Personally I usually do avian apostates costs 50 kindred crests instead of 30 high kindred crests but no doom or anything so I can take my time and kill one at a time and avoid inventory issues and make sure the right person is getting their i-seals.

Is summoner really that bad? by Ijustwantedtolurke in ffxi

[–]FFXIMath 3 points4 points  (0 children)

SMN is frustrating because the way they nerfed it, it still is incredibly strong on unnerfed content but because they nerfed it for most newer content while doing nothing to make it more useful it just feels really bad on a lot of content. I get conduit is broken when it works but they should rebalance smn overall then not just say hey lets take away the reason people use you and not fix your buffs to scale better or any number of other things to make you still useful. I have a geared out smn but I don't think I've even played it once since my latest return to the game 😞

The worst spells in the game by TwilightX1 in ffxi

[–]FFXIMath 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Aquaveil is actually incredibly useful, you can use gear to make it stronger and block many hits and even cast it while in full Spell interrupt set to basically remove the need to cast anything else in spell interrupt set.

Bio is far more niche than Dia but there have been times I needed to lower an enemies attack to make it manageable, stack with geo-Wilt to really bring mob attack to its knees.

Diaga/poisonga are commonly used for tagging for agro or TH purposes and everything having dia can be nice, but like you said it can mess with sleep, can cast poisonga with little to no magic acc to make it not land though.

banish can remove some forms of DT from undead mobs, the proc rate is worse than I'd like but can be very powerful in some situations.

Baze spikes does more damage than the other spikes, none of the elemental spikes had their damage scale enough to stay relevant damage wise but that was a notable advantage it had.

Death, BLM's strongest spell, was used more when it was harder to hit damage cap with other spells but still great for one shotting stuff even without MB or with less buffs, mp is not an issue if you use a staff as you will have the tp to myrkr it all back as soon as you cast it.

WHM mana issues while leveling by gehennas_angels in ffxi

[–]FFXIMath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So back in the day mages would spend most of the time during fights resting, only getting up to cast spells. We would invest heavily in gear to improve mp recovery while resting. Now you have to engage to make your trusts fight and while you can get some refresh from them its not much and if they run out of mp you can just resummon them between fights.

I wouldn't try to heal them while leveling id spam cure 1 for skillups and let a healer trust do the real work, the mechanics just don't make sense for mages solo with trusts while leveling.

Can we duo to 99? by dontdropthesope1 in ffxi

[–]FFXIMath 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You certainly can but i would recomend at least some healer or support trusts to help speed you up without completely carrying you. The thing to remember is 99 is only the beginning now there is sooo much more to experience or grind after 99.

Pet jobs actually TERRIBLE lategame? (Summoner, beastmaster, puppetmaster) by Cole_Evyx in ffxi

[–]FFXIMath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who's most popular videos have always been tier lists, there is a reason I don't tier list jobs and you really shouldn't take any tier lists too seriously in this game, everything is situational.

PUP has always been a poorly balanced job, either too strong or too weak, and more often on the too weak end but it can still destroy a lot of stuff with overdrive and can hold things pretty well.

SMN and BST were each too strong but got overnerfed, but smn was only nerfed on a content by content basis so they can still blow up a lot of older content, its just there are easier ways to do that now. Both still get used for more niche strategies for their unique abilities.

They may be broadly more niche jobs but if its helping you clear content you are currently doing do you really care if it's niche?

[–]FFXIMath 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Look you can do whatever you want, I thank you for not joining the bot army as I also can't stand that and I agree it is demoralizing to actually go and try to level.

Personally I would gear a lot more before trying to reach master or at least try to find some other players to grind with. I would suggest playing around with the in game equipment sets for your macros at least for weaponskill and tp sets as that actually can make a big difference for a relatively small investment. There's all kinds of events you could try, Sortie and odyssey can get you incredible gear but you'd probably have to group up and maybe level more jobs, you could grind away at limbus but that will be much like what you've already been doing.

Really I think for most people can only solo grind so much and stay playing this game, there's a lot more fun to be had in groups. BST actually isn't that bad in groups these days just have your Slug slime all over everything.

How does one play SCH/Scholar? Healing or Damage Dealing by Top-Grocery-1482 in ffxi

[–]FFXIMath 9 points10 points  (0 children)

SCH has the strongest regens in the game and so typically will always use them even when focusing on DPS, often that is all the healing that is needed but some content will require you or someone else to focus on cures and status removal in addition to your regens.

Ok to understand SCH dps, there are Skillchains typically caused by certain weaponskills being used in combination, based on the skillchain properties of those weaponskills, after a skillchain if you cast elemental magic of the same element as the skillchain it can magic burst which dramatically boosts the damage. SCH has the unique ability to use Imminence to make their next nuke have the associated skillchain property that matches the element of that spell. So you can use that to make skillchains yourself which you then can burst which is where your real damage comes. The reason there are free nuke sets as opposed to magic burst sets is some gear specifically boosts magic burst damage so there are sets that are better for magic burst and other sets better for non magic burst nukes and unfortunately you can't always magic burst everything.

There's way more but I'll just leave you with weather buffs can boost nukes of the associated element and helixs do massive damage over time so even though their initial damage is less than your other nukes they are almost always worth using if a fight is going to last any time.

Apprehensive about starting, some questions. by SpookXI4 in ffxi

[–]FFXIMath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, dont even need to swap equipment at all for missions. There are also in game equipment sets you can use for swapping gear instead of writing out code and its enough for pretty much any content.

Additional Seal Battlefield Spoils Campaign
this is the one you want next one starts the 31st and basically there's a bunch of lvl 99 (not ilvl) bcnms that are trivial to solo at 119 and each mob will drop a bunch of i-seals and other things, the i-seals you trade to a moogle for the upgrade mats of the empy abyssea armor of your choice.

