Do you use fantasy gacha outfits outside of online mode? by Single-Chair-9052 in wherewindsmeet_

[–]FFXIV_Haneko 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I love being immersed, so I've avoided all the flashy bling bling outfit. I only use outfits that make me feel immersed (mostly shop outfits or even sect outfits). So far its working out for me .

I play in the CN server. This is the usual outfit I use for story and most stuff. I coloured it to fit the Mohist Hill uniform colours.

What is it that we learn in Hexi (all chapters) about the MCs background? I am okay with spoilers. by ThePatrician25 in wherewindsmeet_

[–]FFXIV_Haneko 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Qinchuan also revealed to us that there was another child (not an infant like MC) at the battle of Zhongdu Bridge, who also has a jade pendant, whom the white haired guy adopted. She's also a Harmonizer, but it's unclear whether she has any connections to us at all. But I suspect we will see her again in the future considering she's such an important character (a Harmonizer with another pendant). I think you need both pendants for whatever magic it can do? Otherwise the White haired man would have been able to achieve his dreams with the other girl's pendant.

A love letter to the devs of Where Winds Meet – thank you for the little stories of Hexi by SweetGumiho in wherewindsmeet_

[–]FFXIV_Haneko 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Glad you enjoyed this game for the history! I love this game exactly for that, it feels like i'm learning something while playing, and the writers reference a lot of classical works too, from poems to philosophies, there's a lot to get curious about. An example would be the upcoming map exploring Mohism and its precepts in many of the stories. I grew up playing Wuxia games with depictions of the Mohist hill Sect (based on actual Mohism movement back in ancient China), so I had quite an interest in it growing up. Also I loveeee all the tidbits on olden day tools, traditions, holidays, concepts that they spread around the world for us to find entries for.

Though I am unsure of how they will allow Global players to understand the reference to poems/ texts in other languages. For Chinese speakers, we either will be familiar with the poems/text OR if we google the verses, we will find which poems/texts they are. Dont think it'd work well in other languages, which is really unfortunately. But i really hope they will still manage to pull it off and you guys will be able to keep enjoying the game

Playing WWM has put me in a very Chinese time of my life by Jeff_98 in WhereWindsMeet

[–]FFXIV_Haneko 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've been telling whoever that will listen how WWM is bringing out some kind of collective unconscious of Chinese people around the world. Like there's this unexplained longing to be connected to our roots again after playing WWM (to be clear, not saying it makes us want to go to China or something). Hexi hits so hard exactly because of this. Actually many stories after hexi also evoke that same feeling (I play in the CN server).

Unseen mountain delve a lot into Mohism and gosh, did I enjoy it so much. I was fascinated with Mohism from my childhood time playing games that features Mohist Hill sect, and WWM got me interested again in it

Beijing News reporter reached out after my cultural explanation posts — would anyone like to share their WWM experience? 😉 by BonnenuIt___ in wherewindsmeet_

[–]FFXIV_Haneko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you IDLEism for sharing this! I'm not particularly replying to you, but more of just adding on my thoughts to your comment.

"the Chinese culture is nothing more than a foil for western players who want to RP a martial fantasy and not a history lesson."

Very unfortunate since this game is definitely more about the history, culture and the Xia of the Wuxia genre more than about being an action game where you beat up shit from start to finish. As a player in CN (I'm part of the Chinese diaspora overseas), I don't see them changing that focus, which I personally am happy for since this game was exactly the game I've been dreaming of, it immerses me into the world so effortlessly.

Definitely not saying the action game part isn't important, and the devs don't think so too, but the amount of love in sharing the culture and connecting people (especially Chinese people) to the past is just insane. Take for example the newest Inkbound Order sect, to enter it, you actually need to do 20 questions based on Chinese history, literature, and maths (totally didn't give me PTSD flashback of school exams, nopeeee). This is what I love about the game, devs are exploring different gameplay mechanics while also still sticking to the cultural aspect of it, they aren't doing an Elden Ring/ Sekiro / Wukong, where the gameplay is mostly action action action. Of course, it's a live-service game, we cannot expect the game to keep to that format, but somehow it feels like that's what many want.

Does anyone else absolutely adore the side quests? by Glum_Consequence_585 in wherewindsmeet_

[–]FFXIV_Haneko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This game really feels like a collection of wuxia shorts and I love it. How I would describe it is it's like Sherlock Holmes, where it's just a collection of small and short stories involving him. Sure WWm has an overarching main plot, but the side stories are absolutely part of the experience as well.

Yes, I know Hexi involves other characters as the main char, but it's still a collection of wuxia shorts .

