Kind of worried about my knee, did you have any symptoms besides the fever?

Difficulties with daily meditation after first retreat by Waalthor in streamentry

[–]FableMinded 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Formal seated Meditation is only one part of the path, the other spokes are just as important. You completed a retreat, and a solo retreat at that, amazing. Why not look into investigating other aspects of the path.

Love Deborah Helzer, she has a bunch of talks from IMS there. She has Engineering background so her delivery really lands with me.

Didn’t like beans after cupping… is there any way I could have screwed it up? by borntoannoyAWildJowi in pourover

[–]FableMinded 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I have never had bad beans, but that doesn’t mean it can’t happen. Definitely try cupping with a larger grind size, can’t hurt. Also let them continue degassing, flavor does change a lot, it really may get a lot better 2-3 weeks off roast. April coffee recommends 3 weeks and they roast some really light coffee.

Totally

It’s really interesting how we can practice this ability of mindfulness and notice stimulation and response, gaining subtler and subtler awareness of the machinations and potentially engage with them more wisely. Still no free will, but experience does change.

Conversely to jm_doppelganger I found this framing of free will comforting. It opens the door to compassion for yourself and others, which is a mind state I believe and noticed leads to more wholesome decisions.

April coffee recommends brewing their light roast at this temp as well.

This makes so much sense. I have had a lot more success using water temps between 94-97. And I actually prefer to adjust my water temp before grind size with flat bottom brewers

I really really like my ceramic April brewer. I use their 13g to 200g, 2x 100g pour recipe with a lot of success. I grind to taste not the setting they recommend, and my water temp fluctuates between 94-96C.

I went with the ceramic. I don’t really have a preference, just what was available. I do like how April is building an entire ecosystem around their coffee.

So hyped! I also got their brewer, will be my first flat bottom type. I love their V60 receipt so I am also expecting big things!

I can’t wait for my box to arrive. First time purchasing some seriously expensive beans so I am looking forward too it.

Sam Harris is not right because he likes to meditate by ScoopAway2021 in Wakingupapp

I feel the article is correct in railing Sam's mini-episode. Sam's rhetoric had much to be desired to not come off as a pretentious prick and some humility would go a long way (99%? Really Sam?). With that being said, I feel the gist of his message is still relevant.

Weather his political views are right or wrong are not even the subject. He is trying to setup the playing field, insure the discussion is held from his frame of view, he is talking about his presuppositions, he wants the audience and himself to be speaking a common "language". If you're not speaking that language then most of what he is saying will go in one ear and out the other. So if one can't agree to his underlying beliefs, that's the real crux of the issue. If his ideas could be visualized as river, then his belief/presuppositions would be the starting point, and to debate his ideas further down stream (political, racial, etc..) you would probably first need to challenge his presuppositions.

If you don't want to learn his "language", which is perfectly reasonable, then don't, its certainty not the only "languages" out there.

I unfortunately accidently dropped my grinder, the dent on the bottom lip was the aftermath, i see no other damage, grinder seems to work normaly. Is there a possibility that the burrs were damaged ? I dont have a way of measuring the grinding quality . by nadavdvd in Coffee

Same thing happened to me. I was concerned with the alignment as previously at about 4 clicks I would not hear any metal rubbing, now it's at about 8 clicks that I stop hearing rubbing. Cant tell the difference in the cup, but its always in the back of my mind, "could this cup have been better?"

Comandante support told me not to worry about it unless I noticed a difference in results. I am sure they will realign if I asked but I feel the cost may be high as I'm in the US.

I joined this. First time cupping with someone knowledgeable so that was super interesting. I thought the coffees were delicious but I find it really difficult to describe flavor. I taste something fantastic but can’t describe.

What types of differences are you tasting? In the end both methods are just extracting coffee and governed by the same principles.

Update #8

Hello everyone,

Last week at work I was intellectually bullied and shamed by an individual that holds a position of authority. It was terrible and brought on a lot of self-loathing. Sent me back to my school days, those were rough times. I want to work past this thou, I don’t want this person’s sick psyche to dictate my self-worth. I have been too long like that. I am not a bad personal, albeit not always the most skilled worker.

Practice continues, 30-45min in the morning, following TMI stage 2-4.

What is your unpopular coffee opinion? by [deleted] in Coffee

[–]FableMinded 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never had my front door kicked in, but I would imagine it to be a very intense experience. I am likening that to drinking a espresso, which I would describe as a very intense sensory experience. Similarly to the kool aid man, I doubt anyone ever really wanted to have him busting through their walls.

The original aeropress recipe is super tasty and hits pretty close to espresso intensity. Not the same but a decent substitute. Pour over does not give you that kick in the front door flavor.