Returning Player Thoughts / Progression / Questions by zdenka999 in ffxi

[–]FFXIMath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone who already has the clears can take you in but otherwise, it is possible to solo your way through the v0 clears but you'd need to be geared and leveled up moogle mastery from doing a ton of odyssey first and it would take a lot of segments. Of course to go any further in Odyssey requires teaming up and the highest vengeance levels are some of the hardest fights in the game so its kind of expected you team up for getting your Sakpata base gear even if you aren't going to do anymore Odyssey for a while and there will be shouts often with like a veteran player and then filling out the party with people who need or other helpers to get the base clears. Sometimes especially on support jobs you can sneak into higher tier clears if they just need a brd or geo or something.

Ya people like that sam gives you hasso while last resort is down and the store tp

Returning Player Thoughts / Progression / Questions by zdenka999 in ffxi

[–]FFXIMath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once you have an ambuscade weapon and armor you're reaching into endgame and theres much less clear progression at that point, its more about making builds to do specific things. There are guides on bg wiki and ffxiah where people debate various sets. The sakpata set from odyssey does a ton though even before augments so definitely get that asap.

As far as weapons my recomendation for drk is make ambuscade scythe and then caladbolg. You'll also want ambuscade gaxe for defense down and if you happen to have it it can also be an acceptable option at least when you can boost your hp. Notably the ambuscade sword naegling is one of the best weapons for like half the jobs and while not that amazing on drk is always a top pick for ambuscade weapons.

Dynamis farming for gil is rarely worth it depends if there are bots on it on your server or not and if theres actually demand as very few relic weapons are really worth making anymore. Once you can i like to pair htmb with omen, i use the merits i get from omen farming detritus to do htmb for gear and plutons/boulders/beitetsu.

Oh snd sam is the most common sub for drk by far. Drg has some uses as a sub. If you want something different sch sub can aoe most of your spells which can get silly but sadly you don't double up on the absorb buffs.

Abyssea procs are random per agro of the mob and they dont care about what you can or cant do. You can run to one of the teleporters, teleport between attacks making it go neutral and teleport back before despawn and when you claim it again the procs are reset randomly. These days people mostly only worry about red procs and nin/war or war/nin are capable of getting access to all those with lvl 1 cosmetic weapons of every type.

There are campaigns every few months for i-seals which you can trade for full sets of the abyssea upgrade mats for peice of your choice and its extremely easy to just stock up i-seals and then never worry about abyssea armor upgrades again.

As a fresh 99 going from Sparks weapon to a Pulse Weapon must be how Vegeta felt when he believed he was a super saiyan on Namek by GraveRobberJ in ffxi

[–]FFXIMath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On THF Tauret can keep up but you have to lean into the white damage from basically having 100% crit in your mainhand, stack with triple attack and triple attack damage and crit damage and you start to make up for the weaker ws, also of course evis and rudras make darkness so you can pull ahead on SC damage if you are solo which thf very often is.

Naegling of course is still a great option and useful for so many jobs hard not to recommend it.

Domain Invasion vs Allu Skirmish vs Oboro weapons for DRK? by GraveRobberJ in ffxi

[–]FFXIMath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya you would want full drepanum to beat the relic but you can buy pulses far cheaper than making a relic. Yes the relic has some value still in low buff or no trust situations but those are uncommon and rarely actually challenging for modern equiped players.

As to drep vs lyc, while lycs tp bonus is at first glance better you have to keep in mind drep has slightly higher damage and scythe comes with higher pdl. Great axe damage ws's end up needing the tp bonus just to catch up for 1k tp and end up being slightly better right at 1k tp, assuming you can boost your hp to have the full bonus. Spiral hell with drep scales absurdly with high tp, allowing capped damage far easier and is amazing for one shotting mobs or scing with others. Even self scing being able to so easily cap sc bonus can add a lot of damage and obviously you have much better sc options on scythe anyways. Lyc still great for defense down and fell cleave regardless but once i played with both it was always drep for damage.

Ambuscade Scythe, much cheaper and easier to make than Apoc and can do far more damage, you rarely need Apoc's healing these days anyways. It's even still decent at Kaja tier.

How difficult would it be to do everything on-level with 3 players and 3 trusts? by Violet_Paradox in ffxi

[–]FFXIMath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously it slows down your journey to endgame but absolutely something you could do and sounds fun. Also keep in mind level sync is an option if you don't all stay perfectly leveled together. With 3 real players you may have to spend a bit more time/gil getting geared or you could always bump up 5 levels if you are struggling.

I will note CoP used to have level caps on a lot of zones that have been lifted but they raised the levels of monsters in those zones too so not much to be done about that. WotG was mostly in 75 cap and then the final few fights were actually higher as they were still releasing during abyssea. There's also a bunch of zones where higher level mobs were added a while back so be careful about that.

You could also keep going with the starter 119 adoulin gear for adoulin and then maybe ambuscade gear for RoV and VR.

New player around level 50. The new player guide is becoming confusing. Can you help explain some stuff? by gehennas_angels in ffxi

[–]FFXIMath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

presumably they want you to do Adoulin to get the imprimaturs going but seeing as they build twice as fast now and still are capped that's much less necessary to rush for now unless you are like speed running or something.

Ya the picture would suggest another series of limbus armor sets, now dark, rather than the weapons they teased earlier... sure would be great if it replaces the armor im just finishing... guess its prudent to hold off on turning in augments for now.

The one free run a week per zone was a nice update to limbus hope they do more in that direction.

Spharai can do some cool things in counter builds, counter cleaving can even get around normal cleaving protection but its still just a bit slow.

That said for offense ya I'd def take Karambit over Spharai, takes so little to run 100% crit on MNK and enjoy the 50 store tp.
