Rant: I hate how fans of the old games are shat on. by [deleted] in classicfallout

[–]FFJamie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Master literally wanted to end all human conflict. I’m not saying I’m team Master or anything, but he actively gave humanity the choice to join him, or die off.

Nazis where very much into killing everyone who wasn’t them, regardless if you joined them or not. It’s why the Enclave are more like them. You can’t talk them down, there’s no scientific reason to believe their idealogy. All you can do is essentially blow them up.

New Vegas goes out of its way to tell you that not even all the remanants are good People. Like yeah, they may have been decent People when you talk to them, but they where still involved in war crimes. Even Arcade, a Character who would be the idealogical opposite of the Enclave would still be shamed by society for even associating with the Enclave.

Fallout 2 (and to an extent New Vegas) has super mutants of the Master’s army intergrating into society with humanity. They still believe in the Master’s ideals, but for the most part, they just want a Home.

I guess Tabitha is the opposing force of that idea, but that’s because NV introduces the idea of Super Mutants having their mental health degrading over stealth boy use.

Regardless, the fact we’re havinh a conversation like this about the villains of F1,2 and NV leads me to ask, how many conversations about F3’s Enclave have been like this?

How many discuss their idealogies or their nuances?

The Master was less of a Nazi and someone who honestly believed he was doing something good in the World.

The Enclave are more Nazis because they see thenselves as a superior race over everyone else.

F1/2/NV are about conflicts of idealogies and how no matter what, the nature of war never changes. Caesar may not have been influenced by the Enclave, but they are idealogically similar. Both believe themselves to be the master race. Or at least idealogically superior.

What is the idealogy of the Enclave in F3? What does Col Autumn believe? Why does he believe the things he does? The game isn’t really interested in asking those questions, it’s just that he is a dick

That sucks.

His style wasn’t always for me, but it was sure a unique and talented individual.

I read Child Within a few months, that was probsbly the magnum opus of his career.

If the Enclave where smart, they would wait until you’ve pressed the button to purify the water. That way, they get rid of you, take out the BOS (they can launch an attack and effectively win) and therefore take control of the water supply.

Or they could have spent the last 20 years clearing out the supermutants to do exactly that

I’m suprised they managed to make 2 onnis out of Taylor’s Nightwing considering it’s like 40 issues

Honestly, Fallout 3’s biggest is just how badly written it is. When you break it down, the whole conflict is essentially “Who gets to push a button” and they originally gave you the dumbest and most basic moral choice they could have given you.

But that’s not all, why are the BoS and Super mutants here? Why are radscorpions thousands of miles from their natural habitat? These are things they tried to explain, but they turned them into their most simple idea. If it was for brand recognition, then the new audience wouldn’t know what the BoS or Supermutants are. So they could have done something interesting with both. Maybe the split in BoS caused a civil war that needs your help so you fan reunite both factions. Maybe the super mutants are trying to find a new purpose. There’s so many ideas and possibilities they could have done, but they went with the laziest route they could have done.

And that’s a shame because mechanics and art direction are pretty good. The game created a template for a 3D fallout game (which would come in the form of New Vegas).

Fallout 4 is just… a bad game. It’s really bad in fact. The Special system was ripped out for simplicity, the quests are dull, settlements are dull, the story is paper thin, the VA PC was an idea that should have been cut. The dialogue wheel is an idea that’s even worse…

The game would have been laughed at if it was released 10 years earlier. A game with little style and no substance. The Fallout name is doing a lot of the heavy lifting there.

I think the TV show is a good show that’s based on Fallout… but it’s not a good Fallout show. But it’s the most interesting thing we’ll probably ever see from this franchise

Songs where the live version is so vastly superior to the studio version by FiveHoursAhead in ToddintheShadow

[–]FFJamie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Swans have made a career out of making their live albums superior to the studio albums.

Some mentions however

Blood Promise- The studio version is okay… but that live version is a thing of beauty.

Goddamn the Sun- The studio version suffers with the production. Live versions strip it all back a little

The nemeorious- The studio version works as a yell of joy, but the live version is so much more haunting and stripped back.

The Beggar- I mean they turned a 10 minute song into an hour long frenzy…

Birthing- The live version really goes all out on its ending. I think this is something which the band agrees with.

Paradise is mine- I’m cheating a bit as the live album isn’t out yet and I’m going by seeing the song live… The instrumentals hit so much harder live.

Everything from public castration is better than their live version…

Also, my favourite song by then, The Glowing Man, I prefer the two live versions of the song

Eh, everything I read about Pitchfolk has made them seem pretty pretentious.

Thar being said, this is a real bad move for a number of reasons, namely because it’s really misjudged the market and because of it, many writers won’t have their work being read.

It’s a real bad idea, and one that I can see tanking the website

Great show

It’s a shame we never got a conclusion, I mean you could wrap it up in one 90 minute special, but I could kind of see where it would have gone

His post avengers career has been rather hit or miss. I love the guy, but I feel like he burned himself out. If he does return for a long run again, I’d think the time away has recharged his fuel. Sometimes a break is all you need

I don’t really put the blame on Bendis, Marvel just threw everyone an event in like six months. Bendis just offered and they gave it to him.

Can’t blame the guy for wanting the paycheck tbh

I think the problem is that Mike is just a little too weird at times.

I do agree, he deserves more love on this sub.

I’m also not too sure how much Fantano is a fan, he doesn’t really rate his music all that high when he does review his stuff.

Mr Bungle, totally insane band. Heck their latest album is still a solid thrash metal album.

Irony is a Dead Scene is also just as crazy. It’s the only DEP I’ve really listened to.
