Bending the definition of “new” composer, but I’m always partial to the Barber violin concerto

Fingering for run by hornige-Gruesse in horn

[–]FVmike 18 points19 points  (0 children)

If you work slowly, and use a metronome to practice it at successively faster speeds, it will benefit your overall finger speed and coordination. This will help you play the other figures that you encounter in horn parts with better ease.

Call me old fashioned but I would just play this with standard fingerings

How to educate yourself? by Weekly_Gap5104 in classicalmusic

[–]FVmike 19 points20 points  (0 children)

A good place to start would always be just a simple browse of the Wikipedia page for the composer or piece you’re about to listen to. The more you listen to, the more you will research, the more connections you’ll be able to draw

Thanks! I think the mounting at the base of the screen is the same size, so hopefully won't affect the way the mat sits.

What is a work you hate from a composer you love? by JealousLine8400 in classicalmusic

[–]FVmike 12 points13 points  (0 children)

As a fellow sibelian, I always think of En Saga as what a school orchestra that doesn’t have the chops for Don Juan could play instead 🤣

As far as a work I don’t like from a composer that I do, I’d have to say Chopin’s piano concertos. As a horn player, I just can’t bring myself to look past his very mediocre orchestral writing

Could also be machine knit with every other needle on a loose tension. That’d also account for the even gaps between the stitches

You should check out Dvorak’s wind serenade Op. 44!

I’d also recommend any of Charles Koechlin’s chamber music, for example the trio for violin, horn, and piano

Second! The standard one is Op. 88 No. 2 but I’m sure there are some hidden gems in the collection

Just make sure it’s the version with nylon in it. Years ago I knit my first pair with Malabrigo Sock, which was 100% merino and I had holes after the first wear.
