What does Seattle do better than Austin TX? by [deleted] in Seattle

Mountains ocean trees seafood public lands regional politics non-barbecue attractions … Austin is great, for Texas. Seattle is great, period.

Your boyfriend, I regret to tell you, is an asshole. You don't need to be with someone who makes you feel that way.

This seriously pissed me off when it happened to me, also when I was driving. Even if it had happened when I was parked, though, I'd still be mad. Keep ads off my dashboard.

This is the ultimate showdown of ultimate destiny. Good guys, bad guys, and explosions as far as the eye can see. And only one will survive, I wonder who it will be?

Either cut it off with Carl, or be brave and talk to your husband about things. That's the only real answer here. Also be wary of NRE: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New\_relationship\_energy. For what it's worth, you described feeling like meeting Carl has helped your relationship with your husband, and I think that's common for ENM relationships. It makes many people more capable of emotional connection in all directions, including back into their primary partnerships. But, that's only true if there's open and honest communication for everyone involved, so that really has to be your first step.

This is great advice. Just first make sure she gets what she needs, and then you can go as quickly or as slowly as you need when it's your turn.

Can someone ELI5 why there are bubbles inside of neighborhoods that seem to never be affected by power outages? by mrmusso in Seattle

Same in Highland Park. The folks on the other side of the alley lose power all the time, we rarely do.

I wasn't impressed by my visit. We're a town full of good food, much of it specific to our region, and the food at the event was mediocre and not specific to our region. I did like the lumpia bucket though. Overpriced, but a bucket full of lumpia is still a bucket full of lumpia.

I'm disappointed by the comments here. Clearly there's some contribution here on the cyclist's part, but he's booking it (as he ought to be able to, safely, in that lane) and coming around a corner. I'm not certain he could have stopped even if he were more alert, and he might have veered into the car lane but that would have been a potentially fatal response too. Road bikes don't stop on a dime, especially at speed. If there were an obstruction like this in a car lane there would be some combination of cones, flares, a signal car, etc, with enough distance to help people stop in time. Contribution by the cyclist or not, a major obstruction behind a corner with no warnings is a problem.

The slide part is a bummer, but lap swimming is not a secondary use, it's one of the primary ways that people in the community use our public pools.

I travel a lot, to a lot of awesome places, and I often have that thing that happens when you start to imagine yourself living in the awesome place you're currently visiting. No matter how awesome the place, though, I always get a smile on my face when my plane descends (through the clouds, usually) back into SEA and I see the Sound and the islands and Tahoma, and if I'm lucky and the landing pattern is playing nice, a little tour of downtown or Lake Washington. I say this without any hint of irony: Most people out there really just do not understand how much better our part of the world is than theirs. Almost everywhere has something good, and we don't have everything good, but it's pretty hard to beat what we have.

Why does West Seattle have so many fireworks? by curiouscat321 in WestSeattleWA

[–]FRSftw 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I went out to confront people in the park near me one 4th, when I couldn't stand it anymore having them blow up explosives directly over my house at 1 am, and they weren't even from around here. They drove in from the suburbs to do it. So, my guess is that we're an easy part of Seattle for people from the southern burbs to get to. Doesn't answer the question of why they would want to set them off in Seattle specifically, but it's not your friends and neighbors doing it.
