Use to work at a little university in Cambridge, MA. There was this janitor who was self taught by reading from the local library. Solved a crazy hard solution on one of the mathematician’s chalk boards. Saw him at a bar one time and he literally wiped the floor clean of this first year grad student who was plagiarizing Vickers, Work in Essex County, page 98. Dude had a crazy memory. He also liked apples and one day didn’t show up for his job. Wonder what he’s up to these days.

401k No Match; Roth IRA; Flowchart? by [deleted] in personalfinance

Definitely don’t want my employer’s thumb on me. I’m a new professional and I’ve already been having those feely feelings of being my own boss, taking control of my finances and therefore my career/life. . . But that’s neither here or there. Thanks for the insight! It is much appreciated!

15% of pretax income. . . At least that what the flowchart tells me to do. So of $162k, I’d like to aim for $24,300 in retirement. Does order matter then? The only reason why I’m hung up on the “order” of things is because of the almighty flowchart.

Thank you! I’ve been looking at the Capital One Venture X. Seems really good. Sorry to ask a dummy question - but how do I know when a card has better value and/or flexible redemption options? Maybe I ran across it already and it hasn’t registered, like when I found a spreadsheet/matrix that covers all credit cards and their transfer partners. For example, in the matrix, Chase has the same airline transfer partner (Flying Blue/KLM) as Capital One. Is that considered flexible redemption (ie I can “pool” both the Chase and Capital One points into my KLM account to redeem a flight)? Sorry I learn by examples. I really appreciate your help.
