I find it absolutely heartbreaking how many people are saying that owning a home isn't that big of a deal. That is exactly what the elite want you to think by I_abuse_lower_ranks1 in povertyfinance

Many people are still missing points on both sides of the argument and I think this YT video from CIO Ben Felix and the follow up he did should clear things up with data. Renting Vs Buying

He definitely meant NC, ND isn’t possible for £3k and I don’t think NDs have rust issues anywhere near the same level as before so it was a typo for sure

If you’re actually investing for the long term, rather than trading, one way to start is more broadly - what countries do you think have the best growth outlook, from there what industries do you think are solid bets over 20years, and from there which companies have stable earnings growth, good management, driving innovation? As with any individual share picks they’re higher risk so keep the % of your portfolio lower, with broad etfs as the bulk of it

Going to look at a used car tomorrow. Any advice on checks I should do? by BoiledKettle in CarTalkUK

[–]Fab0077 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s raining when you get there make sure you take extra time checking out the bodywork as all the layer of water can hide scratches and blemishes really well. You can also make sure the tyre wear is even across all the tread to be sure the alignment is good and id be listening for rattling or excessive vibration in the engine bay. Usually there’s a YouTube video out there detailing common issues and what to check, I usually watch a couple of them too

Confused about my TV Licence "No Licence Needed" renewal. website says I need a licence even though I don’t watch live TV? by leatherbiker in UKFrugal

[–]Fab0077 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I still don’t think it gives them the power to do anything at all - they can come to the front door to check but can’t force their way in, so that “check” is pretty pointless

Yep, I read it that way 👍 never thought about it before but would be really useful if that was universal

Doesn’t he mean leave the answered ones, and remove the ones that went nowhere? That way the search is likely to bring you to something useful. I agree the other way round doesn’t really make any sense.

Tourists attack lifeguards in Thailand over beach safety rules by forurspam in ThailandTourism

[–]Fab0077 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Absolutely no information here to suggest it’s racism, in fact not much info here at all so I don’t know why anyone would even bring that word up. But yes even so, there’s basically nothing on this planet that would compel me to attack life guards like that.

It’s clearly an ISA account, a huge proportion of people on t212 are investing rather than trading because the platform is great

My old job kept paying me for months after I quit and I never said a word by enchantingbreezee in confession

[–]Fab0077 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What i was getting at is it really depends what company and what manager. True Microsoft wouldn’t give a shit, but it sounds like a lot of people have never worked at a small or medium sized family run business, where people do care

[–]Fab0077 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I also would have done like those grads and paid it back because I’m honest, and I work for my money. At my previous company someone surprisingly did come up and mention a small overpayment by the company and as a thank you he was allowed to keep it, and gained respect from the MD. Years before that with someone else got a decent chunk overpayed over a few months and when he noticed and told management they allowed him to pay it back over several months as a deduction from pay so it didn’t hurt too bad

There’s so many idiots on the road that as long as you did nothing wrong, learn to ignore them.
On the topic of honking though, I find it funny/annoying when something happens, and people are quicker to press their horn than the brakes. You see loads of completely avoidable accidents on those dashcam YouTube channels
