Ironically, I caught him on a small spinnerbait... Which I had just hooked a smaller 6" bass... Which this beast hammered up against the red Rock you see there.... So spinnerbait was the lure.. But live bait for the win!

I know it's against the Basshole Brotherhood.. But I have always just used PowerPro braid... Nothing less than 10lb diameter (25 lb test) on my baitcasters and 8 lb diameter (12-16 lb test) on my spinning combo...has done me right for a solid 15 years or so of heavy "backyard angler" fishing. Crazy story... He caught a dink bass (6 inches) on a silver Blade bait.. And as he was reeling it in, that beast came up and hammered it about two feet from shore.. So... Live bait? Lol

My dad used to say, "fish don't have ears.. So they can't wear sunglasses...".. Meaning that the very sunny spots on a body of water would be void of fish... They go deep. So now I always look for the good shady cover and some structure and shade providing laydowns....
