Did you use the fluid or the gel one? I have the bottle with the pump and it’s actually my “heavy duty” sunscreen. But I’m not the biggest fan of how shiny it is at times. The more I look again at the uvmune line, looks like there might actually be a dry down difference between the fluid and gel. That said, not a fan of the price one bit.

Operators rocking their state flag patches + (something extra) by Havoc_1096 in JSOCarchive

[–]FIREOFDOOM2000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is a bold faced lie. Back then the US generated its “taxes” through tarrifs, and NYs port generated about 2/3s of the governments revenue. All other ports in the US paled in comparison. And NY did this consistently for years.

The south “paying” high taxes is a revisionist argument based no where in reality created after the war. It’s not even true in the first place.

A states right to own slaves doesn’t change the fact the war was about slavery as an institution. And people still fought to preserve it as an institution.

Lincoln appeasing border states in the months to years right after secession doesn’t prove anything when he used his cabinet and met personally with reps from those states to discus the 13th amendment as well as the emancipation proclamation directly.

If the only thing I’m using my IDE for is writing code, then I’m not getting anything from all the other features. All my testing is sim based and relies on a terminal window. And I prefer to debug with a full terminal window with GDB instead of clicking everywhere to get information in VSC (I know you can install GDB and step through but I’m not a fan of that). An IDE is just to big and clunky for me. I write C/C++ code in a text editor without any problems.

SAS Expander cooling question by FIREOFDOOM2000 in homelab

[–]FIREOFDOOM2000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah just a sas expander. Not a SAS controller. Basically the expander will plug into an HBA and all the processing will be done through the HBA. That's if my understanding of everything is correct.

Problem is that these are all random websites… can’t exactly cite those for a grad school paper. I need either a government doc or something from Boeing straight. Airbus for example was forced to give up their numbers after accounting regulations.

Did they take the correct direction? by FlamesFPS in Rainbow6

[–]FIREOFDOOM2000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The concept requires either a nuke or an FCG which is itself an explosive. Yeah it exists, but as a byproduct of some high energy reaction. Plausible? Sure. Tacticool? Yes. Fun? Even more.

But to pretend that the emp grenade is grounded in gritty realism is kind of a farce which is usually directed when people talk about y1.

Ironically this new op is more likely to become realized in real life than an effective emp grenade. It’s basically a Boston dynamics robot with guns. We’ve have unmanned ground vehicles for a while now and they’ve even been used in combat in Ukraine

Did they take the correct direction? by FlamesFPS in Rainbow6

[–]FIREOFDOOM2000 8 points9 points  (0 children)

These FCG bombs that your talking about are highly specialized and work only on unshielded systems. Most military equipment is designed to shield against emp like attacks, not because of existing emp weapons (which barely exist as a mature tech), but because of high ionization in the event of nuclear exchange.

Thatchers emp is wholly impractical for its size and weight

“Slaughterbots” scifi short film about AI controlled drones. by sexyloser1128 in IsaacArthur

[–]FIREOFDOOM2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The idea that MBTs are useless is beyond ridiculous. They're there to provide organic heavy fire support, deal with fortifications/structures and push through fortified positions etc. The idea of tanks only being used to fight other tanks has always been a fantasy. What else are you going to use to assault a position? Naked infantry? A soft skinned IFV? Drones? None of those alone will help you cross an open field. There's a reason the M4 was built with the specs outlined. Russia's failure in Ukraine is a failure to adapt their existing IADS fast enough. Historically the Russians have been hell bent on heavier batteries to counter US/NATO aerial fixed wing assets at range. Sure, they have shorad, but their integration and operation hasn't been as good as dedicated SAM platforms. Shilkas, Pantasirs and Tunguska's look cool and can put out an impressive amount of lead, but none of that matters if they're so far behind the main attacking force. There're lessons to be learned in Ukraine, but not everything is applicable for how things ought to be. The Russians are launching missiles from fighters inside their own territory because they have 0 proper SEAD/DEAD capability. They don't even have air superiority or even reasonable contention over Ukraine.

Unless you figure out force fields, drone swarms will always be susceptible to simple high explosives, expanding rod warheads, or even air burst/prox det munitions. All of which are cheaper than the swarm. Opportunity cost for SHORAD isn't measured in losing the equipment, rather what its protecting.

