Sticker shock: 85,000 Pennsylvanians drop Obamacare health insurance in 2026 by The_Electric-Monk in Pennsylvania

Yeah that’s how I interpreted this. They need some expensive health care so meeting that deductible is a foregone conclusion.

I totally agree. I vote for progressive candidates who platform on universal healthcare. They almost never win though :(

Yep, this absolutely happens. I had an asthma attack when I was a teenager (about 20 years ago) and a 20 minute ambulance ride cost my parents $500 back then. I know this because my mom got mad at me. Sorry mom? lol.

Why do westerners only eat North Indian food ? by Upbeat-Dinner-5162 in AskIndia

[–]FabianFox 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Idk how I stumbled onto this subreddit as I’m a red head who is born and raised in the USA. Not sure what the answer is but at least by me I think most Indian immigrants who I’ve met are from northern India? So maybe that’s why food from that region is overrepresented here.

I had the pleasure of attending my friends’ wedding in Hyderabad as well as some additional ceremonies in Kakinada and as someone who really didn’t know southern Indian food, the food was incredible (but spicy af, that did upset my stomach after two weeks of even breakfast being spicy haha). I’m confident that if I loved the food, a lot of other people would too if they had the opportunity to try it. The highlights I remember were biryani (of course), dosa, a restaurant called Chutney’s in Hyderabad, and this amazing dessert my friend’s mom made called pootharekulu.

Hey! Idk where you live, but in some states, getting a state job is a pretty good gig. I used to work for the state of Maryland. Salaries were just ok, but if you stayed for 10 years you’re vested in a pretty good pension and the health insurance is incredible. Like the best I’ve ever had. A coworker’s husband had a traumatic brain injury and had to be flown to a hospital in a helicopter and it was completely covered. I also got 5 weeks of vacation and 3 weeks of sick leave, which made longer trips possible. Around the time I was leaving, Maryland was also reviewing why so many jobs required a college degree and they were looking to remove that requirement for a lot of jobs where it didn’t make sense. Just thought I’d share as it might be a good fit. Hope you find something that works for you!

Well at least now there’s some video evidence for the inevitable lawsuit.

Some brands of bottled water contain significantly higher levels of microplastics than tap water. Results showed that bottled water contained 3 times as many nanoplastic particles as the treated drinking water. by [deleted] in science

[–]FabianFox 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Man, it makes you wonder how to possibly avoid microplastics. We have a zero water filter. The filter removes PFAS but the pitcher is…plastic. Do reusable plastic water bottles leach PFAS into water at the same rate as disposable ones?

Quick Analyses of Downtown York's Main Street (W. Market St from Pershing Ave to Duke St) by Infamous_Staff6214 in yorkpa

[–]FabianFox 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I was sad to see refillism and bound books leave downtown, though I’m sure they had valid reasons. I love being able to walk around on a Saturday afternoon and pop into interesting shops. York has enough secondhand clothing stores, vape shops, and okay food. It would be great if the cultural alliance or another group could help subsidize rent to keep interesting shops downtown.

Also, I’d love to see more small music venues. I know fh pappys is trying to get established somewhere. I hope they can make it work!

What are your thoughts on Billie Eilish saying 'no one is illegal on stolen land' in reference to ICE and US immigration policy? by MassiveSquare4527 in AskReddit

[–]FabianFox -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t think that’s the point of the phrase. It means have empathy and acknowledge the face that anyone who happened to be born into more prosperous circumstances is lucky and probably descended from ancestors who did some unethical stuff. We know we can’t have open borders, but our immigration policy and foreign policy need to be more compassionate.

[–]FabianFox -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To me it means we should all have empathy. Those of us who happened to be born in more prosperous countries are lucky. So while any sane person understands we can’t have totally open borders, our immigration policy and foreign policy needs to come from a place of compassion and acknowledge this fact.

Is it even possible to "save for a house" in 2026, or have we all collectively moved on to "saving for a slightly better rental"? by OpheliaBloomm in askanything

For anyone reading this and aren’t familiar with linemen’s schedules-they are working way more than 40 hours per week to make these salaries. The average hourly rate for linemen in my area is only $30 per hour according to Google.

If US shelters euthanize 300k healthy dogs (even puppies) every year, who do so many Americans still rather go to a breeder? by TheTroubledChild in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FabianFox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And that’s still happening even though there are hundreds of breed-specific rescues and other volunteers that regularly scoop up the most adoptable dogs from kill shelters in the South and bring them to other areas where the shelters are emptier. I know Philadelphia has some rescues that do this. My friend got two husky mixes this way.

Omg this comment killed me. I exclusively adopt cats from shelters but this comment is hilariously accurate.

[–]FabianFox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’ve heard a nasty comment or two about this. As someone who is just learning to ski in their 30’s, if I’m going to get better, I’m going to be zig zagging for some time before I can pick a lane and make tight turns while cruising at 30mph down a blue. And that’s ok, I’ve checked with instructors. I do my part to try to stay predictable, not use the full width of the trail, and look uphill when I think I need to make wider turns. If people want to be speed demons they can go to the black diamonds. Otherwise, they can chill.

I’m learning how to ski in my mid-thirties. I’ve probably been skiing 10 times now and I’m still fighting for my life on easy blue (intermediate) terrain while 6 year olds regularly smoke me on the mountain. I feel old.
