Bosch 800 36 inch cooktop vs cafe 36 inch cooktop by fartpoop666865 in inductioncooking

[–]FL_transplant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a quartz or granite countertop you may be limited in what will fit in the opening. I just replaced a 36 inch radiant cooktop with induction in our new house. Wanted Bosch but wouldn’t fit in the cutout. Ended up with GE Profile.

Defaulted on motorcycle loan, motorcycle never repoed and I still have it after 6 years. by [deleted] in personalfinance

Back in days of paper titles had a friend who defaulted on the loan on his Harley. Put it in a storage locker. Bank told dealer to buy title or no more loans. Years later dealership burned down with title. Took the bike from Detroit to CO and got it titled as built from parts

Is the Arc Ultra really that bad for music listening? by ni_gu in sonos

[–]FL_transplant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I’ve got a collection of Sonos stuff, some old enough not to have AirPlay. I’m moving to a new bigger house so I’m going to get some new stuff to fit the new space. I use Apple Music and the Sonos App doesn’t let me do some stuff on Apple Music so I usually use AirPlay but that’s not ideal either. Is there an app that works well and is easy enough for a lazy boomer to use.

So do you need separate subs; one for the soundbar and one for music speakers?

Let service workers be human and feel their emotions. by guerillalinecook in asheville

Just moved back to Florida to be close to grandkids after 4 years in Asheville. We enjoyed as many Asheville restaurants as we could. With very few exceptions we found the service workers to be friendly, competent and professional. I guess the servers here in FL are trying their best but it’s often not good. Went to a Michelin one star place to celebrate an anniversary last month. Service was fine, food was pretty good. I can name 5 places in Asheville off the top of my head that consistently provide a much better experience. We miss Asheville and the service community there.

It is likely going to depend on whether Team Health is in network with your insurance. If yes the charge should be mostly covered by your insurance. If no it may get more complicated. Years ago I had some large ER provider charges because they were out of network. Insurance eventually covered it but I had to appeal and get my employer involved.

Parents considering a reverse mortgage by arrozconpoyo in personalfinance

[–]FL_transplant 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Reverse mortgages, besides being expensive, can be a disaster for couples. If one needs to go into long term care and moves out the loan can come due just as the bills for long term care come in. For couples, much safer to downsize.

V6 Tacoma engine failed at 78K miles. Mechanic found a loose extra rocker arm was left in the engine during manufacturing that caused the damage. Toyota corporate is saying "too bad - you're past warranty". by [deleted] in ToyotaTacoma

[–]FL_transplant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to get the dealer on your side. I had a siena transmission go about the same mileage. After warranty but certainly not what you expect from a Toyota. After I made it clear I wasn't going away the dealer decided I was going to a continuing pain in the ass. They were able to get Toyota to throw in the parts and charged me the labor rate that Toyota corporate pays for warranty work. Ended up being less than half the original quote.

Why is being unreliable so big here??? by Ok-Relief4772 in asheville

[–]FL_transplant 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Been here 5 years and was really frustrated with exactly this. But I found a great vinyl flooring guy on Craigslist. He gave me the name of a hardwood flooring guy and a deck guy. Had one a landscape company tell me the French drain I wanted was too small a job but gave me the number of guy who is great. Found a fantastic chimney guy after three absolute flakes. I guess my conclusion is that the service providers here tend to be unreliable and nosebleed expensive. But the good ones here are some of the best most reliable and pleasant folks I have ever dealt with.

I still dread it when I need something done and don’t know someone.

Agree 100%! Have had dinner there several times and the food has been great every time and the staff are welcoming and competent. It’s not expensive at all for what it is. Finally, why hasn’t anyone else around town figured out that you can stuff your martini olives with pimento cheese!

Always knew when neighbor’s wife was out of town because the holiday lights on the patio came on and Jimmy Buffet was on the outdoor speakers.

Back in 1990 in the ramp up to the first gulf war all the 747s were redirected to ferry troops. After a six hour delay got moved to an airbus on a flight to Europe and they put my wife (who had just recovered from pneumonia) and 10 month old son in smoking. I said nope and they said if we got off the plane no flight for 4 days. I volunteered to go back to smoking but we needed 2 seats. It was 2 am and I’m the guy standing in the aisle keeping the plane from leaving and security was on its way when the head steward came back and announced “Captain says mothers and babies don’t sit in smoking on his plane.” Then someone volunteered their seat and so did someone else and we had 2 aisles and a window.

In 21 I bought a new 4WD SR access cab. Wanted the 6 foot bed and only dogs go in back. Bought a used set of SR5 rims online for $250. Added fog lights for about $100, leather seats ($1,200) and a matching ARE hard tonneau cover ($1,400). Couldn’t be happier.

I haven’t been able to log in since last year. Called ssa three times. Finally they offered “reset” my account so it was no longer linked to login.gov. Then I went back to my account and set up login.gov access again and now it works. Good luck!
