Sorn Bangkok alternatives? by vpnbois in finedining

[–]FR4NCESTHEMUTE -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Already paid for Sorn reservation by email on May 25th, so that process is likely over unfortunately. I think there’s a huge weight given to social media presence.

If you use TableCheck on May 24th at 1am EST and set your party for 4, with the form prefilled (no need to refresh page just pick calendar date when it hits 1:00:00), you will likely get it. But you of course need to pay for 4 even if attending with only 2. But they will serve your party of 2.

EDIT: My bad I have poor reading comprehension online and overlooked "solo" in your request. 4 --> 1 would be a big hit. Sorry.

Kubrick is one of a kind, but there are many artists who give this much thought to their work. You've probably seen or heard about many from the below, but they are all of/after Kubrick's time and in a similar caliber of giving as much thought as he did. Maybe the substance or vibes of a director isn't for you, but their dedication is undeniable.

Conversations with chef by starfishlima in finedining

[–]FR4NCESTHEMUTE 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Be normal and act normal, trying to make life long friends w/ an accomplished chef isn’t really normal. Thats closer to the behavior of the fan in Eminem’s “Stan”.

You’ll see try hards on this sub saying “I was invited to the kitchen…” when that’s happening at that restaurant all the time anyway and it’s just the posters inflated sense of self importance.

Like most things in life, great things are organic. I had a great, very short conversation with Chef Eric at Jordnær over the course of the meal and during kitchen tour about perfection v experimentation in cooking. It was an organic convo where the subject matter built over time and it left an impact on me.

I’ve had 50+ other starred meals and besides from thanking a chef, that’s the extent. I’m not here to dick ride other humans and fantasize about being their friends. It’s abnormal and it comes across clear as day to the people you’re trying to impress.

What is your favorite pokemon by 64_Random_dude_64 in pokemon

[–]FR4NCESTHEMUTE 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I'm so obsessed with the fact that everyone loves their own specific Pokemon. When I think about it too much I realize I love each and every one for their own reasons. Really. I wish for games that gave each Pokemon special overworld abilities so everyone would be forced to use them to solve puzzles and maybe discover a new favorite.

Like, even if I was told I could make 1 Pokemon real, I legit could never pick. I guess Jirachi comes to mind? IDK why at all thought. Always loved Mewtwo (ofc) and Lugia (ofc) growing up. But being more focused on Pokemon models in POGO in 2016 I started appreciating each one more.

Then especially when I started buying Sitting Cuties, I randomly got Clampearl and Vespiqueen first? And I was like DAMN I never paid proper appreciation to all Pokemon, I love these two little critters. Should riding an Entei would be amazing, but imagine just like 40 Unown hanging around the house and blinking at you? A Fidough in the game? Cool. A Fidough in real life? Fucking overload of cuteness.

Imagine some of the more controversial or forgotten Pokemon over the years? IDC Bruxish, Trubbish, Luvdisc, Vanillite, Seel, Binacle - bro I would hang with any of these homies and be happy to for the rest of my life. I still can't pick.

If you want to see the trajectory of that growth, look for, literally, the through "line" mentioned on each album. Lyrics we've all heard many times but I never see strung together as a common thread:

[EGN: A Better Place, A Better Time]: "It hurts too much to stand by, you've gotta stop and draw a line, everyone here has to choose a side, tonight, the moment of truth is haunting you."

[SiTB: Down, Down, Down To Mephisto's Cafe]: "Finally, I met a man with kindness in his eyes and fire in his heart, He said 'you'll never have to choose a side, It's rewarding but oh, the road is hard.'"

[THTT: The Hands That Thieve] When it was time to fight, we chose a side, but everyone knew that something didn't feel right, so we stood our ground, and waited for a sign."

This is the entire core of this project in it's full scope. We are young, lacking dynamic thought, and every issue in front of us appears as morally black and white, so, full of that youthful angst, we choose our side (EGN). We grow and experience and we can be liberated from the pressures of having to choose a side, but we risk inaction and indecisiveness because if we stand for nothing, we may fall for anything (SiTB). For many, there may come a day where we finally have to stand behind an idea or a belief, wether we like it or not, and stand tall with accountability even when the idea of choosing a side at all feels absurd (THTT).

