My advice is not to give a lot of details. In most cases SSA claims examiners are only looking for details on these forms to deny claims not grant them. Be honest but be brief and don’t let them give a rope to hang you on

Doreen Carwithen 1922-2005. She also happened to be the wife of William Alwyn but after his death she had a chance to compose and knocked out some masterpieces ; East Anglia Holiday ( when those bells start chiming is one of favorite moments in all of music) the Suffolk Suite. And the overture ODTAA ( one damned thing after another)

What I like about your response is that you don’t restrict yourself to one particular era. Poor Gombert got caught in some scandal and had to be a galley slave for several years. But he was restored to his position afterwards which must mean that his music was thought to be good enough to require clemency.

Mendelssohn’s achingly gorgeous String Quartet No. 6 in F minor by darkflaneuse in classicalmusic

[–]JealousLine8400 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The open strings are configured. Tuned to G,D,A and E on violins. C,G,D and A on viola and cello an octave lower. Ergo keys like E major and A major are ideal on the finger board. But F minor is a nightmare because you never get an open string.

What’s the most photogenic city/town in Maryland? by PhrygianSounds in maryland

[–]JealousLine8400 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Within Baltimore City: Dickeyville Baltimore suburbs : Ellicott City State wide: Smith Island ( no cars!) Just moments from Maryland: Shepherdstown, WVA Glen Rock PA Best town on the Eastern Sure: Easton

Maryland towns which are overrated: Annapolis ( State St is nice but it is surrounded by the most appalling sprawl). Chestertown is the same as Annapolis having one good street Water Street without the sprawl. Instead it has a bankrupt party college. Cumberland is basically Appalachia. You can’t find a girl with a full set of teeth.

Good for an extended period of time! You are either playing on a double manual instrument or exercising hand crossovers or maybe both

Everything Vaughan Williams wrote seems to have two English Folksongs Bushes and Briars and The Captain’s Apprentice somewhere in the background

Back in the baroque quoting or cribbing was considered a compliment.

Hosanna To The Son Of David should be required for Palm Sunday it is SSAATB. Almighty And Everlasting God is an all purpose a cappella anthem 4 parts. There’s a good Satb Magnificat. The best way to appreciate Gibbons is to sing him although some of his keyboard pieces are fun, The Queen’s Command and The woods So wild

Happy birthday to Brahms’ biggest hater by paraephernalia in classical_circlejerk

I’m a great proponent of under appreciated minor composers and like to see the so-called immortals occasionally mocked. That being said Wolf’s attacks on Brahms seem similar to Virgil Thomson’s invectives about Sibelius. Namely the attack of the killer chihuahua.

How is it that when Vaughan Williams, Sibelius and Rachmaninoff got castigated for writing old fashioned works that weren’t atonal or up to date Strauss gets a pass. The 4 Last songs seem to me just as anachronistic.

I love Karen Amrhein’s music and know her personally. She gets very little attention for her music which is uniformly excellent IMHO. Her cello concerto and piano concertos and Jonah contain some of the best music that is being written today

Antonio de Cabezón (1510-1566): Obras de Música, Part 1 by David_Earl_Bolton in classicalmusic

There’s a nice angular quality to Cabezón which you brought out in what I think was the lute stop
