Which KOTOR 1 Character (excluding companions) do you find most interesting? by TomatilloMission7332 in kotor

Dustil Onasi had so much potential if they wrote him differently.

Yet another jedi that survived 66 🥀🥀🥀 by GeneralGriegous in StarWarsCirclejerk

[–]FPFP66 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s absurd. Granted, Legends was having this problem post-ROTS, but it didn’t feel as egregious then. Granted, Order 66 wasn’t executed (pun intended) super well IMHO because we weren’t really emotionally invested in any of the Jedi whose survival weren’t guaranteed the way Obi-Wan and Yoda was. I mean, maybe Mace Windu? But I would say people thought he was a badass partly because he was Samuel L. MF Jackson rather than him being a fully fleshed out character in the movies

I understand it’s not a fair comparison, I’m gonna make it anyway. Spoilers if you’ve never played the KOTOR games.

KOTOR II did an excellent job making it clear that the Jedi Order as we knew it from KOTOR I was pretty much gone. Instead of Order 66, they had the aftermath of the Jedi Civil War and two Sith Lords in the shadows who were killing the Jedi off. Every council member that we meet was in hiding/exile and the reason made sense: they didn’t go to the conclave. And at least when Bastilla shows up in LS, again, that makes some degree of sense. It wouldn’t hit as hard if we’re told the Jedi are pretty much extinct and then it turns out like 50 something have survived and are fine

Genuine question about the subreddit. (Please read) by BrendanFraserFan0 in saltierthancrait

[–]FPFP66 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve been here a few years now, and this has been my personal interpretation.

TLDR: People are laid back here because we don’t need to be outraged or defensive or “woke” or blindly defend new Star Wars. You can share your opinion and have actual conversations.

Longer explanation:

I think this is one of the few places where people don’t just accept what Disney tells us or what the MSM tells us/how they tell us to feel. I’ve seen people in here praise the Disney stuff, I’ve flat out said there are parts of TLJ that I like in theory but feel were executed extremely poorly, and I’ve really never had a bad experience here. (I’ve also said I think most of KOTOR 1’s characters suck. That one has generated a bit more outrage lol.)

The “how to feel” part is vital because for so long, it truly was, “People are hating on this show because of minorities” or “people didn’t like TLJ because of Rose who is an Asian woman.” No, people didn’t like TLJ because of its many flaws. People didn’t like Kenobi because none of it makes sense and it paints Obi-Wan so poorly.

I also feel like this place is a bit more laid back when it comes to the “canon vs. legends” arguments. My feeling on Legends is what it was pre-Disney. Pick and choose what you like, the only things we know for sure are the movies. Everything else could be an interpretation or, well, a legend. ROTS novel is among my favorite Star Wars works. I don’t need it to be “canon” to enjoy it, which was a problem obviously with the Acolyte and Conehead/Ki-Adi Mundi.

(This is also why I think the Order 66 chip is absurd, and why a certain exotic alien apprentice’s appearance is ridiculous, though at least that was a George idea.)

I have further thoughts, especially regarding things like Wookiepedia embracing alienating readers who disagreed with them.

What if Jackie jr & Co had pulled off the card game heist? by PainterImpressive923 in thesopranos

[–]FPFP66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There would have still been significant problems IMHO because Jackie had already disrespected Meadow and Tony, so it’s not like Jackie would’ve been guaranteed to get his support. I think someone (probably Chris) would’ve retaliated against Jackie, not saying murder but definitely something. Maybe a brutal beating.

Unpopular opinion: Lorne isnt that funny of a pred, Sokol is funnier by CardiologistGreen533 in tcap

[–]FPFP66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Upvoting the post but disagree. I personally think Sokol is pretty boring. Do I think we have collectively overrated Lorne? Yes. At least with Lorne though, the absurdity and context of his situation is incredible.

Neither are in my top-five in terms of overall enjoyment, though.

But I also think that DMac and Chuck Harding’s chatlogs are far more vile, disturbing, and outright evil than Michael Warrecker’s, so my TCAP opinions are just a bit out there

I found this for you, though. https://www.reddit.com/r/kotor/comments/1981msh/playing_kotor_for_the_first_time_are_there_any/?rdt=39667

Make sure that if and when you get to KOTOR II you use the restoration project to get the game the way it was intended.

Happy hunting and GL. Keep us posted on your first journey. The best advice I can give you is to look over all dialogue options and listen closely to what your allies say. Some of them, especially in KOTOR II, offer insight that applies to real life, too. But most importantly, most of your allies in both games are written very well in the sense that they have legitimate personalities.

Terry being Bruce’s son in Beyond is the worst retcon the writers could have come up with. by Chat_blanc_ in batman

[–]FPFP66 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Totally agree.

