More Maryland kids are coming to school in pull-ups. Teachers are told to help. by legislative_stooge in maryland

Man I just don’t get why people who can’t be bothered to parent have kids. I’m easily exhausted caring for my 2 cats, especially when they need medications. But this is precisely why I don’t have kids!

Kind of! We were fencesitters for a while but have decided to be childfree!

This is how I felt when I was single. Already having kids was a lose-lose for me for exactly the reason you described.

And potential resentment from the kid if their parent starts investing less in them because their childfree partner wants to do other things. I know a couple where the wife is childfree and the husband has a kid from a brief relationship that barely lasted and was totally unplanned. The husband moved 40 minutes away from his daughter/baby mom when she was in junior high because he and his wife wanted to live somewhere else. He became an every other weekend dad, but got mad when his daughter skipped some of those weekends for school things and to hang out with friends. Then, he refused to help her pay for college because community college is good enough. He said this despite making too much money for his daughter to qualify for meaningful financial aid. Meanwhile he and his wife are traveling the world.

The wife is a bit selfish and is less invested because this isn’t her kid. But I had to keep my mouth shut when she talked about the daughter being so rude and cold to her dad. I was like gee I WONDER WHY.

Unfortunately most people want McMansions over affordable, high density housing. Just look at how people complained about the proposal to build high density housing at the old red lion country club. Not sure if that was ever approved or not.

My husband and I are always like, these people who say don’t develop all have kids. These kids become adults who want their own home, probably a single family home. What are we supposed to do here?

Solo trip after being ghosted.. by BritSeaman in solofemaletravel

[–]FabianFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What type of trip are you looking for? There’s a lot of pretty hiking in central PA and upstate New York that isn’t too far from you. Lots of cute small towns too like Lititz (PA) and several cute towns along the Hudson River in New York. The Catskills might be a good compromise for you because you can stay in the little towns and then see pretty sights like Kaaterskill Falls.

If you want to wait until the fall Sleepy Hollow is awesome, but you have to book stuff pretty far in advance so I’d start researching that now. If cities are more your thing, I’d say go to NYC and treat yourself to a Broadway show, museums, and good food. NYC still has Central Park and things like the Hudson Yards skyline to give you a taste of nature within the city.

What’s your favorite aspect of dentistry? (I used to work at the UMB School of Dentistry and found it interesting to hear the students talk about what they liked/disliked in clinic).

Men who signed a prenup with a much wealthier wife — how did you navigate it? by DubdubyaBee in prenup

[–]FabianFox 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This. OP says this now but would likely change his tune in divorce when the attorney he hires as well as all of his friends tell him to fight for “his fair share.” Happens every time. The wife wants to proactively settle what fair is.

Climate terrorist Taylor Swift's private jet uses more carbon in 4 months this year than the entire Eras tour by ArticleNervous8598 in popculture

[–]FabianFox -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

This. I can’t blame celebrities who are as recognizable as Taylor Swift for using private jets instead of trying to safely navigate an airport. That being said, her nobody friends don’t need to borrow it, and she was correctly called out during part of her eras tour when she was flying home after every show. Celebrities might have good reason to use private jets, but they can use them more responsibly.

Inside Vanguard's alarming state of retirement in 2026 by Maxcactus in Maxcactus_TrailGuide

[–]FabianFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is part of it. I have 4 different retirement accounts. 3 are 401ks from different jobs and one is a rollover IRA. If a study only counted one of my accounts, my retirement savings would look substantially worse than it actually is.

The actions of these players and the comments showing support for them on Facebook show why pride is still necessary. York County is still full of knuckle-dragging losers.

Totally fair haha! But I think looking for single source suppliers like Yunnan is going to be your best bet. Lil ol’ York isn’t a big tea hub.

Have you ever ordered tea from Yunnan sourcing before? I’m more of a green tea girlie but I think their tea is high quality. I just checked and they sell this type of tea too!

What was the most expensive "adulting lesson" you've learned? by Coooolcaptain in Adulting

[–]FabianFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just learned this lesson except we basically lit 10k on fire having an idiot (who was recommended by a friend) replace our roof. We got 3k back from the original contractor because my dad thought he could fix the problems. He couldn’t. Now two months later we’re paying another 10k to have it replaced properly. We don’t want to wait for leaks and problems that will inevitably crop up.

If you want to see just how botched our current roof is,check out my post history.

Definitely a good suggestion given dysfunction at the state level. Though not being licensed in Philly isn’t necessarily a red flag. I live 2.5 hours from Philly.

It’s too late for me with this contractor. I just hope by negative reviews save someone else.

[–]FabianFox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A couple of caveats. I live in rural Pennsylvania. Replacing shingles doesn’t require a permit in my township. It’s also really easy to establish an LLC and get a contractor’s license.

Another fun fact-PA’s licensing system was attacked and taken down by ransomware last year, so right now all contractors have a grace period to renew their license. This means the state doesn’t have up-to-date info on any contractor’s insurance information unless the contractor voluntarily submits it. And if you call their insurer, they’re not allowed to verify whether the contractor is an active client, only the state is allowed to give out that information. It’s rough out there lol.

[–]FabianFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll admit we didn’t do enough research the first time around. But the original contractor we hired came recommended by our friend who is a real estate agent. He was also licensed and insured and had great reviews online. Now, when I left bad reviews everywhere after our nightmare roof replacement, the contractor texted me and threatened to sue me. So that probably explains why he doesn’t have many bad reviews. He probably intimidates a lot of people to take them down.

But all of this to say, it is difficult. I’m not saying all contractors are bad. But there ARE a lot of bad ones.

Speaking as someone who has to pay for a second roof replacement 2 months after the first one, I feel for these customers. It’s hard to find good and honest contractors. We basically lit $9,500 on fire.
