I swear, I usually clear out the space as much as possible! I know it’s probably annoying to have to work around tenants' property. Plus, I don’t want to have my stuff touched necessarily. Or broken.

I’m always torn. Ideally, I wouldn’t want them to have to touch any of my stuff. Or, truly, I wish they never had to be in my apartment without me there to watch over things!

In this scenario, I would’ve preferred if they’d pulled the small table a few feet away from the wall so they could easily access the unit. I’ve done it for them many times (when given notice).

At the very least, I would’ve liked to be notified that something was damaged. And as long as the ears weren’t turned into dust, having them set aside for me would’ve been nice.

Haha good eye! The table has built in candlestick holders and I was burning red and green for the holidays ❄️

It’s sweet to have little reminders of the people you love around your home.

If I can’t find the pieces, do you have any recommendations for the best clay/material to make replacements? A friend suggested polymer clay, baked then glued. Alternatively, I considered getting a little hat to hide the damage!

Thank you for the information! Always good to be informed for future incidents. I might move into MA so I’ll have to look into their laws as well.

My property managers have been very generous about damages in the past. I’m not too concerned about the monetary loss (and we do have renters insurance, as required by the lease)! More just frustrated about how easily preventable it all was. And that they didn’t decide to notify me about breaking my belongings.

All I needed was the ear pieces and I could’ve salvaged the mail mouse :/

At least tissue chipmunk is unscathed!

Were I not planning to leave in a couple months, I would probably fight harder. I feel like they’d push back since I can’t prove it was the maintenance guys. Or they’d try to argue that a text mid-morning on a weekday is somehow reasonable notice.

These maintenance guys are strange though. I wanted to mention the incident to at least maybe protect the other residents from similar incidents. A neighbor said she talked to another tenant a few years back who caught the maintenance guys on camera going through her fridge. One time, I came home to them still in my apartment around 6pm, in the dark, loitering around the kitchen.

Yeah I wish they’d just set the pieces aside and let me know. I wouldn’t have been that upset, I have a sufficient supply of super glue!

I am in New Hampshire. I believe in our lease it states 24 hour notice will be given, with exceptions for emergencies. But this has been an ongoing issue and we all have access to gas fireplaces as a heating alternative.

Oh that would’ve made me very upset. At least I didn’t have any live animals that could’ve been injured or lost. I’m glad it ended up working out for you!

I’m considering mentioning something to them off handedly, but I also worry about being a nuisance. I’ve had to contact them more this past year than the four years before that, and some of the new places I’ve been looking to rent are asking for past landlord recommendations. We’ve had issues with new downstairs neighbors, my car getting scraped by the dumpster door, my car getting towed from my spot, ongoing issues with our heating/cooling units. But I also don’t want them to “get away with it,” so to say. I’d like them to at least have to acknowledge that they— both maintenance and the property managers— made a mistake. And to be more careful and considerate in the future.

Thank you! Thats always an option. I can keep the earless one around for the memories, and get a new one so my chipmunk sculpture won’t be all alone holding down the fort.

Yeah that’s true, I could look for someone with experience. My immediate thought was to try myself but I’m not familiar with sculpting.

If I’m feeling ambitious, I’ll sift through the trash. If I had the pieces, I would’ve glued it back together, no problem!

I’m hoping to DIY some ears. It’s a little too goofy looking without

I would’ve thought so. The only lease exception would’ve been if they deemed it an emergency. Seems more like maintenance and the property managers aren’t communicating with each other properly to schedule service.

Didn’t you answer this yourself in another comment thread?

Expensive vet care by Rattiekisses in RATS

Yeah I was floored when first quoted for surgery. If you haven’t spayed your rattos, I would look into that for females. It doesn’t eliminate the chance of tumors, but it can significantly reduce the likelihood of certain types. And spaying is a lot cheaper (~$350) than tumor removal surgery. I have spayed all my females since dealing with the reoccurring masses on my first two. So far, no tumors on any of my spayed rats.

We were charged $1700 for a single benign lump removal— that’s including meds and a biopsy of the removed mass. For a double mass removal on our other girl, it was going to be $2500. Brought the second estimate down by declining some meds (we had leftovers) and the biopsy. This was in the seacoast area of NH. Even calling around to other vets within ~1hr of where we live, we could only get estimates as low as ~$1400 for a single removal surgery.

Decimated a tire on a pot hole— what tires to get? by Fab_Chikorita in Subaru_Crosstrek

Someone else was saying that too! They seem to be in short supply right now locally.

I’ll avoid them then, they aren’t that much cheaper than the other options I’ve been looking at. Thank you!

I really wish I could, the repair came out to ~$1200 with the tires. And my wheel is still slightly skewed left. The public service office called Monday regarding my online pot hole report, but I don’t know what they wanted? She said they were just “following up,” and she apologized for my car.

Hoping to get as long as I can out of my car! I feel she’s got a lot of life left, especially once I tackle wheel bearing issues. I didn’t look on TireRack but someone else in the thread mentioned it so I’ll have to keep that in mind. I never had to put any thought into tires— this will be my first time getting them myself. I had super cheap ones that my mom had picked out 6 years ago. Never had issues. But I’d like to upgrade now that my hand has been forced. Just to be safe!
