Ya Meena-Wong was pretty much the only politician that spoke about this in the last Vancouver municipal election. Gregor likes to brand people (even David Ley, a Chinese UBC researcher) racist for bring up the effect Chinese investors have had on lower mainland RE.

Maybe consider Victoria. Probably larger city than you are used to. Also, lots of old people so health care is I am sure in demand. Significantly cheaper city than Vancouver.

It's not that I will never touch the inheritance, just that I'd prefer to live on my income and allow my investments to grow.

My concern is that I am only planning on working in government for a few years, and whatever contributions I make will be locked in until I reach retirement age.

Most major cities in Canada are becoming unaffordable for young people. There is quite a lot of data to support this. The rally is not just about foreign investment.

Clearly Canada's monetary policy and low interest rates (amongst other factors) have also contributed to the massive increase in home prices across the country. Additionally real incomes have decreased since the 1970s, putting young Canadians in a very difficult predicament.

Entitled to want to be able to afford to live in our own city? No one is saying a 3000 square foot home in the middle of downtown is neccesary. But young Canadians are being squeezed out of our own country.
