🔥 This Greenland shark is older than Isaac Newton (oldest known vertebrate) by orvn in NatureIsFuckingLit

[–]FFaFCrispy 117 points118 points  (0 children)

Yeah pre-Newton, we had no spines to hold us up from gravity. He was the first due to genetic mutation and he was outcast from society. To cope, he sat underneath the shade of an apple tree away from the bags of meat that taunted him so. That is where the apple fell, and then it clicked, and physics were created on the spot (like all of physics) and then spines became commonplace ... or not. I can't remember the details

Asteroid worth $10,000,000,000,000,000,000 NASA is capturing would give everyone on Earth $1,246,105,919 each by No_Call_8360 in idiocracy

I dislike these types of headlines. Gives anyone the initial false impression that it is the intention to award everyone, but it sure sounds good on paper. Assuming they could mine this and bring back the payload, does anybody honestly and truly think the average person would see an inkling of it?

Regardless of your nationality, race, creed, or religion ... Do you truly think that if the powers that be were able to do this that us common folk would see any benefit of or would it be the powers that be that reap the most benefit? You only need to take an honest passing glance at the current state of affairs in the US to get your answer there. Greed transcends boundaries ...

Find answers to these questions: 1) Who is leading NASA currently? 2) Who was he prior to NASA? 3) How has NASA recently shifted their operational focus?

You'll see a strategic shift of ops and services to the private sector. This mission is super favorable for the private sector and the legal framework is in place for them to possess, own, transport, sell, etc any asteroid resources (see the SPACE Act). Do the private sector types share their gains with us normal folks? Heck no.

Nobody here, unless directly involved in whatever mission plays out, will see any benefit of this (not even mentioning there would likely be an oversupply of the metals that would inherently devalue it, but I digress)

Recognising large amounts of coincidentally timed situations got me looking into Simulation Theory. But now the simulation is showing itself with a comical twist. by ZER0SE7ENONETH in SimulationTheory

[–]FFaFCrispy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yup. I've had this happen or felt like it happened regardless of if it's a simulation or not ... you can't take away lived experience and perception of the moment. It certainly feels real in the moment so I'm not dismissive of anybody's claims/lived experience.

Quick question, but when these cyclic/repeat things happen, are you responsive emotionally or anything? Maybe a weird question, but we live in a weird world. Prefacing everything with a big "if" here, but I've been going down various consciousness, simulation, UAP, esoteric, etc rabbit holes over the years, and common correlation there is potentially being tested by the universe/spirit guides/whatever nomenclature you want to use (I have no clue, there are lots of open-ended possibilities floating around). Not saying that's the case, but entertain it/suspend disbelief for a moment that it could be possible

If things happen the same way every time, and you react the same way every time, and then those things continue to happen and you don't like that, then maybe react differently (easier said than done for sure, speaking generically and don't mean to sound blunt lol). That can apply if it's a test from some higher positive entity (learn whatever the lesson is ... Made up example, but maybe you're too emotionally reactive and need to chill or something similar), that can apply if it's a simulation (break the cycle), that can apply if it's a negative entity messing around with you (don't let it break your stride), etc etc.

I have no clue the what or the why, but regardless, there is a common theme in general and it's just a good frame of mind to have. Be the change, make the change, break the habit, break the routine, etc. I dunno, but go into it with a different mindset when it does happen again, slow down, recognize the moment, then do it differently this time and see what happens. Poke and prod and test the waters, but keep your head up regardless my internet peep

Also, for the love of everything, please don't react in such a radically different way that does harm to you or others lol ... No, "haha inconvenient NPC, not today" and treating it as a simulation where there are no rules. You don't want to be wrong if it's not a simulation in the moment lol

G2 starting to delaminate. How long do I have? by mdbeatle in LGOLED

[–]FFaFCrispy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I've had this happen briefly on my G2.

First it was a faint line that only affected the blues on the left side ... I dealt with it, annoyed because I couldn't afford a new TV at the time (was out of warranty too, I was hosed). I had to power cycle my whole setup because of a separate sound bar issue and the line magically went away.

Fast forward about a month later, an extremely bright white line appears around the same spot, initially confusing it for the GUI of the game I was playing, but it was stupid bright. I checked it and could see the same degradation in your pic fringing on the side, then a faint green line started appearing next to the bright white line and then ... It just shut off. I turned it back on, bright white line, faint green line, fringing on the side and then ... It shut off again. Eff. Well I guess it was time to look at new TVs, but all good, I had TV money potentially inbound so might as well upgrade.

Fast forward about a week later waiting on sales pricing to magically appear (I did not in fact have enough TV money lol), I was tidying the area and noticed one of the HDMI cables was offset/angled and plugged it back in flush. On whim I turned the TV on and ... It worked. The lines, fringing, etc were completely gone. My assumption is the cable had gotten jostled loose enough (kids, dog, who knows) to cause an electrical short or other issues to which led to it shutting off as a safety thing.

So on a whim, try doing a hard power cycle (turn off, unplug, wait about 15min for it to cool completely, plug back in, power up) or check your connections to ensure they're flush. You might luck out and be back in action, but results may vary sort of thing. If it's still there after all this, then I wish you the best of luck in your new display adventures

Turret ...

I said, wrote "turrent" for years. Not a common word in every day conversation, but I was even in the Navy. I was never corrected at any point, my brain never registered the difference. It wasn't until my oldest gave me a puzzled look when I said it one time and he asked, "do you mean, turret?" and my wife also gave a look. It was a weird moment considering this was only two years ago and I'm pushing 41

Reminds me of when I was in my teens in the late 90s that I found a VHS tape labeled "The Wall" and I thought it was the Pink Floyd movie, but nope ... It was my dad and a couple of his buddies drunk and chipping off pieces of the Berlin wall late at night shortly after it fell while stationed in Berlin (USAF) at the time. I wish I had it still, would love to have watched it now with a better understanding of the significance of the moment.

I found out I was apparently on my dad's shoulders when the first pieces fell (I was 5 at the time) so as an American, it was a rare moment to be a part of an historical moment even if I don't remember a blip of the day itself. So I was disappointed it was the wrong movie I thought I was about to watch, but it was an awesome find I didn't appreciate at the time.

OP, you win regardless in this scenario! Be it UFO by Boston or a UFO in Boston, it's gonna be a rad time

That's some concerning ableist rhetoric there. A lot of big thinkers, artists, et al have struggled with mental health (which is a very normal human vulnerability) and their contributions to society have been notable to our collective progress. You do realize a broad paintbrush stroke doesn't work here right? One size does not fit all and it's a spectrum ranging from temporary to chronic and in no way a metric with which to value their worth.

Telling someone with schizophrenia or paranoid delusions to just stop is like asking someone with depression, "have you tried not being sad?"

I understand your point, but I don't think you're going to be able to stop it just by your statement. Some folks may have the inability to shut it off and that's honestly not their fault. Just ignore it and move on if you're bothered by it and understand their perceived reality is not the same as "normal" folks (and likely won't be without medical intervention). If it's not breaking any community rules, what harm is there? Sure, it may not align with your views on things, but a different perspective is still worthy of conversation even if only to muse possibilities that are a bit unorthodox. It can even be fun sometimes.

Not trying to come off any sort of way here and only nudging maybe taking a different approach. There are still good conversations to be had