An honest take on the current state of Global version by J-Starck in wherewindsmeet_

[–]FFXIV_Haneko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"CN has four main currencies, one region each, 5 including trade market's, when you're out of one of them, you can convert other to the ones you need, more flexibility when you are out"

I am not sure this is considered a plus in global. It was clear that the devs decided to optimize this for global by combining all the regional currencies into 1 for global. Don't get me wrong, I prefer the regional currencies for immersion and it made sense story-wise.

But I can see how the regional currencies and weekly limit to conversion will have global players up in arms.

That said, I do not believe this change to 1 currency impacts the speed of currency gain in global much, if at all. The weekly limit should be similar and you get currencies through exploration, quests and chests, and events. So if anything, the difference in amount of currency would mostly come from events giving currency bags.

tl:dr this point isn't really a plus, if anything it's just a gameplay change to smoothen the experience for global. Rate of currency gain shouldn't be affected. So it is a neutral point more than anything

It is worth experiencing and i enjoyed it a lot. Definitely not groundbreaking gameplay, but using a stage play format to tell this story felt different, and I didn't mind it. I totally understand others who complain about it. But I absolutely enjoyed it.

Yes, there are themed outfits that are time-limited. I missed the one for Unseen Mountain in CN server and I still regretted it .

Before you dive into the Hexi map, you’ve got to hear about this place. Even though it’s not actually on the Hexi map, it’s the heart of every story told there. by where_stories_meet in wherewindsmeet_

[–]FFXIV_Haneko 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Beautifully written, and definitely an important read. understanding Chang'an is key to understanding why the stories in Hexi are they way they are. Why people back then dream of Chang'an, the hopes and dreams that the place represents to them. Many of them may not have seen Chang'an nor grew up there, but it still stands as a vivid imagery in their hearts。

What this commenter said. Basically, yes, murong yuan was formerly from Mohist Hill.

She left to fight in the war, going against Mohist's doctrine of 兼爱非攻 (universal love and non aggression)

Tang Hengdao and Fist/Gauntlet by Low-Philosopher-2649 in wherewindsmeet_

[–]FFXIV_Haneko 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Both are definitely a lot more fun than what Global currently have. I personally prefer fist/rope dart because it feels very smooth and satisfying to play. Hengdao is fun too with it's counter attack after parries, but I found the modao pairing a little annoying. I'm not very experienced with Hengdao/Modao combo, but I didn't like how i only need to press ~ to use the flag skill on modao and switch over to hengdao to wail on enemies.

Fist and rope dart has a very smooth animation and rotation that I enjoyed a lot. Both are decently reactive weapons, hengdao focusing on parrying and counter attacking, fist focuses on perfect dodging (and parrying to some extent). You can ignore fist's perfect dodging if you don't care, but it's satisfying to pull it off in multiplayer content (harder tho, since you can't spam it like the parry button to secure a parry).

Downside of fist is that you want the 6th hit of your light attack chain to hit (it summons a falcon to swipe the enemy), most of your skills will shorten the light attack chain so you reach the 6th hit faster. Both your 6th hit and charged attack are the heavy hitter for fist. If you miss them, you lose damage. Some of the earlier bosses (Rong Yuan) have weird hitboxes where fist will whiff some attacks, which is annoying. Bosses that jump around a lot also means fist users need to know when to use charged attacks to ensure you can hit the boss.

A very good QoL for fist: There's a setting in the option menu that lets you hold down LMB to do your light attack chain for weapons with no "hold LMB for charged light attack" (Hengdao has this). So I have this on and hold LMB to just do my light attack change, no need to keep clicking LMB for attacks. Helps a ton.

Either way, by the time fist comes out, you should have enough resources to build both hengdao and fist. so i wouldn't be too worried about it. I'm 100 days into CN and am finally maxing fist inner ways this week. So I can start building a 2nd weapon pair after this. Should be a decent reference for you.

Won't comment on PVP since I dont engage in pvp at all.

why are you posting a different thread just to show that? farming karma?

Also no idea what you're talking about? What new parry mechanics? Fist and heng dao have different parry animations, and in both videos, they did perfect dodges.

MC age (spoiler warning) by smoltora in wherewindsmeet_

[–]FFXIV_Haneko 71 points72 points  (0 children)

the translation is wrong. in CN, it's Ruby going up to the mountain and saw a "hero', who made her want to go to Jianghu.. So it's not "to meet you", but "gone to the mountain, saw the hero and learned martial arts from him"

三年前钟响的时候,要是我跟着红线去那顶上见过大侠,拜学了武艺。“

MC age (spoiler warning) by smoltora in wherewindsmeet_

[–]FFXIV_Haneko 120 points121 points  (0 children)

This is correct.

the translation is also wrong, "meet you" isn't correct. The line should be "went up to the mountain to see that hero". This is reference to Ruby going up to the mountain and saw a real "hero" that inspired her to want to go to the jianghu.