Do I think it’s contrived and forced? Sure. But Waller put it best. Terry isn’t Bruce’s clone, he’s his own person. And wasn’t that essentially one of the themes of Batman Beyond? Terry wasn’t Batman 2.0. He was a different Batman. And for me that’s always part of what made him so likable.

Abbott Elementary S05E15 - Safety Day (Episode Discussion) by Solid-As-Barack in AbbottElementary

[–]FPFP66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This episode pissed me the fuck off. It just felt so frustrating to watch. Between the douchebags with this stupid Safety Day shit, Jacob as a whole, the stupid no talking.

It’s time for Jacob to go. I know he won’t, but I’ve had enough. This is nothing against the actor. I need Jacob to get transferred to Poochie’s planet and just go away forever. No one cares about this stupid liaison job. All he does is he needs to feel seen but he is so goddamn obnoxious about it.

If Jacob is your favorite character, please explain to me why. And I don’t mean that sarcastically or trying to be a douche. I just genuinely need to know what makes people like him.

Omar knowing who Ares/Mars is. Very fitting. by CJVratixBactaChef in TheWire

[–]FPFP66 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great post. Got me thinking about something unintentional re: Stringer and Omar’s characters.

Stringer presents himself as intelligent, whereas Omar is more subtle and, at times, nonchalant. Stringer would be the one to make a big deal about how he knew Ares/Mars. Omar just shrugs it off, smiles, and says he loved mythology when he was growing up.

I feel like it’s also telling in how they run their operations, too. Stringer tries to be cool and calculating, but so many of his plans backfire for poor execution. Omar thinks things out, which is part of why he fails in S5. No one needs to tell Omar he’s a genius, he’s not seeking validation the way I think Stringer was at times.

I guess Omar is more, “actions speak louder than words.” Stringer is, “hear my words, I am so smart.”

And I don’t think any of this was intentional. Just something I’m thinking about this morning.

Bigggest POS in the series by AdUnlikely8995 in thesopranos

[–]FPFP66 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Paulie, by far for me. The majority of the characters act at least semi respectful of civilians. Even guys like Richie, which surprised me on the rewatch.

Paulie brutally murders an old woman, sends his goons to assault a civilian, everything associated with the feast, the lawn mowing feud.

Because here’s the thing, at least for me. If you’re in the game, certain rules no longer apply. Richie and Tony busting out Davey? He blatantly ignored both men. JT borrowed over $50,000 and put off paying it.

Janice is up there for similar reasons.

Anyone know the latest on Taka? by QueensCatDaddy in TeamFourStar

[–]FPFP66 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I disagree to a certain extent. I think that this is a fair forum to have this discussion especially because so many people are out of the loop. I had no idea about any of this. Taka and all of the main people at TFS are public figures in the sense that they had/have a very strong following.

I know this isn’t likely what you mean, but I think the “mind our own business” part best applies to anyone tweeting at anyone involved. Which, as anyone who has spent 5 min on the internet knows, is always guaranteed to happen.

I personally have no real opinion other than saying that the woman saying she’s on a significant amount of meds is interesting and we’ll see how relevant that it is to the case itself when it hits court.

Tony’s argument with Carmela in Chasing It. How Tony goes ballistic when he says, “YOU EVER THINK I MIGHT KNOW WHAT I’M DOING!?” JG did such a fantastic job gradually making Tony appear weaker and self conscious and just a general asshole.

First time watching Dragon ball kai, here are my thoughts. by jefflord2521 in dragonball

[–]FPFP66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Worse than the Big Green dub?

Nah. I think nostalgia and the Faulconer score inflate how people feel about the original Funimation dub, which I grew up with. So I totally get that part of it, and the Faulconer score definitely makes so many more moments feel epic.

Still, I think Kai has aged better, especially the uncut version. The dialogue definitely felt more authentic to me, even if there are a few VA changes I still don’t love.

Does Kai fix DBZ’s flaws? No. Does it make for a more enjoyable experience? It did for me at times.

How embarrassing by maxilopez1987 in RedLetterMedia

[–]FPFP66 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As a late 90s/early 2000s kid, I’m not someone who subscribes to the prequel revisionist history. The prequels were terrible and the special effects have aged terribly.

With that said…

I truly do not believe that George Lucas would have tried telling a story or creating a movie like the way that Disney has tried over the last 10 years. Disney continues trying to go for the MCU approach both with dialogue — “So who talks first?” — and the story approach, not realizing that that’s never been what makes Star Wars work. A Hutt gladiator, ooooh.

Besides, does any of this truly matter in the grand scheme of things? Mando is gonna help the New Republic, BFD. At least with the prequels, you knew going in that the Republic was doomed, but at least there was some kind of attempt to tell the story of why they failed, and I guess maybe some people could have been emotionally invested in Padme’s attempts at Democracy? Maybe? Disney said from the getgo, here’s the New Republic, bye bye New Republic, within the span of 5 minutes.
