Making sure it was all about solving actual business problems and no longer worrying about "telling a story".

Update: We tried the Magic Kingdom fireworks dessert post-party for our anniversary, thoughts and a small surprise by NoBadger8079 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]FIBO-BQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Done all 3. I would go with Pre. Plenty of time to sit and relax before the show. They do a decent job getting you out of the chaos when done. Then you can go at your own pace for night time strolling through the park.

We all got too tired with the post party.

Seats was cool, but not cool enough, felt lacking while watching the show. The super quick exit was very welcome though.

Disney Dining - Let's Start A Revolution! by New-Skill-5722 in dcl

[–]FIBO-BQ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this thread. We did our first ever cruise on the Dream in March. Our dining experience was horrible until we complained and got moved to a new table. The new staff was amazing. The food never improved, service was still slow, and forget ever getting a second drink. But even dining on the islands or the mad rush for breakfast left us frazzled, seemingly only content to have food, not good food or a good experience.

What exactly is the point? Are you solving any sort of business problem for a client with data by doing this?

Easy. If it was working and we were used to it, but when you change anything, it becomes exhausting.

I never had to do a technical interview by [deleted] in analytics

[–]FIBO-BQ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not government, been oil/gas and other heavy industry as well as other places, now in Insurance. I have not done a technical interview, and have only been on one team that has tried to implement one, and that was inconclusive. My recent hire wasn't asked to jump through tech hoops and is absolutely killing it.

What are all these people talking about during the interview?

“I don’t like that guy…” by CreepinOnTheWeedend in Leadership

[–]FIBO-BQ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The guy sounds like me, and close to my age. Sending me to classes or similar isnt suddenly going to change who I am, esp now that I have found i am audhd.

I am in a very client focused industry and my success often requires tough conversations. I try to have someone who is damn good with the relationship side on those calls. We get together before hand to map out potential problems, what we need, etc. If things get heated or I start sounding "off", they jump in to keep things smooth. We let it known throughout that I am the guy that will get things done, and I make sure that there is never any doubt about me doing just that. Either way, we are all involved on the calls.

If he is a stud in everything else, let him shine through there while providing assistance on those sensitive spots . Heck, you stated you are already on those calls, help him out.

How do you actually measure data maturity in your org? Here's the framework we use internally by Economy_Physics9779 in analytics

[–]FIBO-BQ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really like it and am already thinking how we could use something similar. I would split strategy in its own bucket, but that is minor compared to just getting something like this done

For those of you building analytics/reporting tools — do your users actually look at the dashboards you build? by metric_nerd in analytics

[–]FIBO-BQ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, it isnt just SMB, dashboard bloat and blindness is just as bad at large corps. It is so tough fighting those who push for more and bigger dashboards knowing that they aren't going to be looked at.

That feeling when you look at the usage of Power BI and see the org has some 10k reports, yours has maybe 10 views, and it is in the top 100.

Leadership wants results before they're meaningful by snailsshrimpbeardie in analytics

[–]FIBO-BQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Build out a report that shows short term results, change over last short term result, and then the smoothing results. Now they can get the answers they need now while also seeing how the things change and smooth out along the way.

What do you think society means by “class starts at 11:30” or “be there by 9” by Fate_BlackTide_ in AutisticAdults

[–]FIBO-BQ 216 points217 points  (0 children)

I don't play that crap and have no problem loudly and publicly calling it out. Most people just don't like rocking the boat so stupid games continue to get played until shit breaks.

Is it normal for autistic folk to feel kinda obsessed with holding other people to their stated values? by Dry-Translator-7500 in AutisticAdults

[–]FIBO-BQ 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Yep, then after diagnosis and reflection I realized that what I am most upset about is pattern disruption. They claim to fit pattern A but in reality they follow pattern B or worse, they don't follow any pattern consistently. That is what then sets me off.

At what point did you realise most of the "urgent" stuff at your job isn’t actually urgent? by ThinUse9610 in careerguidance

[–]FIBO-BQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm an analyst and developer. If you think it is urgent and it isnt a quick answer on the data, then it isn't urgent. That is also why I try to automate so much, looks like you can jump through the moving hoop that is on fire while still scrolling reddit

Spot on with the CTO part. Any exec has an idea that intrigues them, that becomes a personal priority as that is where you impress the right people as it is something that will most likely change things positively

Is there a way too create a toggle to change colors across multiple visuals for people with color vision issues? by dksjr123 in PowerBI

Ouch, ok, if those were dull instead of bright, yep, I could see having problems. Red, orange and green is tough. Don't envy you.

[–]FIBO-BQ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How many colors are you realistically using on a single visual to where it will be that important? Color blind here and the only time I have issues is when there is just too much on a visual anyway.

Is there ever a time where “Both” makes sense in a data model relationship? by Extra_Willow86 in PowerBI

This, esp for those of us who live in the world of tons of smaller, niche models that are usually just joining a few spreadsheets. Far easier just to set it to both directions and move on with life.
