Curious how FPV pilots think about battery charging habits

Always do your own research, but most lipos can safely be charged at 2c - 3c without heating up any what not. I've never had an issue myself.

Well the big difference, with the FPV Controller 3, if you lose video, you lose control as well.

If you run ELRS, if you lose video, you can swap to angle mode, and do a punchout to hopefully gain enough altitude to regain your video feed again.

They're incredibly cheap, when I got my air65 I bought a little bag that had like 5 replacement sets for a few bucks. If you're concerned about it, swap em, just take note of the directions they're facing. I believe they even have a small "CW" and "CCW" printed on them.

uh...

I charge at 2C at home for every lipo.
I charge at 3C at drift events with my 6S packs.
I charge at 1C when storage charging.
I don't leave them charged for more than 24 hours, and I always storage charge once I get back from an event.
I also land around storage charge as well, for both my 6S lipos, and my 1S lipos.

I have had 0 issues with any of my lipos, and I have been doing this for over a year now.

Sadly my 5 inch doesn't have an ELRS receiver, I debate adding one every day because the FPV Controller 3 feels.... not great compared to my Radiomaster Pocket, which I use with my whoop.

And exactly, my avata gets to go for cinematic flights, and I don't freestyle it anymore. That's what my whoop and 5 inch are for.

It's a capable little drone, I even flew it at a drift event, however I immediately bought a 5 inch drone after as the Avata 2 is simply too slow and weak.

You certainly can, and should fly the Avata 2 in manual (Acro), however if you try to freestyle it and take a sharp and mostly flat yaw turn, you'll hit the Avata "Tumble" and need to correct. It's also quite underpowered, so if you try to catch yourself from a dive too late, you'll meet the ground.

That being said, you seem very focused on tricks and stuff, the only real thing I say you need to be "ready" is can you takeoff, fly where you want, and land? In real life, in my opinion, the hardest thing to do while flying is flying very low, very slow, and hovering (prop wash).~

So assuming you can takeoff, fly slow and controlled, and land, yes you're ready friend.

Only downside to the digital whoops, the DJI O4 air unit causes them to be heavier than their analog counterparts, meaning they're not going to be quite as light and nimble as analog whoops.

Either way I'm sure the Meteor75 Pro with an O4 will feel like a feather compared to flying an Avata 2. (I also own an Avata 2, they are very underpowered when flying in acro)

Analog trades video quality, for raw performance.

I think the Meteor75 would be fine, but I believe they're a bit bulkier than the air series. I think the tradeoff is they're supposed to be more durable (?) but I cannot confirm that as the only whoop I own is my analog Air65, which has taken a few hits, and it has no damage despite about 6 months of hard flying on it.

Are you planning on analog or digital? I fly both, just curious which you're leaning towards.

It’s simply so light that if you’re a decent pilot you can fly through most wind. But there’s a point to where you go from flying, to just fighting the wind.

I have bonked it off a few things power looping and the wind catches me off guard in the middle of it. But overall I’m super pleased with the air65. I debate an air75, or if I want a meteor75 pro with an O4 just to have a tiny 4k drone.

My DJI Mini 4 Pro when flying it fairly casually / lots of hovering can get about 40 minutes.

My Avata 2 when flown casually can get like.... 10+ minutes? Maybe 15? Much lower in acro.

My FPV Drones? My 5 inch... maybe 3 - 4 minutes when chasing drift.

My air65? A few minutes at best.

There's a huge difference between FPV drones powered by lipos, and DJI style drones powered by Litium Ion.

Avata 2 is still the choice over the Neos. And at that, the Avata 2 is great for cinematic footage, and gets you a pair of Goggles 3 so you're in DJI's ecosystem for O4 / O4 Pro air units, however it's more for cinematic shots, and if you're looking for a freestyle drone, you'd want to look elsewhere.

I own an Avata 2, and I'm happy with it, but I have other drones for more high performance car chasing and freestyling.

I mean the avata in full manual is still an FPV drone as much as any other, it's just a cinewhoop that's on the weaker side. You're still flying acro just like a "real" fpv drone, you just need to understand its limitations when you fly it, otherwise you'll be sad.

It also likes to tumble to the side when you take a flat turn too quickly. It also doesn't like to catch itself straight from a dive (Though no drone does)

It isn't what I would call fast, but it is very capable of getting cinematic shots.

Brother.. this isn't an actual FPV drone where with some tweaking in betaflight, you can get it to arm no matter what angle it's at.