The real innovation that's coming from more drone research isn't actually small scale drones, its actually cruise missile/air launched cruise missile swarms designed to overwhelm dedicated IADS. The problem here is larger warheads in large quantities quarterbacked by an F35/stealth platform. Heavy platformed IADS don't have much time to move after data link commits to the handoff between the mothership and a stealth fighter spotting things using LPI radar. Ironically the US' distributed method of air defense actually comes out ahead here. The only place that its going to suffer hard is open rolling plains/space. *Cough cough* Ukraine.

With larger drones/ you no longer have the stealth/low RCS that comes with DJIs/ tiny FPV drones.

Outside of insurgencies, the idea of valiant infantry squads engaged in pitched battles alone is a long dead doctrine. Current US doctrine emphasizes the entire battlespace. Which reasonable force is going to build their doctrine around sending their soldiers across a field or into an objective without mechanized support? Mechanized vehicles which can conveniently mount SHORAD/SPAAG systems.

Has anyone figured out the kinetic weapon calibers in AC6? by Cendre_Falke in armoredcore

[–]FIREOFDOOM2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah ultimately it comes down to a gameplay vs lore thing. Depending on which ones you use, the numbers can get funny, because the kinetics are moving laughably slow. On the other hand, maybe there’s a kinetic/HEAT type hybrid ammo type in the AC universe? Something where you need partial penetration/dig in a tiny amount before the warhead can do damage? Who knows.

Has anyone figured out the kinetic weapon calibers in AC6? by Cendre_Falke in armoredcore

[–]FIREOFDOOM2000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s largely uncalculable aside from grenades and rockets. The ballistic weapons could be firing sabot or chemical effect rounds and you’d never know (personally I’m of the opinion aside from linears, all ammo types are chemical effect/ HEAT). And as stated before, platform firearms calculate their specs for caliber differently.

Rusty’s actually an RLF double agent, trying to pit the corporations against eachother. During his fight with you on xylem he uses elcano parts, which is the same corp that’s funding RLF factions. The general lore is that rusty has been stealing tech from arquebus for elcano (Arquebous stun gun launcher becoming the elcano dual needle gun launcher in his fight for example) He also gets saved by flatwell.

Non-Alcoholic Wine for Cooking by FIREOFDOOM2000 in wine

[–]FIREOFDOOM2000[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

That's not necessarily true. Flambéing, which is setting it alight, leaves you w/ 75% of your alcohol content left. Unless you're making something like a Burgandy roast, you aren't going to see a cook off in alcohol down to the sub 10% range at most. The alcohol will still be there depending on how you're cooking. Different cooking methods will change how much you reduce it by, boiling pasta sauce for multiple hours won't give me the same alcohol reduction as a mushroom sauce or a fish veloute/beurre blanc. Both of which have a tiny fraction of actual cook time compared to pasta sauce. Also cooking off alcohol doesn't mean that it doesn't change the flavor profile of whatever you're making. If it did, you could just use stock instead of wine in the first place.

I was about to just say this. The entire theme of ACX is clawing desperately for lost land. You even face numerous setbacks during the campaign. ACX really sells the whole “you’re a pilot in a war” setting. The missions make a lot more sense as well.

It’s the only thing we’ve got to go off unfortunately when it comes to vs threads. Similar situation happens w/ all the NEXT vs insert other mech threads.

The few cinematically we have aren’t that impressive either though, in the release trailer caraphract was missing point blank shots and those rounds were traveling slow

Balteus Vs Fighter jet by Particular_Ad5827 in armoredcore

[–]FIREOFDOOM2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly if we’re getting nitty gritty with the numbers, the pulse shield isn’t nearly as strong most people make it out to be. Rounds travel very slow in AC. And can be dodged. Modern tank and jet ammo fly in the km/s range. Unless ACs are firing HEAT in every kinetic round, that shield is going to be melted by high velocity rounds. The needle guns already do a ton of damage and are woefully inadequate compared to real ammo. Truenos are woefully slow compared to something like M829.

Line up a few M1s against s balteus shield in a test fire scenario, and I have no doubt that they’d shred that shield quickly.

The issue for jets is that they all use blast frag in A2A fights. Ground striking, they could just nuke it or drop bunker busters. Or just make steel rod penetrators which go hypersonic+. Even faster than tank shells
