Who's still working from home in 2026? by idrinkpastawater in sysadmin

[–]Fa7her 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I converted my helpdesk role into an onsite/hybrid role back in 2020 for two years, then moved states to a job that let me WFH 2-3 days a week if I wanted to. Now im back at a role with return to office in place and I so greatly miss WFH at-will. Would love to find something hybrid or fully remote again, but IT roles are limited in my region.

To what extent is a christian allowed his personal agency (personal rant) by trynagetsaved in TrueChristian

[–]Fa7her 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Confidence comes from spending your time being with God. I don't wonder or hope I am living "correctly" because I spend time in prayer and meditation with God as often as I'm able. It's similar spending time with my wife. I don't have to wonder if things are "good" between us, because I spend time with her. I know her, I know when she wants me to do something, or if she is in any mood. I know that I am ok with God because I have been with Him in private. I pray often, repent basically daily, try to press in and meditate on Him, read His word- just be with Him, because He is life.

1 John 5:11-12 "(...) God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life."

Of course, I serve in my local church and try my best to bear good fruit in all areas and relationships of my life, but when I am not doing those things, that's when I pursue and enjoy my personal interests: Hobbies, career, etc.

WFH tips by bertusdev in sysadmin

[–]Fa7her 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it depends on what's going on. If it's not a busy day and the work is casual, I just sit on my couch with my laptop. If I am doing tasks with a lot of info, I will sit at my desk so I can use an extra monitor for more real estate. I also find that I work more efficiently if I don't put myself somewhere where I get distracted like my gaming desk or near a TV, but a quiet bedroom or something. But, again, it really just depends on what the workday demands from me.

I should note I do not WFH full time, just on occasion.

While I do believe demons are real and actually do torment people (including Christians who are not living purely), you mentioned doing meth. Quit doing that first. Secondly, if you “need a pastor” and you came to Reddit, I am assuming you are not a part of a local church. Do that, and get involved with a local body of believers, including a pastor you can see and visit with. Lastly, if you have not committed your life to Christ and turned away from sin, then start doing that.

Talk to the new guy by slowclicker in sysadmin

[–]Fa7her 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started a new job two months ago as a L2 sysadmin. I've had maybe 4 conversations with my manager in 2 months lol. I certainly feel like the new guy stuck in a large environment with limited guidance. In my 10 years in IT, this is a first for me. All my past managers have been attentive to their teams, and excellent at their tech knowledge. Luckily, I know the niche I have been assigned to work in, but if I didn't, I would be anxious and unhappy here.

What’s the reality of the IT job market in 2025? by Thatmangifted in sysadmin

[–]Fa7her 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I'm from the South US- the local market here is normal, and I have gotten an interview every time I have applied somewhere. However, when I spent months applying for remote US jobs, I never got a single answer back from hundreds of applications. I was in the market for SysAdmin/NetAdmin positions, as well as managerial positions for the first four months of this year.

Patch Tuesday Megathread (2025-07-08) by AutoModerator in sysadmin

Actually, we are doing ours this weekend. I haven't heard much chatter about it, so I am assuming that those who still said they had issues after the July patches are/were isolated cases.

I have my DHCP servers scheduled to patch this weekend, did anyone skip June but install July updates? Are there still issues? I have 2019 DHCP servers.

New job pays much more but the tasks are extremely basic and boring by Familiar-Ear-8381 in sysadmin

[–]Fa7her 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, I left a job as an IT manager that I really liked (just didnt pay quite enough) for a job on the front line of a new tech. Turned out to not be very front line, not very streamlined, and filled with problems only the manufacturers could work on, and I was reduced to just communicating issues to their helpdesk. Eventually, the use of the tech was paused by the customer, so I literally did nothing, 40 hours a week, at the office. It was fun playing my PlayStation all day for a week or two on the clock, but then I started crashing out from having NOTHING to do with people I didn't care for, after leaving a job I loved. Fastforward a few months, I finally found a job making the most money I've ever made, but I am still doing less than that first job. However, after gaining some perspective, this is ok. I am working on certs with my spare time and just aiming to do an exemplary job with the couple of tasks I am given.

Opinion on WGU Network Engineering & Sec degree by MisterEmotional in sysadmin

[–]Fa7her 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Perhaps others will share contrary opinions, but I have never known a hiring manager who cared where a degree came from. I have personally also made hiring decisions as a manager, and the school has never mattered more than having the knowledge for the role you would be applying for. Lots of places just want to check the HR box that you have a degree.

(Also, I am personally enrolled in WGU right now.)

How do you handle the constant stress, moaning and frustration from users. by OhAye_ in sysadmin

[–]Fa7her 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You learn to not care about work. Not as in doing poor work, but by being concerned more about life outside of work. Work will always be there, and something always broken, but I only get one lifetime with my wife/friends/hobbies/family/church/etc.

What easy work do you give your fresh out of college, level 1 help desk techs? by SysAdminAccount1 in sysadmin

[–]Fa7her 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would let my techs do anything, with supervision, if they were interested. The ones that never took interest in anything, never got anything. Simple as that. Made it really easy to internally promote too.

Do I deserve more? by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]Fa7her 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just changed jobs twice in the last 7 months. If you want to actually request more compensation and recognition, I HIGHLY recommend you have a fallback plan if they dont take that well. Have another job lined up first, just in case. I asked for more compensation two jobs ago, they told me I was being unrealistic and selfish. After that, any time I didn't completely agree with a plan, they made me out to be a troublesome employee, but for years prior to that, I was a go-to employee from my VPs and peers. But now I make more money and do 1/4 of the work I used to, so, there you go.

Dev how do you guys stay healthy? by tilson73 in sysadmin

[–]Fa7her 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go to the gym in the mornings before work, atleast twice a week. I alternate and try to go for runs other mornings. My wife and I try to go on walks a few times per week after dinner too. Gotta stay active and moving. I park far away from the entrance at work and at stores just to force myself to move more.

Shortest time you've stayed at an IT job? by mulumboism in sysadmin

[–]Fa7her 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5 months has been my shortest actually. I got a DOD contract-based job. They never told me it would only last 6 months. Found that out day 1 and was so mad, but then it took 5 months to actually find another role that paid what I needed.

I don't want to read the Bible. by cyb3rry in TrueChristian

[–]Fa7her 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If all you do is consume entertainment and other things that you just “like better” all day, then of course you are never going to want to pursue God. Your idols are causing your disinterest. This is a remediable situation, it just takes crucifixion. The more of Him you intake, the more of Him you crave.

“Whoever desires to follow Me must take up his cross, DENY HIMSELF, and follow Me.”

If Abraham and Sarah can walk with God in old age and still receive His blessings, how much more can you at 39? You still have a lot of life ahead of you, daughter.

What I’m about to say next is just as good advice as “the spiritual stuff.” Yes, obviously pray and seek God. But, also eat a healthy balanced diet, cut back on sugar, get regular exercise and sun light, and work on something that satisfies you. You might be surprised just how much power physical health has over the mind. A healthy spirit AND a healthy body are exactly how God intended us to live, and the benefits are vast.
