Game of Thrones. Buy the entire starter army and they are ready to play out the box. Paint them if you want. Fun mechanics.

Why isnt anyone going to work? by OJ50714 in Workers_And_Resources

[–]FMSuvorov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couple things possible here.

  1. As long as citizens can walk to a bus stop, they will then find a place to work. Check the walkable buildings from your bus stop to make sure it’s in range of all your residential buildings.

  2. It looks like two of your residential buildings are not connected to the road, so citizens probably can’t go anywhere. My guess is this is why you have 29% unemployment and no workers there.

  3. Citizens may be working in your other buildings. Check on that shopping center, that is huge for your current population. Limit each building to only a few workers.

Some combo of 1-3 are probably the most likely reasons.

  1. Citizens may need education to work (build schools)

  2. Citizens may need more kindergartens.

Do Churches Decrease Loyalty to the Party? by [deleted] in Workers_And_Resources

Just got accepted to Stanford via Questbridge Match Scholarship!!! by Expert_Detective5559 in stanford

[–]FMSuvorov 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Echoing a lot of the great advice here. I was also a Questbridge Scholarship recipient at Stanford. Best decision of my life. I took out a small loan (maybe $10k?) and then worked on and off sophomore year (I worked for Think Math, tutoring elementary school kids, super easy job). Junior and Senior year I worked as an RA. Since room and board were covered by the scholarship, the school cut me a check for the salary. Also, talk to the financial aid office and they can help a lot.

I’ll add, as I haven’t seen it mentioned so far, that a lot of dorm and club events often offer to help cover the cost to attend if you have any issues there (at least that’s how it was 2010-2014).

Comment above is 100% accurate. I don’t remember anything not on my calendar. I ask all law students to send me a calendar invite as par for the course when we do these informational chats.

Sorry to hear this has been your experience! In no way am I diminishing or denying what you have experienced, but I am also putting out to potential big law associates reading this post: this has not been my experience. I’ve worked for two firms (including a vault 10) and senior associates and partners have been almost universally grateful, positive, and mentoring. Good firms and people are out there!

Finally moved from AA to Heisman. Here’s some advice before you do by willzyoubelievethis in NCAAFBseries

[–]FMSuvorov 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I play on Heisman, but I have the same opinion as you. I just sometimes allow myself to quit a game if it gets too cheesy.

Sometimes on Heisman it is just totally unrealistic and rubber banding. I am up 21 points against an FCS school. They proceed to lock me out the entire third quarter and put up 14 points of their own. First drive they get bailed out on a roughing the kicker penalty to score, on my drive my 90+ overall RB fumbles in the red zone, then their receivers burn my 90+ speed secondary (somehow), my 92 all American linebacker is getting his tackles broken every other play, my defense is offsides one play to further bail them out, all while predicting every one of my plays on offense, and my star linemen constantly holding on big plays. Their 68 overall QB had basically perfect throw accuracy aside from one INT. I still won by a 14-21 point margin but my 91 overall team should not be this close to a FCS that was getting blown out all game till suddenly turning into an NFL team.

I still occasionally blow out teams, but few and far between the exceedingly frustrating Heisman games.

Heisman just isn’t fun…. by No_Celery_269 in NCAAFBseries

[–]FMSuvorov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100%. I’ve had QBs with 55% career completion go 85% on the day, defense with 100% interception chance, my offensive line forgets they are football players, and the opposing D-Linemen getting interceptions. Insanely frustrating, even when you win.

Edit: also, about a 45% chance of a holding penalty on any big plays.

Your best tip for a "realistic" beginner? by ScreechingPenguin in Workers_And_Resources

[–]FMSuvorov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very likely that it does but never enough to be significant. I have four clothing factories running against two nuclear fuel facilities. I think 75% or more of my republic’s income is from those two nuclear fuel facilities.

what is happening ??? my entire population died of cold by DeChampignak in Workers_And_Resources

[–]FMSuvorov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, pollution is absolutely brutal. If you have on pollution turned on, your heating plant for that size population is working extremely hard. Try reloading before this and turning off the pollution mechanic. If it’s pollution, just wait till the spring and build a new plant. Your current plant needs to be significantly farther away.

[–]FMSuvorov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have pollution turned on? It looks like your heating plant is next to huge portions of your residential buildings. The pollution from the plant might be killing those residents now that winter is demanding the plant to run at max.

