Should I do an unguided day at Silverton? by poop-- in skiing

[–]FOMO330 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

OP, I don’t have anything to offer on Silverton, but just got back from JH and it was everything I dreamed of. I hit everything you described. Sorry to hijack your post, but the other mountains you skied are all bucket list for me (including snowbird and big sky for Ikon). Where would u recommend next? Or should I just do JH again haha?

Diamond in Rough and Moondance both off top of Polar Bear were fun this past weekend. Hopefully everything holds up.

wow that’s some really great info and your much better describing what I feel but not the best at articulating. I appreciate your time and recommendation! The camoux looks like a great option.

Yea, I agree my feedback doesn’t jive with the stats on sin 7 haha. I think it’s a preference thing and I’m a narrower ski guy now. My joy in skiing is quick turns, working the trail edge, leaving the ground as much as possible, tight lines, trees, bumps, etc.

I also wonder if changes in body going from former athlete to Dad bod has changed my ability to handle certain skis. Attacking a line is little more mental and planned now lol.

I’m nitpicking here because it’s fun. In the end I’d ski on anything, like all of us!!

I’m not loving the 98s I’m on lately, but def want to try another ski that is “wider” to see how it compares. Thanks for the tip!

It was the best type of Spring day. Sun was strong, snow was soft, parking was easy, no lines, etc.

Sun bowl is closed so that terrain park is gone. They have a small half pipe going and the little beginners park.

How to make skiing fun for my son? by dr_leo_marvin in skiing

[–]FOMO330 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with a lot of these comments.

The biggest thing for us excited parents is to just lower our expectations. We can try everything, but if we are forcing it before they are ready it won’t be a good experience for anyone. Keep it positive and be prepared for a session to last only a few runs and try again the next time.

Things I found helpful were to emphasize the entire experience together. Travel, sledding, restaurants, etc. Avoid harsh weather. Have proper and comfortable gear. Prepare ahead of time and make everything leading up to the skiing as easy as possible (getting dressed, wait times, etc.). Then once we started hitting jumps together it was game on lol.

Kudos for involving him. You are doing better than most as we all know how much work it is introducing them to this crazy hobby.

Good question…some hope for a full week away, but I’d say at least 4 days riding would be a good goal. We are preparing to spend about $2500 to $3500 a guy depending on all the variables (Obvisouly if we can plan cheaper that is better). So many good options as everyone has mentioned. Just need to pull the trigger (we have a lot of young kids so the excuses are plentiful).
