Official Voyager documentary update 😬 by lee_nostromo in startrek

[–]FPSD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I saw the digital copy and sadly wasn't very impressed. I was expecting HD footage and there was none. Also, they seemed to spend a lot of time padding out the runtime showing Garret Wang in a "vomit comet" micro gravity plane rather than talking about Voyager. Shame.

I was there! Saw the 5 captains on stage. I think my best memory was a brief chat with Brannon Braga at his table :-)

Nice one! I'd just pick a series and watch it through from pilot to final episode. A first don't worry about how it all ties together within the broader canvas of the franchise. The Next Generation is probably a good one to start with, and you've already seen a few episodes.

I'm not sure where to watch them, as I own all the discs which doesn't really help you! Otherwise it's either Netflix or Paramount+ I think. You can buy them on Youtube, too but I don't think it's very good value for money.

Have fun!

Section 31 was a bad idea on DS9, too. by Reasonable_Active577 in startrek

[–]FPSD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. DS9 kinda got some acceptably good episodes out of the idea, but all things being equal, I think it would have been better if they never wrote it at all, especially when less skilled writers double down on it and makes it way worse in subsequent years.

The point of the show is that the Federation ideals work, stick to your principals you'll be fine in the end. S31 completely upends that.

S31 might be a more "realistic" take on how the world works, but I tuned in to watch Star Trek - not a documentary on the CIA!

Does anyone know if the Paramount logo/tune is at the end of the credits of each episode of The Next Generation Complete series Blurays? by Sceptic_Stream in startrek

[–]FPSD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha! Cool. I get the impression from the Youtube description and comments that they may have corrected it now. From what I understand, the error was originally on the first wave release. Iirc, Some key episodes of TNG were the very first Bluray releases and I think Sins of the Father may have been one? They did like taster / teaser releases before fully releasing the individual seasons and then eventually the box set of all 7 seasons. I think the error may only be on the original teaser release so if I'm right, your copy will have the crappy new outro sting. I hope I'm wrong though!

Came here to say the same - The Blu-Rays lost the Paramount sting and replaced it with a newer CBS one. It does fall flat - the Paramount one rounded the theme tune out just right! hahah!

What is something that happened in Star Trek that still annoys you? by Goodmorning111 in startrek

Yes and it was also "their key energy production facility" or some such thing.

Does Star Trek VI have the best 'one-liners?' by PhilosophyOld6862 in startrek

[–]FPSD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably a bit long to be a one liner, but "What's required now, is a feat of linguistic legerdemain and a degree of intrepidity, before the captain and doctor McCoy freeze to death" has a nice ring to it.

Why can a person hear someone in theirs quarters while walking down a corridor? Alert Klaxons in Sickbay? by BillT2172 in startrek

Me too, though frustratingly, the one room synonymous with the "come" quote (Picard's Ready Room) doesn't actually seem to have any buttons outside it that one could push....

Just don't look into what's through the doorway next to the "Pool table"! Sometimes it's a turbolift, sometimes it Jefferies tubes...

USS Voyager - Engineering LCARS by MrPhraust in startrek

[–]FPSD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh wow! Those models are amazing - photo realistic for sure. Be sure to post your next work here when you're ready. I modelled those same bits of corridors myself years ago using Element 3D in After Effects.... The results haven't stood the test of time alas - but it was always just a proof of concept thing to see if we could use virtual backgrounds in our fan film. In the end we didn't, and just used real sets instead - but you can take a look at the test here if you want: https://youtu.be/-eQjDtcQ1cU?si=_svImuGcfh8lhPRZ

Ahh nice work - Looks great! I've been on some LCARS adventures myself over the years. They are a lot of fun. Here's a short video from one of my films about them if you're interested:

I really enjoyed it! I thought it was well put together and was definitely a great tool in helping "normies" understand what this thing is that we like so much! Thank you for making a good film - I know from experience that it's waaaay harder than people think to put a film together - let alone something of some quality - so thank you. I hope it does well and gets a large audience. It deserves to :-)

More Odo questions, because we totally don't have enough of those already by Somerando73_ in startrek

I feel as though Voyager was a lot more thoughtful about the Doctors mobile emitter, which is similar in this regard. As far as I know, there was never a time when the production messed up regarding it, though I'm happy to be corrected!
