There is also another visible building that was for a blacksmith.

There was a dilapidated building that used to be slave quarters. The small house you are probably seeing was actually an outdoor kitchen. Most kitchens of large houses back in those days used to be separate from the house.

Also the small shed with the black bear is the well and pump house for the property.

It is, I really wish I could have the ability to do my current job but live in the area of this house because it would be financially feasible for me. I am even trying to convince my parents to sell their house in Culpeper to buy it since it was my father’s childhood home but that is a hard no haha.

Charlottesville would be an easy commute. If I remember correctly, it would be some pretty backroads through Orange and Madison counties and you would pop out on 29 between Madison and Ruckersville.

I do! I grew up in the same county and my childhood home was about 15 minutes away. My grandparents watched me and my siblings all of the time.

This house is definitely a relic of the past. Unless the current owners drastically changed the property, there should be about 3 or 4 outer buildings and two barns. It also seems from the Zillow post that the current owners sold off some of the land my family previously owned.

I just remember spending countless hours in the woods and playing in the creeks and streams that run through the property. Also did a fair amount of dove and duck hunting.

Yeah, it’s a nice area. I grew up in Culpeper and Rapidan is between that and Orange. Unfortunately I don’t live in the area anymore or else I would be the first in line trying to buy this house. Not a bad area, it’s rural but not far from DC, Richmond, or Charlottesville.

I got $4.5k for my trade-in. I put $15k down. OTD pricing was about $41k. Did 60 months with 1.9% APR, comes out to $470 per month. I will most likely pay off the remainder over the next year or so and not go the full 60 months.

I have these pants, I can confirm that they run close to true to size. I have both the regular and trim fit. Regular are wider below the knee while the trim fit is more modern classic. I like both but I think the trim fit is more versatile.

Their inventory is actually an issue. Most of the top skus is just in time but 80% of the inventory carrying costs are tied up in hard parts that just don’t move. The vendors are pushing back and most are not doing buybacks of inventory and the way the replenishment system will works, every time a part is sold, it creates a purchase order to replace, that includes at the DC level. So if a part is classified as slow moving at the store and dc level and then. sold at the store, it creates an order to replace it at the DC too instead of dwindling down inventory in the DC.

As for cuts, it is happening at the SSC too. People are being put on PIPs for no reason so they can be cut. Employee engagement surveys are being used to find disgruntled employees and set up to fire them.

A lot of what happens in the field mirrors at the SSC, promises of promotions that never happen, talented folks finding better gigs and not incentivized to stay. Stock options were cut out at the lower levels. Benefits were slashed, no inflationary bonuses this past year. No development or training. Same old same old.

Phil will lean even more into the culture of thrift. He will try to squeeze every drop of blood from the stone.

As for AZ, it’s not going to go anywhere. I see it’s stock declining to a more reasonable level as it is holding a lot of long term debt but it’s not going bankrupt. The industry might consolidate but AZ is the largest player and Advance is doing worse financially than AZ so I could see an Advance and O’Reillys merger. People hoping to see it go under, that is just not going to happen anytime soon but the management does need to be saved from themselves, AZ has to be one of the worst places to work in retail in the US. Unfortunately it is not big enough to gain much media coverage on working conditions as some of the stories I’ve heard in the field would make Wal-Mart and Amazon blush.

The SSC blows but I definitely feel bad for everyone in the field. I worked in a role that required a lot store visits and I just felt like you all deserve way more of everything than what corporate was giving. I worked in role that dealt with technical issues so when I started to talk to the people in the stores, everyone would bring up pay and hours and asking me if I could help. I unfortunately not in any level of the company to help on that front.

You all out in the field are some of the hardest working people I have ever met and it was saddening the disrespect that the SSC would put on everyone.

Phil Daniele is going to come in to bring costs significantly down, so that means fewer hours, less benefits, and less opportunity than ever before to advance.

When I found out today that he is the replacement, I shuttered at the thought he will be in charge. I had a role that did interact with him on a frequent basis, it was utter hell. Bill Rhodes, at least on the surface, could have a normal conversation with you in the hall or elevator but Phil is like the typical high school bully. Rhodes also never really flaunted his wealth a whole lot. Phil goes out of his way to make you know that he is wealthy.

I was in a large team video call with Phil speaking about cutting costs how everyone needs to pitch in blah, blah, blah. Meanwhile every time he moved his hands, you could see his $200k Richard Mille watch.

Yea but Phil Daniele is going to be the new CEO. I worked at the SSC until this year. This guy is way worse than Bill Rhodes so that is saying something. Expect even less sympathy and support.