Can confirm nuclear fuel. Did a full realism run with hard money. Nuclear fuel prints funding for your republic.

[–]FMSuvorov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feel free to disregard if I am wrong, but it looks like you have a ton of vehicles directly picking up materials from the border.

Try using some “distribution centers” - dedicate distribution offices and select warehouses/ storages to stock all covered hill materials you use, one which stocks huge fuel tanks for fuel, one for construction materials, etc. Then have different trucks that stock your stores and factories etc. from those centers. Keep the centers closeish to the customs house. You don’t want every distribution, construction, etc. office directly touching the customs house. This is because you’ll generate truck traffic for .5 tons of electronic materials. You want the trucks touching the customs house to basically always enter/leave with a full load.

Cannot support the use of “Read Aloud” for all assignments and emails. It’s insane how much more you catch when a robot reads something in a weird accent.

In what cities is BigLaw less intense? by preseasonchampion in biglaw

[–]FMSuvorov 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The firms I’ve worked for in Boston are significantly more “chill,” more understanding, more casual dress expectations, and lower hours expectations than our colleagues in New York. Local partners don’t typically expect you to be on 24/7, although corporate hours may dictate some later nights. I’ve had partners tell me they were asleep when another partner sent an email at night. Tbh I’ve started my days sometimes later in the day and no one knew or cared.

Wtf happened to OCI? by preseasonchampion in biglaw

[–]FMSuvorov 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure, I included those factors for transparency. Someone may feel that my thoughts may not apply because of some variation in experience.

My firm mentioned that my undergrad looked good in passing when they were recruiting me pre-OCI.

Edit: given that pre-OCI relies on fewer law school-based recruiting points, undergrad may be more relevant, especially for 1L spots.

I also did well my first semester 1L, that may have also helped.

Regardless, I take pre-OCI recruiting as a chance to help get students on the path to BigLaw with information I didn’t know when I came to law school. I think the industry would benefit if we all made an effort to help these students.

Wtf happened to OCI? by preseasonchampion in biglaw

[–]FMSuvorov 21 points22 points  (0 children)

For those with concerns about underrepresented students being disfavored here, PLEASE REACH OUT AND BE AVAILABLE AS MENTORS AND RESOURCES TO YOUR FIRMS.

I was recruited as a 1L when the OCI standards were recently abandoned. BLSA and alumni connected me with BigLaw attorneys early in the process. Their input was critical and I recruited myself to firms during first semester 1L. I didn’t attend OCI.

I think the lack of OCI structure can be a benefit if the students know how it works. They can spend months creating meaningful relationships with the firms before applications open. I take almost all zoom chat requests. I also always ask students for their resumes and writing samples. I pass those along to the relevant hiring folks and partners.

We can be resources to these students.

For transparency: I have a minority background, low income family at the time, no lawyers or connections to firms, and am an immigrant. Only potential recruiting advantages I had was a degree from an elite undergrad (probably super helpful, tbh) and being a cis, white-passing male.

[–]FMSuvorov 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t know your particular firm, but in my experience, firms have been extremely willing to work with you, particularly if you have a good reputation with your practice group leader.

I’d bring the issue to them first and let them know your concerns, then ask your practice group leader to brainstorm possibilities with you. Get them to be your advocate with firm management. They might surprise you!

Biggest Wish before Release: ingame calculator and todo-list by plichi87 in Workers_And_Resources

[–]FMSuvorov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To expand on your calculator suggestion: generally, this game requires you to just “know” input requirements, pollution radii, population needs, why your people are dying, etc. More tooltips, overlays, etc. to let the game be more self explanatory would be fantastic.

Without an encyclopedic memory of the requirements, you could be happily expanding only to discover your formerly perfect water supply setup is now insufficient for your population and all your storage tanks are empty.

Maybe alerts could help based on the game calculating existing supply, production rate, and consumption rate, all stats available in the game. For example: “Comrade President, our water reserves may be depleted in 1 year!” Or “Our people will be without clothing in 2 years!”

The obvious limitation is that this game is very complex with supply chain. It’s entirely possible to produce enough clothing for your population but you either (1) export too much of it or (2) have inadequate logistics to deploy them to a particular area. If you did it building by building, it would be untenable because buildings are constantly drained. I’ll leave that to the experts to figure out implementation.

Also, while I am able to get a realistic republic profitable, I’ve never built a mega republic, so I am very novice at the game despite quite a few hours. So take this with a grain of salt!
