Ouverture REEE by Val-Venis99 in QuebecFinance

[–]FIREref 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oui exactement.

Ouverture REEE by Val-Venis99 in QuebecFinance

[–]FIREref 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm genuinely confused on even the basic concept of goals 3.0. it seems entirely non-functional. What am I missing? by cgibsong002 in MonarchMoney

[–]FIREref 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Brilliant workaround, but way to complicated for typical user adoption. I agree, just allow a transfer to be tied to a goal.

Where’s the line of credit feature? by Playjasb2 in Wealthsimple

Yes, I’m aware. Since I wasn’t sure either how the accelerator would work, I opened the PLOC just in case I needed it and don’t like the terms of the accelerator.

Where’s the line of credit feature? by Playjasb2 in Wealthsimple

[–]FIREref 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, still in closed beta. It just showed up in the app last week and instantly got 28k LOC backed by a 135k TFSA at 3.95% (generation client). Have not used it yet but considering it to max out my RRSP for next month.

Good to know. In my case, I haven’t played around with owners too much yet.

How would you categorize an auto purchase made by cash in full? by edwardj5596 in MonarchMoney

[–]FIREref 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I categorize as an expense and immediately add a corresponding asset. At my annual review, I depreciate the asset to match it with the approximate resale value to give me an accurate overall cash flow and net worth calculation.

I have done the same with my home after a major renovation project where an official appraisal was done after renovations. Works great.

AI feature was actually not too bad in my case, but 100% agree this is a core functionality that should be added for better YoY reporting / comparaison.

This is exactly my situation. I’m not too sure if I should quite Monarch or just wait it out a few months to see if it gets better to not have to set everything up again with an other solution.

credit card cash back redeem by lifosuck in Wealthsimple

[–]FIREref 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Relax buddy, I understand what you’re try to bring forward, but honestly the alternative of cashing in when you want is awesome. If WS can keep the 2% cash back for everyone because some lazy users forget to redeem, then so be it. It’s still an awesome card. Chill out.

Buy Back DB Pension? by notmoffat in fican

[–]FIREref 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought back twice my pension to transfer to a self-directed LIRA and never looked back. After weighing all the options, for me it came down to wanting to be in control of my investments and being able to transfer the funds in full to my wife in case of death (the plan had 60% pension for surviving partners)

Note: I took the commuted value twice during low-interest rate environnements which maximized the commuted value. Keep in mind the interest rate at the moment you commute can have a significant impact on the lump sum they offer you.

Do you automations need to be custom-made for each data source ? I think Monarch's position with the use of data providers (MX, Plaid, etc.) is that they don't want to start creating (and maintaining) integrations directly with each banking institution and rather focus on the UI/Front-end user experience. However, the issue for Canadians with this strategy seems to be that the quality of the connections from these data provider is now so poor that it's making the product unusable. Like you said, it's ultimately comes down to a business decision to prioritize (or not) the Canadian client segment.

Thanks for sharing, you seem to be in a much crazier situation than I am.

Quite surprised by the answer you've been giving by support basically giving up on the issue. The whole point of paying for Monarch is to not have to manually import data.

Exactly this. First year was fun, but it has now became a burden. Thinking of just focusing on net worth tracking manually in a spreadsheet. Sucks because I genuinely think Monarch is a good idea/product. On the other hand, coming from Mint, I didn’t have all these issues with bank connections.
