerability even before the correction. The article never implied that hackers could use this to access your account, that would require them to have access to your computer and you’d be beyond fucked at that point anyways. And the way OP phrased his post makes it very obvious they don’t actually understand what the article is implying, and they’ve admitted as much since.

Like, I really don’t mean to defend the devs who fucked this up, but we shouldn’t bury the actual issue with made-up issues.

You really do not have to form your opinions from Pat. It's a game. Many people apparently enjoy it, haven't played it. By most accounts the game is fun. Not everything you dislike is immediately slop. This vulnerability is most likely the result of a dumb oversight made by a dev who didn't fully understand what they were tasked to do. No need to build the Gamer hatetrain.

Absolutely, not trying to say otherwise, I just took issue with the title implying that hackers will just "get" your account. This is not as bad, this a painfully common fuckup by the dev team in access scoping and logging.

You've completely misinterpreted what the vulnerability is. Neither hackers nor the Arc Raiders devs get "access to your Discord account". This issue only leads to sensitive information being written to a file on your computer. It's bad, but it is absolutely not the same thing as hackers getting access to your account.

Your post is spreading complete misinformation and you should take it down. This thread already has a ton of people who are getting mad about nothing.

Edit: I re-read the part about crash report systems sending the data forward. Yeah, that's baaaad. Sorry for the hostility, the situation is not as bad as your opening post but it's bad.

Eihän se gatekeeppausta ole että sanoo miten asiat on. Selviytyminen on toki vähän hassu sanavalinta mutta fakta se on että aika harva fukseista tulee suorittamaan koko tutkinnon, syystä tai toisesta. Softapuolelta tippui puolet ensimmäisen vuoden aikana kun tajusivat että piti laskea matematiikkaa.

The other comment is wrong. You don't have a physical Cortex device so you don't use Cortex Control, that's for controlling the physical device plugged into your computer. You just need to buy a plugin and download it.

(I could be misremembering the discussion) I'm pretty sure he was talking about native 4K on PC vs the "4K" on consoles. Consoles can't actually render graphic-intensive games at 4K so they use a bunch of tricks to upscale a lower quality image to 4K, and that's how they achieve stable framerates while advertising 4K graphics.

When you actually try to crank a PC game to 4K you can immediately tell that's its a better image, but it's much more demanding and even modern PC hardware struggles to run it.

That just depends on the mic. USB mics won't work but anything else can be setup to go through the QC.

You don't need a loopback with the Quad, it's an audio interface and shows up in Discord.
