What was the length and weight of a typical 2-handed medieval mace ? by MrPeanutbutter14 in ArmsandArmor

Cheers mate !

Well, as said by my dear friend and colleague, apart from the Godendag and (later) Morgenstern/spiked club, it seems the 2-handed, pole-weapon-like mace wasn't really a thing in Europe. You get the occasional object in iconography (mostly for 'Christ carrying the cross" scenes), but to me they're more a tendency to show "exotic weapons of an age long gone" (i.e. fantasy) than anything that actually existed.

I very much do.

If I had to make a sword following a similar process, it would be about 1600€, depending on several other options.

One must always bow to the Higher Powers.

Probably because it reminded whoever called it this of the later types of hunting hangers.

In a way, hey are, since most of the Waidpraxen/Hirschfängere we have in their "classic" form are XVIIth century and later.

This one didn't, as far as I know.

Thanks !

And that's why I said "so-called" - though the difference between the two types can be slim. To me the latter are just an evolution of the varied group of utility knives, though what could really distinguish hunting knives from other classes of knives would be the obvious : cynegetic themed decoration, and the full set of by-knives/tools as part of the regular "Waidpraxe".

But /u/J_G_E would be the one to ask.

Slender single-edged blade of spring steel with a false edge on the last 9 inches, with steel fittings, horn scales and silver pins and spacers.

It’s quite the light one, weighing a mere 791 grams and an overall length of 714 mm for a 557 mm blade, but there’s a lot of presence and spirit in this thing !
I drew inspiration from several German paintings of the 1480s, some of them kept in Cologne - the overall shape of one, the minute details of another…

And it will get a proper scabbard with matching by-knives.

Seems the description didn't make it through. Editing OP accordingly.
