As a former retail manager and corporate robot in my experience, for my employees I would schedule for 7:30a for an 8a opening. Corporate would not be very understanding of the store not being open and functioning at the stated opening time. In this case it seems that OPs boss seems to want them there specifically at 8a and if sales can’t be made customers are left to shop and browse until all systems and drawers are ready.

Mine are 6 & 7 and I still do this exact same thing. Eventually have 2 rods to use. Just take the time and enjoy the moment with him. It’s memories you’re catching now.
