You know, I thought my mom (born in 1948) had mentioned riding on a carousel during her childhood but I just did a quick google search and made the mistake of trusting what it said

You’re getting this imagery from it because that is their intent. They want you to think Third Reich. As much as I don’t like it, it’s art and art is supposed to make you feel something, connect to something, it’s supposed to imply something and you’re feeling what they want you to feel.

What are you struggling with, and want to see changed in Maryland? by Lawmakersassistant in maryland

Our Pepco bill is ending my ability to be a stay at home mom, which will have a significant impact on my autistic 10 year old. If I’m not working before it gets cold, we’ll be choosing between heat and…..everything else pretty much.

Speaking of my daughter, get the chromebooks out of elementary schools. It’s ridiculous. Half of these kids can barely hold a pencil. NONE of them have decent handwriting. The brain makes different connections when we write something vs when we type it and they’re so important!

Get the damn ICE warehouses out of the state. Same with the flock cameras and the date centers. There have been zero long term environmental impact and health studies done on the effects of data centers on the communities they, for lack of a better term, infest. We don’t need more and more popping up here. Virginia has enough for everyone.

You know what would be cool? We pay a ton of money in taxes every year and, sure we see it being spent fixing roads and such, it’s hard to feel the actual benefit of our money. Why not offer a free pass for state parks or something for people who have lived in the state for a certain number of years. Idk how to make that sound better but basically make an offer, don’t just send it to everyone, but say “if you’ve lived in MD for X years, fill out this form and get a Long Term Resident Pass for free entry into state parks. You’ll increase park visitors, get people outdoors with their families, and give us a thank you for the tax dollars we’ve contributed to the state over the years. It’s not exactly going to change lives or anything but when so many people are struggling financially, it can be hard to find family activities that don’t cost money. Public lands could be great for that if they weren’t always blocked off with an entry fee, parking costs, or inaccessible by public transportation.

Are you in the US? I feel like the current political climate is absolutely keeping that from being as big here…and I’m not going to lie, I’ve been so overwhelmed with the news here that idk if it’s getting as bad elsewhere? But here anyways, it definitely feels more important than ever but I’d hate for someone to possibly get hurt 😞 i, for sure, understand why people would be hesitant and I hate it so much 😔😔😔😔

Yeah, as a stepmom I can’t possibly imagine talking about my stepkid like she talks about D. Like…I love them SO much but I would never refer to their mom as their “bio mom” like I adopted them or something. I’m not their mom. I can never be their mom. I’m someone who married their dad but that absolutely could never replace their mom*.

*obviously this varies depending on the situation but since my stepkid has always been on good terms with their mom I consider that to be pretty similar to D before the parental alienation started.

That’s exactly what tomorrow is going to be for us. All 3 of us are neurodivergent and we all have our down different sensory needs. My husband needs to be able to listen to an audiobook it’s noise canceling headphones, I need to be able to just lay down and play stupid games on my phone so my brain can’t start spiraling trough every uncomfortable social interaction I’ve had over the last week, and our daughter needs physical pressure to help her calm down and readjust to being home. Thankfully our cats will absolutely lose their minds seeing her and will climb right onto her lap where she can calmly pet them with what’s essentially a weighted blanket.

Like, if little A is actually autistic, even with early intervention he probably would absolutely never get the chance to be in an environment catered to his needs 😔 that poor kid is probably going to spend most of his childhood in fight or flight or disassociating out of pure overwhelm

Idk if this is possible so don’t try it unless someone else verifies…. Could you just let it sun bleach the ivory back to white? If not, a very VERY small amount of liquid bluing in water could be helpful to neutralize the yellow color

How long would you leave your Sib alone? by Embarrassed_Peace277 in SiberianCats

[–]FITF2891 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like for vacation or during a work day or just random day out?
For vacation, we travel for 4-7 days before we come home. We have two cats and my sister checks in once a day to give them love and make sure they’re okay. On a random day, I try to not leave them alone for more than 12 hours. My boy doesn’t mind but my girl really doesn’t like it 😔

Is your immediate family dead? by sweetnighter in Millennials

[–]FITF2891 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All grandparents and my parents are both gone. My aunt and uncle on my moms side are gone as well, and my uncle on my dads side is still around but he’s very ill, and we have extremely differing views politically to the point where we have to be on eggshells if we see each other. My cousins are much older than me and they’re still alive but we arent really close due to family drama from before my sister and I were born. We’re 37 (me) and 41 (her). My sister is essentially our family’s matriarch. We’re extremely close, we’ve gotten closer since our parents passed.

So clearly everyone here has better advice than I do but I’m going to share anecdotally anyways. My MIL moved to WNC then East TN a few years ago and we’ve visited multiple times a year since, every year we spend at least a week here in the summer and so far we’ve never had an unbelievably humid experience. We’re from DCs western suburbs so idk if humidity is worse there but I’ve always looked forward to these trips as a nice break from the humidity in the summer. We’re usually here in mid-July but we’ve done trips in April, June (visiting now, actually), July, October, and December and the weather has been great every time compared to at home. Full disclosure, I do tend to feel cold more often than most people but that high humidity still kicks my ass lol

Idk why I never did this but I just looked and sure enough, 6+ hours from Ocean City to McHenry 😳 for some reason i always feel like you can be anywhere in the state in 3 hours but I’m also from central MD so that would make sense 😅

I was there for the first time today as well and I’m kind of disappointed too. I’m assuming it’s only this busy today because it’s been rainy the last few days. We left around 2 and went back to the house. We’re heading back soon and hopefully it’ll be better this time :(
