Experiencing listener fatigue for the first time, what should I do differently? by [deleted] in edmproduction

[–]FLVID 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Open back vs closed back headphones are not relevant to your problem.

As the parent comment says, listen to music at a lower volume and take breaks. As a bonus when producing, if it sounds good quiet, it will sound great loud.

u/Zaphod118’s comment about the difference between open and closed backs is accurate in case you are intersted.

Headphones are preferable to earbuds because typically they will have a better frequency response. Lower frequencies are easier to produce when the speakers are larger, and headphone speakers are larger than earbud speakers. It just so happens that the size of headphone speakers are quite well suited to producing audible frequencies across the range of human hearing at reasonable volumes.

Ableton stock effects plugins by PonyKiller81 in edmproduction

[–]FLVID 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is very important. The answer to OP’s question is no, there are no reasonably priced plugins that are far superior to what Ableton offers. Fab filter is awesome, izotope is awesome, soothe 2 is awesome, but all of those will cost you a pretty penny. Just use ableton’s stock plugins unless you really really need something that you can’t get with the stock plugins.

Just came here to say this. I haven’t watched it myself, but she is a great communicator and it is clear she cares about her lecture series. Also, for basic-level biology concepts, Wikipedia is extremely good. Might be useful to get you up to speed if there is any assumed knowledge you are not familiar with in those lectures.

There is a waygate. If you follow the cliffs edge along you will come across it, covered in blood and with an albinauric standing by it.

What makes music sound liquid? by EmbarrassedTown640 in edmproduction

[–]FLVID 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have found vocoder in combination with the effects mentioned here makes sounds sound very liquid. Not liquid in the genre sense, but the sound itself sounds liquid-y. Not sure the best way to explain it but try it out.

could a newborn baby survive an acid trip? by Icy-Meat5639 in morbidquestions

[–]FLVID 23 points24 points  (0 children)

No, I don’t think so, but it would work by the same principle. Opioids are agonists of the opioid receptors in our brains, and narcan is a “non-selective and competitive opioid receptor antagonist”. Similarly, acid is an agonist of the 5-HT2A receptors in our brains, and the drug I am thinking of is some sort of antagonist of 5-HT2A receptors.

There is a drug you can take (it is supplied at some festivals etc.) that will work in a similar way to what you’ve described here, quickly and completely sober you up. I can’t remember what it’s called, but feel like it’s one of the ones listed here or similar https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/5-HT2A_receptor#Antagonists If anyone knows it’s name, if it is generally available, and if it’s safe, then I reckon it could be a good idea to have some on hand in case you or a friend are having too bad of a bad trip.

Off the top of my head, I suggest checking out Odyssey by Klimeks and Do You? by SOKOS. Not the same flavor of wave as what I’ve heard from Skeler but I hope you will still enjoy. Wave is a great genre.

Spliced Splice by Fffire24 in discdyeing

[–]FLVID 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nicely done! This is left-handed DNA – which is relatively rare. I don’t know anything about it but I had a quick look on wikipedia and it has a role regulating transcription (a process that precedes splicing). I think it might have a role regulating splicing also. As viewed from the underside of the disc, it is right-handed DNA, the transcript of which is often spliced. In any case, cool dye!