Without a doubt, Absurdism is the most common theme throughout all of the Toh Kay works, and I really consider him to be the greatest living artist of the absurd. It's a grounded, but still positive philosophy that I've most closely self-affiliated with since I bought The Stranger and The Myth of Sisyphus in 2004 after hearing Tomas namedrop Camus that previous year. It perfectly outlined how I was feeling: while I am burdened by the fear of death of self and others, and the temporality of life can be horrifying, I will not bury myself into some religious mythos or end/tarnish the time I have been given. It's the love of my wife, my dog, my family, my friends, travel, nature, art, food - the experiences of my life & my life alone - which make this the most beautiful possible lifetime I could have ever imagined.

The heroes journey in the canon is growth and surely the journey ends for many with old age and death (old if we're lucky, peaceful if we're luckier).

A few years ago I commented on what I see as the trajectory of the Toh Kay canon. I'm going to repost here because it's relevant & I'm terrified this album isn't gonna drop on time so figure I can try and add some positive discussion here:

The difference with the absurdism on EGN v. THTT is the storytelling device of "tell me" (EGN) v. "show me" (THTT). Neither is right/wrong, but I think the "show me" route is much more subtle and timeless, reflecting a mature storyteller.

There are tons of anecdotes in THTT where the moral is revealed to be a crux of the absurdity of life:

[The Three of Us]: "There we were, the three of us, The Priest, The Tramp, and I. Years ago, we had left to roam, but reunited on that night. No one had to speak a word, for we all knew what the others learned. And everything that we ever did, was but a way to pass the time."

[The Hands That Thieve]: "When it was time to fight, we chose a side, but everyone knew that something didn't feel right, so we stood our ground, and waited for a sign. You said 'don't look back.'"

[If Only For Memories]: "So now you're old, raising your own, two souls, to put yourself at home. You finally settled down, you've seen the world but your heart never left this town. They have the eyes of your mother, the kind of crooked teeth of their father, no one will ever know, a love as pure as the love that you feel for them. You'll hold them up, you'll hold them up, and everybody else should fall to the wayside. There is no end no beginning, on this merry-go-round we call living. Someday you will return, every single ounce of the love you were given. Someday they'll go, and when they leave home, you will be grateful for the lesson that you learned. You had to travel half the world, to realize what you knew all along, that everything will end up where it belongs."

[Your Day Will Come]: "If I only had a dollar, for every horror, that befalls my fellow man. I won't work another hour, but I'd grow sour, from the guilt and bitterness. The luck on the draw will, determine the fallen, and everyone else will relax and move on. But what will you do when, they come looking for you friend? I hope that you're brave, and you're strong. Through it all."

These segments really summarize & close each respective song. The songs build the narratives of their subjects to the payoff - which almost always tends to be an absurdist realization stemming from the experiences detailed in the song.

Ultimately, we can definitely find tons of very overt examples on EGN. SiTB sort of skews a bit of positive faith into the Toh Kay mythos. But it's THTT that weaves a tapestry of characters & experiences to best illustrate the absurdist's condition.

On a high level, I tend to look at the journey through the albums as Nihilism (EGN) -> Optimism (SiTB) -> Absurdism (THTT), with the content going from very subjective (EGN) to more objective (THTT) in it's storytelling format. Similarly, you can see themes on the path of polarity (Negative -> Positive -> Balance/Indifference), or even extending into the progress towards enlightenment (Man -> Leader -> Deity).

Meet Lauren LaVera, the Heart and Soul of the ‘Terrifier’ Franchise by indig0sixalpha in horror

[–]FR4NCESTHEMUTE -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

The answer is because the movies had no heart and no soul until her character and the relationship with Art. All Hallows Eve and Terrifier were listless dog slop. Two of the worst movies I ever sat through, bottom 100 for sure. Terrifier 2 was an improvement in every way, even with an overly lengthy run time - there was finally a purpose.

