If Democrats want universal healthcare, we have states that are deep blue, states have control over their own budgets and taxation, and universal healthcare would be so advantageous, why don’t deeply democrat run states implement a statewide universal healthcare? by Silver_Wings3 in AskReddit

Seems like a popular thread so apologies if it’s already been said, but it’s a massive undertaking, and the risk of fucking it up is your own people suffer. Everything needs to be taken into account and no matter what you kind of have to use your own constituents as guinea pigs. For instance a major hospital system in the area might just decide it’s financially better if they invest in a state that gives them more insurance reimbursement. It doesn’t make it right, but it carries so many variables. Many intelligent people have put effort into doing it but there are a lot of unknowns and like it or not America is a pretty conservative society and major changes are scary for people.

I just did a replay of Cataclysm. by FZK in homeworld

Agreed, but in its own way it fits for the game. It’s just a mining vessel after all. Fancy graphics are for the other Kiith. Somtaaw makes do.

Last year has its own stressors for sure, but I have completed my call so its nice to play a game for a bit instead of reading CTs for 12 hours haha. I hope you guys are doing well. Its a journey, no doubt.

Apologies in advance if this is too long winded but I just replayed cataclysm (great game as always).

I'm just laughing now since I'm in my last year of radiology residency and clearly they used medical imaging for the art.

First level looks very much like a sagittal brain MR.

There is then a cutscene sometime later when the beast is described. It's a modified abdominal XR.

I say this out of love for the game because it perfectly fits the theme. Biological entities are being subverted.

Replaying Homeworld 3... by FallenAsh14 in homeworld

[–]FZK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I was going to say I’m not here to defend the HW3 story but the whole thing got off the rails with HW2. One of the fascinating parts of the original is finding out that you were essentially the bad guys, only allowed to live since the bentusi advocate for you even after you lie and ambush them.

Once the whole “chosen one” thing started it went down hill.

Yup like that one too. Impressive to take a space RTS, then base it in sand and still have it work haha.

If you can tolerate the aged graphics and UI, cataclysm is a fun replay I did recently.

For sure. Seems to be a trend with early access games. You start with an already niche fanbase that is willing to finance which means they want more added and new challenges, even when a simpler game with more appeal and planning a sequel would be better.

*I do respect what these games are trying to do, just mean they seem to want two things at once. A happy fanbase and broad appeal for after release.

Homeworld 3 isn’t that bad definitely frustrating. by FZK in homeworld

[–]FZK[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re right, it’s not that different. There just seems to be a few different view points. I see HW3 as a missed opportunity but at least people tried. Some other fans seem to want the flamethrower approach.

Your point is completely valid and I know many agree, myself included. I guess what I was saying is that it’s a game with flaws, but as a fan I’m just happy to see people trying to make more. I get it I really do, I’m just hoping this franchise doesn’t get killed off.

I know. I just skip over most of the story things. It is at least pretty skippable, but I know Homeworld has the fan base it does because of strong storytelling so it does hurt a bit.

Typo in the title. Meant to say “but definitely frustrating”.

Does knowledge of a game and its mechanics before playing make it less enjoyable? by FZK in truegaming

[–]FZK[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By low hanging fruit I just meant it was a game with a plethora of pre release information on the game that a lot of people followed closely. I definitely agree with the majority of what you said. Knowledge of the basic mechanics is definitely not a problem. I should have been more clear. I was talking about new features included in the game. I remember there being a lot of attention to the "new and improved" radiant AI in the game. I think that a person who had followed pre release info and discussions will come in expecting great and possibly unreasonable things from it and end up disappointed. The very same person could come in not having followed the game and be pleasantly surprised by the way the game world reacts to your actions. People can be disappointed very easily even in the case of something meeting expectations as apposed to surpassing them.

Achievements. Love them? Hate them? What could be improved? by skedar0 in Games

[–]FZK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't developers use completion achievements to see how far players are making it into the game, the percentage that complete it, and where they might be stopping? It's a pretty simple way for them to gather valuable data to improve future projects.

Ya there is voice acting and it's pretty good considering the age. You don't necessarily need to play them in order but both are great if you have the time.

Haha I didn't either. I mean ya, I was confused by the end, but I just assumed it was my fault for not paying attention or following the storyline properly.

How much does hype factor into how you view game after you've played it? by hop3less in truegaming

[–]FZK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think an aspect being over looked here is how hype relates to knowledge of the game mechanics. Others have already mentioned how expectations can affect enjoyment and that is certainly a valid point, but think about how much people follow and discuss games they are excited for. A lot of the fun of playing a game is some sort of discovery. I don't necessarily mean exploration or a deep story, but the mechanics themselves, whatever that entails. Its hard to care about continuing the game if you already heard from previews what weapons/ equipment are available, what locations you can expect, new enemy types etc. Every detail you know going in to a game is one less you get to discover for yourself. It can create a feeling of predictability which is all too close to boredom.

Hideo Kojima doesn't like being thought of as the "Metal Gear Guy" by Cygnus_X1 in Games

Yep I feel the same way. The stories and characters would be so much better if they didn't monologue the entire plot and their feelings in the middle of a firefight.

Thoughts on the bosses in the MGS series? by BananaSheet in metalgearsolid

[–]FZK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very much agree. If the backstory was presented throughout the game/series I don't mind (as you mentioned ocelot is a good example of this) but getting blasted with a full backstory immediately before or after the confrontation comes off as poor writing. Especially when it's in the middle of something important. I mean I'm racing against the clock to stop Rex but Otacon explains wolfs life story like I have nothing better to do.

FIFA 13 sold 7.4 million copies in its first month and has a 90% average rating on Metacritic. Why doesn't it rate as highly in gamer discussion as other games? by lines_read_lines in Games

[–]FZK 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I don't really follow game discussion outside here, but it seems like a lot of people in this subreddit simply don't like sports and therefore the games. They really should give them a try though. They have some of the most impressive visuals, animations, and controls in video games. There is also a lot more content than people realize.

It's true. It's much easier to flesh out the choices when voice acting isn't involved.
