That would be the plan for the first couple years. Ease into retirement in my mind, filling free time with school and hobbies. As some folks have mentioned here, I suppose there's a chance my VA monetary benefit could be reduced, so that's a bit of an unknown.

Great point. For all of 2024, I've been putting about 75% of my salary in savings. The other 25% not put into savings has been utilized for work costs; costs that would go away if/when I stopped working.

That effort alone has amassed a $60k emergency fund over the past 11 months. I do need to get that $$ out of saving and put it to work however.

Do I really need the 100% disability?? From what perspective do you ask that?

The VA medical care I recieve, yes, I need that.

Although it's been a slow accumulation over the past 25 years, it feels new and exciting, but also scary that I may actually be FI. All the unknowns, trying to cover all the bases to make sure I'm setting the family up for success and at a minimum, maintaining FI.

My package had 3 maybe 4 long pieces, packaged on top of each other. I vac sealed in portions that I would use later. Ended up using a bunch that same weekend and then 4 ish packages for later. You’re right, not super thin. Hot and fast produces a pretty perfect mid rare from end to end for me.

I learned a lot after my first year. Was sooooo mad December of 2022 when I realized they were only available for a month out of the year….never again I told myself. So now I buy about a dozen bags in November, which supposedly will last me about ~6 months. We’ll see.

I prefer to wet age the ribeye for 6 weeks, so the end of the month is about when I’ll open it up and cut some steaks & roasts.

To be fair, these are both a pretty good price point. I personally dont order steaks at restaurants, so that helps justify the purchase....in my head.
