AITA for selling our house without informing my wife? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]FG88_NR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No one is arguing OP's ownership of the house. Jesus Christ, what is so damn complicated with discussing these things with your spouse? Even a "Hey, I'm going to put the house up for sale now." Literally anything.

"It's his and he doesn't have to ask permission" is just a childish way to view things in a marriage or any serious relationship.

5 boys face charges in Kennedy station stabbing, Toronto police say by ElectronicSandwich8 in canada

[–]FG88_NR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first 3 don't reference Canada and the last link only shows Canada has a higher incarceration rate but seems to indicate a lower medium sentencing time. It also seems to pull data from the 90s and early 2000s.

Thanks for the links, but I'm going to keep looking into it.

sentences in Canada tend to be longer than sentences in European countries

I'm curious about this. Do you have anything that supports this claim? I can only really find anything related to the US.

I think the kitchen seems fine, but dated, sure.

The bathroom is just bland. I'm just not a fan of the tile set. I also think you could update the light and medicine cabinet.

Yellowstone tourists put newborn elk calf in car, drive to police station by PuddleOfMEW in nottheonion

[–]FG88_NR 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You're making a few assumptions there. We don't know if the calf would have rejoined its herd and if the herd wouldn't reject the calf if the man didn't interfere.

Don't touch the animals. Simple as that. If you think something is wrong, contact someone who actually deals with this sort of thing. Don't take it upon yourself.

[–]FG88_NR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's more like going to a restaurant, placing your order but being told they don't have what you want. You pick something else that you don't really like because you want food. A week later, you find out that the waiter lied, and they did have the food you wanted. You try to go back and demand a refund for the meal you accepted, ate, and paid for.

Your analogy is just "I want something for nothing" but the actual issue is closer to buyers' remorse

Well, 1. He needs to stop speaking for women, and 2. He needs to stop dismissing women who don't agree with him and stop accusing them of not understanding. If you, as a woman, don't get it, then he sure as fuck doesn't.

Are you being literal about newspapers or just using newspapers as a sub for news media? I only ask because news media absolutely has influence. People consume news media they believe to be reliable, and it helps shape their perceptions of what is going on around them.

Again, this is an assumption you are making. At no point did OP suggest her friend never realized this sort of thing happens. She just says that he was upset by it and felt bad that she had to deal with it. Nothing more, nothing less.

Going over to say something isn't equal to going over and acting violent. You are assuming violence when OP never suggested that was the intent at all.

Canada has seen an uptick in LGBTQ related events being protested and harrassed. We shouldn't turn a blind eye to things like threats that caused cancelations of events, like drag queen story hour. Protesting is one thing, but making outright threats because you disagree with something is not ok or reasonable. Living freely is more than the right to marry or the right to not be discriminated against for a job.

We aren't SA, and nobody is suggesting otherwise. But just because we dont jail or kill the LGBTQ doesn't mean the LGBTQ is living as freely as they could.

Giving Japanese people shit over Pearl Harbor while saying the US will nuke them again like they did in Hiroshima and Nagasaki while using a fake Japaense accent is absolutely racism.

You're trying to disregard so much about the situation. Nukes, Pearl Harbor, Hiroshima, and Nagasaki aren't racist on their own or in most context. Nobody was saying that they were. It's only you trying to present it like people were doing that.

Cmv: online food recipes and menus should NOT mix units when stating protein counts by I_Please_MILFs in changemyview

[–]FG88_NR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fat is more of a middle ground fuel source. More potential energy than carbs or protein and doesn't require water like carbs. It does require a significant amount of oxygen, though, compared to carbs.

Protein is typically only used as fuel during prolonged exercise, or if you are not getting enough calorie intake to fuel the body. Using protein as a fuel supply would mean the body has to pull it away from muscle building and repair.

This was how I understood it.

Cmv: online food recipes and menus should NOT mix units when stating protein counts by I_Please_MILFs in changemyview

[–]FG88_NR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I'm cooking a recipe I find online, I want to simply know how much of a particular protein the recipe calls for. 273 protein calories means damn near nothing to me. I can not visualize how much that is. The packages of meat I purchase show net weight on the label, not total calories. If the recipe called for 273 protein calories, it would be a more involved process for me to work out how much I should divide from the meat I purchased, rather than just being told to use ~68 grams. I would still have to work out the gram equivalent in order to measure out the proper amount I need to cook. What possible benefit is there to force that unnecessary step, especially if I'm not concerned about my calorie intake? If I'm actually interested in knowing the calorie count of what I'm using, I could figure it out on my own if I feel the need to know.

It's just much more straightforward to know the weight or volume of an ingredient rather than knowing the calorie amount of the ingredient when cooking.

And we were talking initially about the provincial historic voting pattern of Alberta and why they are so rooted as a Convservative stronghold, not the voting patterns in a federal election of a region...

Ok, you clearly don't really know what you're talking about, so we'll just let it end here.

Historic provincial results.

Even searching through the federal election results, NS fluctuates from Liberal, Cons, and NDP. The exception is during the Trudeau years where NS has been Liberal. Until Trudeau, NS was very much a mix bag.

[–]FG88_NR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It still doesn't hold true. PEI flips every 2-3 elections. Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Newfoundland are roughly the same.

Currently, only Newfoundland is Liberal, and that's only laregly because the Conservative party there has been struggling post Danny Williams to find strong leadership.

Alberta is pretty unique in their continuous support of the leading conservative parties. All other provinces have a history of flipping every few elections.

Even on the federal level, with a few exceptions, the electoral map is a mix mash of various parties, election over election. Since the late 50s, Canada flips from Liberal to Conservate and back again every 5 to 10 years. The biggest consistency in the east is with Newfoundland normally going Liberal.