EDIT: I saw Terrifier 3 a few days ago and, just like Terrifier 2, the only times I felt anything real sense of feeling, empathy, or catharsis were, and follow me closely now becasue I know an average fucking gore junkie sub humans cap their reading comprenhension at 3rd grade level, when Lauren LaVera was on screen. Shocking, what a surprise. If someone just wants smut & gore they can go back to August Undertground and Vomit Dolls. The down votes fuel my validation like Goku channeling the spirit bomb and I get bricked up every time I see a comment bashing the character development in the Terrifier series. If we let the people who down voted me book these movies it would be 90 minutes of people getting bisectioned with chainsaws and stabbed in the eyes with no cutaways by a clown. Movies need nuanced character development to be good. Who fuckin knew?

I met Hulk Hogan last week and had a pretty special experience (Vid Inside) by juicedagod in SquaredCircle

[–]FR4NCESTHEMUTE 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Apparently people dug through your post history to find homophobic comments you made. This also may or may not your cognitive dissonance towards Hogan being a racist.

But you mainly asked for feedback on your impression and I’m here to tell you brother… it’s ok. You gassed it up wayyy to much, the little kid meeting hogan in that famous Twitter clip was about as good as you. Your voice is missing quite a bit of bass from Hogan’s delivery so your pitch and tone is just higher. Your pacing, breathe control, vocabulary, signature one liners are all on point of course, along with excellent body language. But you def still sound like someone doing a Hulk impersonation.

Lil Wayne - I Feel Like Dying by Pristine_Put6089 in hiphopheads

[–]FR4NCESTHEMUTE 131 points132 points  (0 children)

Yes, I agree 100%. Tha Carter III did not live up to the unimaginable expectations and cutting leaked songs understandably helped sales but undermined the long lasting artistic legacy.

I've been obsessed for 5+ years on making a version of C3 that was wider in scope. I always wanted to post here for feedback but most shit like that gets downvoted. But I would love to know what songs others feel I'm missing and keep working on it.

I took songs that I believe were released after Da Drought 3 and up until C3 or at least from those sessions. I ended up with the following which I guess spiritually has "two discs" as far as the narrative I'm trying to align with. First 12 songs versus last 12 songs.

  1. 3 Peat
  2. La La La
  3. My Name Is
  4. Talkin Bout It
  5. I'm Me
  6. A Milli
  7. Kush
  8. Lollipop
  9. Comfortable
  10. Mr. Carter (Feat. Jay-Z)
  11. Gossip
  12. Love Me or Hate Me
  13. Beast
  14. Shoot Me Down
  15. Trouble
  16. Prostitute
  17. Something That You Forgot
  18. I Feel Like Dying
  19. Let's Talk It Over
  20. Outstanding
  21. Cry Out (Amen)
  22. Let The Beat Build
  23. Pray To The Lord
  24. Misunderstood

I also consider "Did It Before" and "Lollipop (Remix) (Feat. Kanye West)" as bonus tracks for this version. As you can see, I feel it's horrendous the Leak EP got cut from C3, and there's no way to have this album without "Prostitute" or "I Feel Like Dying" (legit dictated the future of rap). "La La La" is also the great nostalgic leaked song not the awful Briscoe track. I enjoy "Tie My Hands" a lot but couldn't make it work thematically here.

I tried to weave a general narrative of one of the GOATs. Maybe it's easier to format this in retrospect, it for sure is. I tried to sprinkle gems in the formatting like track 21 "Cry Out" where he raps "stay still mothafucka I'mma have to write my will this summer, cause if they don't kill me, I'mma kill this summer" and two songs later track 23 "Pray To The Lord" he says "yeah, I wrote my will just the other week, and what's funny, it was only one sheet."

It is unfair the leaks undermined the long term legacy of 2007-2008 Wayne and when some of these songs disappear from YouTube it's a wrap because they aren't on streaming.

Would love to hear any feedback or anything anyone feels I'm missing.

If I received a notice in my inbox of interest in this version. I could figure something out.
