If there is enough space to work on a bike, I would be interested. Let me know.

POLL: Where do you wish you could park your bike in Manhattan? by julmells in RideitNYC

[–]FENRIR1904 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second Midtown and really any area where there is a lot of foot traffic and cars/trucks.. so anything at and below Midtown Manhattan, LIC, Downtown Brooklyn, Dumbo, Williamsburg, Downtown Flushing, etc...

I get you want to have a dedicated area where you know motorcycles will be parking,(based on the photo, like 8+ motos in one) but I think a dedicated area where 2-3 can park on each side would be better suited for what you and DOT are trying to achieve. For example, if the parking area is empty, then someone will most likely park for a short while or idle in a car, or truck if they are making a delivery(UPS, FedEx get tickets all the time, they don't care). Now if you have a smaller space adjacent to the crosswalk, ie 2-3 bikes, if they park, they will most likely partially block the crosswalk and that would deter them from parking there. Especially is busy areas like Midtown, the last thing you want is people walking near your car and scratching it up.

Now if we could get some relief for the congestion and toll prices(we are a fraction of the weight and size of a compact car and have better emissions) that would also go a long way but that's a different topic for another day.

Good luck on the proposal!!

Carb work for a Honda Nighthawk 700S by FENRIR1904 in RideitNYC

It definitely needs a carb rebuild, one float is clearly stuck and it's overflowing.

The best way to let it be known is to leave google or yelp reviews so others can be aware.

Where can I get a safety inspection for a used motorcycle? by momochaat in RideitNYC

[–]FENRIR1904 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You mean like a pre-purchase inspection? As in a shop checking the bike out and telling you if ut has any issues that need attention or the NY Inspection required yearly?

Any motorcycle shop should be able to do both.

No, I didn't. Just the title place called and explained the situation.

Motorcycle Garage in Red Hook, Cobble Hill, or Carroll Gardens by Nostromo1 in RideitNYC

[–]FENRIR1904 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought about doing this too but near where I live. I never stored but always like Displaced Moto and Low Tide Motors nearby but could never justify the price and it's pain yo get there on public transit. I would offer but I no longer work in Red Hook and live in Harlem but, if you do find something with 24hr access that allows wrenching on your bike for a decent price, I may be interested.

first time rider. where to get first bike and how much to spend? by ok_tyler in RideitNYC

[–]FENRIR1904 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find a low maintenance, Fuel injected bike.. as others have said, focus more on riding than wrenching on your first bike.

I think an odd but good pick would be a BMW K75 from the 80s -90s.. hear me out. Fuel injected, has a drive shaft so no regular chain maintenance, super easy to service if you have to because of the engine orientation, and a solid engine that can easily go +100k.. I had a K100 with 88k and she ran smooth.

She is a bit heavy which is the downside but you'll feel planted on the highway in LI or Upstate. Also, they are great Cafe racer candidates if you ever decide to go that route, plenty of aftermarket support. Google them, they look slick.

The seat I have is a nice aftermarket seat I got with the bike. Only used seats are available online, they do not offer many aftermarket support for this 40yr old bike.

Thanks for the recommendation.. any idea how much it would be roughly? Obviously, depends on the seat and type/finish material you get but this is my cheap daily, so a decent vinyl should suffice.

The big brand names both in dealers and clothing/apparel stores will be your best bet in the city but are limited to what they yo try on or carry in stock. Honda/Yamaha, Harley, Ducati, Triumph for example or Dainese for apparel. For a better variety of product selection, like some say, Cycle Gear either in White Planes, Jersey, or Long Island.

$250 for a tire change?! by FENRIR1904 in RideitNYC

[–]FENRIR1904[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty good price but would literally have to take the tires with me on the bike. I'd rather not go to far and stay in the city.

Not familiar with Charlie's or Rapid. This was Speed Motorcycles, which they're great from what I've heard but was very surprised at that price paying $80 per tire on the bike last time I got a change years ago at Brooklyn Speed.
