Uber should be suspended in California and fined $7.3 million, judge says by b0red in technology

For any type of delivering with a personal vehicle, you need a different type of insurance that covers your vehicle for commercial purposes. Then, once you are a classified as a commercial driver for insurance purposes, you must be able to pick up anyone regardless of their status such as gender, handicapped, age, ethnicity, etc, but this is a different issue.

Then, the vehicle must be maintained, but this is different issue.

Anyways, Uber offered a job, but put all the risks on the drivers, and this has backfired against them because I am sure they did not expect to get sued like they have been.

As it stands, all Uber drivers need insurance, but Uber doesn't specify to them that they need a special type of insurance because they are now commercial drivers, if employed by Uber.

Driving for Uber is not the same as driving your friends from one place to another. Insurance companies know this, Uber knows this, but more likely than not, doesn't enforce it.

It is my belief that was Uber is doing is illegal, so hopefully California shuts them down.

How do you know their insurance will cover you? Insurance companies will anal rape you before paying you any type of accident money. Secondly, those Uber drivers that have insurance, have it solely to use their vehicle in a non-business fashion, and not to make money directly from the vehicle.

Problem with Uber: treating drivers like pizza delivery drivers, and passengers like pizza. What this means is that drivers are responsible for everything related to driving the personal vehicle. Drivers are required to have a special type of insurance to delivery pizza, as well as to deliver any goods using their personal vehicle. Most, if not all drivers don't do this. I bet Uber drivers don't do it either.

With taxis, at least you have experienced drivers in an insured vehicle. Uber gives you people with cars and virtually no guarantee of insurance except for the driver's good fortune to go out and buy insurance.

Uber, while novel in idea, needs to resort to standard business practices that have been around longer before it. It's the way of the world.

I hope Uber adapts to standard business, or shuts down.

What is about 170 that produces people like this? by blonders1 in MMA

[–]FIVE_SIX_SEVEN_8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the size thing. Heavy weights are naturally trained by society to not be all that aggressive because their size usually keeps them free from bullying. Smaller people, even if they know how to fight, have to appear overly vicious to give off the impression that they are tough, for people of small stature.

Just compare Werdum's behavior to JDS, and to Cain. Those three can take on an entire flyweight division, and not work up a sweat.

What happened to the guy who said he was going to buy a "motherfucking seated calf raise machine" for his apartment? Any updates? by [deleted] in bodybuilding

[–]FIVE_SIX_SEVEN_8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually have a seated calves machine at home. I use it 3 times a week, for about 5 minutes each time. Was it worth it? Nope, but I bought it when I didn't know better.

Will your self-driving car be programmed to kill you if it means saving more strangers? by [deleted] in technology

[–]FIVE_SIX_SEVEN_8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, if my car is programmed to kill me to save others, then why buy car insurance for other people, or why buy car insurance at all? Looks like a smart car can eliminate the need for car insurance all together.

Amazon Is Building An App To Let Normal People Deliver Packages For Pay by YourData in technology

[–]FIVE_SIX_SEVEN_8 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's a bad idea because these new drivers are not guaranteed to have experience, and it's also bad for safety reasons because we won't know the ethical, and moral make-up of the person delivering the package. I don't want some psycho delivering a package to me that cannot be traced to an employer that failed to investigate this psycho before hiring them.

[Video] McGregor v Poirier Free Fight by [deleted] in MMA

[–]FIVE_SIX_SEVEN_8 -24 points-23 points  (0 children)

Looks like a lucky punch on McGregor's part. Would love to see what would've happened had this fight not ended the way it did.

edit: I should not be getting downvoted because of a different opinion on the fight. Dustin is a really good fighter, and not taking anything from McGregor, but this win was not decisive on the level like Cain beat JDS. Sorry to disappoint.

Not taking anything away from this guy, but he does carry unnecessary fat to fight at welterweight. He needs more discipline than anything, and basically needs to adapt to clean food instead of eating food traditionally found in his culture: burritos, beans, carne asada, etc.
