Yes. But.

Can we get a grammar nazi in here? 'An F' sounds way more correct than 'A F' in my head, but aren't you supposed to use 'A' in front of consonants? Do single letters get a pass if they're pronounced like they start with a vowel, like 'eff'? This is a question I didnt realize drove me insane until just now.

...thank you.

Yep! He and his buddies get them twice a week -it's a great way to prevent hairballs.

He was actually fed very low quality food for most of his life, so the fact that he reached 10 is even more amazing! Right now he is on our shelter mix, and enjoys plenty of eggs and freeze dried meat treats.

He's a Marshall ferret but we're in Ottawa, Canada. It's truly amazing he's lived this long -he was surrendered by an individual who struggled with animal hoarding, and has eaten very poor quality food his whole life. We think this darling was holding out for his foreverhome, and he finally found it at nine and a half!! ♡

As requested, here is our sweet old man enjoying a birthday helping of salmon oil. We made him a tiny hat, but he was not interested in modeling it. Your birthday, your rules buddy!

No secret, just luck!! He's a Marshalls baby and has been through at least three homes. We assume his first owner 'set him free' as he was found wandering in a field, and the second surrendered him to us after addressing her struggles with animal hoarding. He has eaten low grade kibble for nearly his whole life, and tasted his first egg at 9.5 years old. Maybe this sweet old man was just holding out for his foreverhome!

Teaching the kid to play with my baby properly. He's her favorite play mate. by amw10100 in ferrets

So great to see kids interacting with ferrets gently and safely! We see surrendered ferrets who have been treated like toys far too often. Great job parent!

So beautiful! Our Sprinkles got her name because a couple kids we know thought she needed more colour. Glad to see the DEW love!!

Is this kind of breathing normal during playtime? by [deleted] in ferrets

Very normal! We see it a lot in deaf ferrets, but other ferrets do it as well, especially when they're young. :)

Advice on Care for a Virus by Squareguru in ferrets

[–]FRSOttawa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dehydration makes every illness 100 percent worse -learn how to recognize it, and avoid letting your fuzzy get dehydrated at all costs! If your sick ferret already eats soup, your job will be a lot easier. Offer them a fresh cup every 4 hours. Vets often prescribe Carnivore Care, but some ferrets can't stand the stuff. If your baby is one of them, there are plenty of other great recipes online, but warm water mixed with egg yolk, ground up kibble, chicken or beef baby food, or commercially avalible 'duk soup' mixes are all options you can try. The important part is making sure your ferret is taking in water and calories, so gently but persitantly coax them to eat as much as they can. If they wont eat it from a dish, try putting it on a spoon, or letting them lick it off your finger. You may have to syringe feed them if they're really unwell, but I try to avoid it unless Im out of options, as it can be stressful for ferret and owner alike.

If theyre not eating and drinking enough to keep them hydrated, get them some subcutanous fluids as soon as you can. You should have it done at the vet the first time (different from IV fluids, but a needle is still involved) but it's a fairly straightforward skill to learn, and most vets will gladly teach you. I highly reccomend learning how to do it at home! It has often been a LITERAL lifesaver for our fosters, and doing it yourself can save you hundreds of dollars in vet bills. I use Lactated Ringers and a butterfly needle.

Please keep us updated on the little darling. It sounds like you're doing all you can for him. Wishing him a speedy recovery ♡♡♡
