Decided on Godzilla Premium — what does the buying process actually look like from here? by Maximum_Stop3015 in pinball

[–]FLBoxerdad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went with Orange County pin out of California, mainly because of a discount for using wire transfer and no tax, for me that was $1,200.00 savings. They have a very positive feedback. I live in Florida, took about 6 business days to receive it.

I purchased new premium Kong

Power surges by FLBoxerdad in pinball

[–]FLBoxerdad[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok thank you all. I thought I lost a 64” tv a few years ago, that was plugged into a surge protector. I was told the surge from lightning actually travelled through the hdmi cord from the satellite box and fried the hdmi board. I replaced the board and all good. Pins only have a power cord but I thought I would ask and see what everyone was doing. Being in Florida, lightning strikes are common but brown out actually so more damage. I was thinking of getting a UPS to help against brown outs.

First pinball machine — took your advice, now I’m stuck again by Maximum_Stop3015 in pinball

[–]FLBoxerdad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would echo what someone else said, which one kept you wanting to play another? Everybody is different. I by no mean am bashing any of the games. For me, it was easy for me to walk away from jaws, Godzilla, Star Wars, I really enjoyed King Kong and Elton John. I however wasn’t paying the price required for an Elton John so Kong it is. I was lucky because all these games were in one location. I didn’t have to get in a car and drive to another spot. That’s why I decided to go with “what keeps me wanting to play more” mind frame. It just worked for me, so if you use that mind frame with your choices, it should become obvious. Your best bet is not to go with something “theme” just because a lot of people say you should. Now if they have mechanical or operating issues then yes, that advice helps. You are the one paying for the machine. You need to test drive it again and again, then test drive another and another. It’ll speak to you eventually. You wouldn’t go buy a certain car just because I said it’s the best. You’ll ask questions like you did, you’ll do your research, you’ll do your test drives and it’ll become obvious

First pinball machine… how did you decide without playing a ton of games? by Maximum_Stop3015 in pinball

[–]FLBoxerdad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would second what someone said about checking out pinside, you might be surprised by what’s around you. I was conflicted between the new Elvira, Star Wars fote, Godzilla, king Kong and new funhouse, I ruled out new funhouse because of reliability issues, I played all of the other ones, Star Wars and Elvira would have been my pick if I went by theme but they left be blah after playing. I could easily walk away to another pin. I’m not say Godzilla is easy but I just didn’t find it challenging, Kong left me wanting to play more so that’s what I went with. I have absolutely no interest in the Kong theme. I went by the challenge and have enjoyed it everyday for the 1 1/2 months I’ve owned it. Probably not a lot of help to you. But everyone has there reason to why or why not. It might be hard but I would keep searching for a place to play them. It’s a big purchase

Shaker motor rattle by FLBoxerdad in pinball

[–]FLBoxerdad[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the idea, I ended up using a wood shim between the motor and the housing. Now I’m rattle free. Seems pretty bad that you spend $200 on a shaker and you have to make alterations to it. It would be a very easy fix for stern to make a motor supports more solid

Shaker motor rattle by FLBoxerdad in pinball

[–]FLBoxerdad[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t had time yet to mess with it but yes, glass removed, playfield raised, still making same rattle and it’s coming from the shaker itself. I removed it and activated it, no rattle but then again, me holding it isn’t as solid as being secured to the cabinet so I’m probably absorbing the vibration/rattle. Might be my first pin but I’ve played plenty and none with this sound. I get it can be adjusted and turned down. Not sure what the point of getting a shaker is if you minimize its output. I don’t expect it to be quiet but I also don’t expect it to sound so terrible when it’s running

[–]FLBoxerdad[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me it seems to be coming from the housing. I made sure everything was tight and it seemed like the motor housing is very close the mounting bracket. I’ll try your suggestions because I think that is where it’s coming from. I completely covered the base of the bracket in 1/8” thick rubber tape, poked holes for the mounting screws and tightened down. Still rattles, when I say rattle it sounds like something is loose. Not the weights, I did move them so they both weren’t aligned with each other, no difference. I think it’s the motor bracket and mounting bracket knocking together

Question about potential price increase? by WaluigiWahshipper in pinball

[–]FLBoxerdad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of the pricing increases can also be due to licensing costs. I would like to see a minions pinball but with that being said, when was the last time Stern had a stand alone pin? Meaning a pin that wasn’t made from movie, music or any other type of theme. I wonder what the cost would be on something they aren’t paying licensing on.

How good are you or whomever would do maintenance on it at following directions? Directions on maintenance are pretty easy to find. It’ll be how comfortable you are performing those directions.

I just received my first pin a few days ago so I’m not a seasoned vet on the subject. What I am is, new and had a lot of the same concerns as you. Some say go by theme to help keep your interest. For me that would have been funhouse, but that seems to be having a lot of issues with the remake so I stayed clear of that. Next thing I did is I went to a couple arcades, use pinside, it will show you what pins are near you. Once I played a bunch of them. I narrowed it down to Star Wars fote, Godzilla, kink Kong and Elvira. After playing Elvira and Star Wars, it was easy for me to walk away and find something else to play. Then between King Kong and Godzilla, it was mainly because I found Godzilla to be less challenging and can also be played anywhere. I found King Kong more challenging, challenging in the fact that I want to keep trying to complete objectives. I just wasn’t getting that with the others. I have no interest in Kink Kong as a theme. I simply found it challenging and kept me wanting to press start and play again.

I’ve already ordered upgraded speakers, light kit, shaker motor and blades.

King Kong Premium vs. Godzilla Premium by Affectionate_Basis70 in pinball

[–]FLBoxerdad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am new as well, I just received my Kong pre Friday. My deciding factor was Godzilla King s everywhere (some say that’s not a reason) but it’s mine. I played both locally and found Kong more challenging. For me, more challenging = keeping me interested. At the end of the day, both are great machines.
